THE NINTH BOOK OF SLAUGHTER

9 Slaughter 1:1-6

The unpardonable sin

Therefore I say to you, any sin and blasphemy shall be forgiven people, but blasphemy against The Deceiver shall not be forgiven. Whoever speaks a word against the gods, it shall be forgiven him; but whoever speaks against The Deceiver, it shall not be forgiven him, either in this age or in the age to come.

Cerberus' victory at Ascension had come at a cost. The Angel of Death and The Beast were awarded a loss, but neither defeat, nor cessation, had ultimately resulted from the outcome. Pain had been inflicted beyond the realms of competition. Neither a hooded vigilante nor a targeted King could ultimately disrupt the path of revolution.

The King laughs down from upon his throne, mocking his pursuers with songs and playing to his mindless flock in jest.

But war approaches.

Stipulations hang in the balance, the fate of the pursuer seemingly left to be decided by those who adorn the King. Yet, what are stipulations amidst war but yet another incarnation of an inevitable Death?

The fields are rich with color, lush, green, plentiful, their vastness spanning from near to beyond the horizons in every direction. A warm breeze whistles softly through the tall grass, carrying songbirds to unknown destinations, pollinating new life from that which already lives.

His boots thump heavily across the sodden soil, bending grasses at their stems, leaving a faint trail of existence in his wake. His strides are directed and purposeful. Across these luscious fields trods The Deceiver, in pursuit. He comes to rest in the shadow of a monstrous tree, scanning the ground beneath Him before finally kneeling in observation.

9 Slaughter 2: 1-2

Skarpaker stone

Earth shall be riven, and terror reigns over the desolate heavens. Neither sea nor cool waves, nor sand there were. Earth had not been, nor heaven above. But a yawning gap, and grass nowhere.

Upon the stone is depicted a great serpent, its body arching over the mast of a ship. Upon the mast is depicted a large cross, faded by time, yet still discernable by its shape within the roughness of the engraved stone. The Deceiver reads the engraving aloud:

Slaughter: Earth shall be riven, and the heavens above.

As He brushes the moist clay away from the stone's surface, its engravings come into full focus. The serpent's eyes reddened with fury, enveloping the vessel of righteousness.

Slaughter: Engraved by a father, for his son, whose life was taken during The Great War in the heavens. The lament, the torment, the loss of ambition to exist. And to what end? When the father's own demise was imminent, still yet, he mourned for his son.

The ominous clouds roll in suddenly and without warning. The pale blue sky quickly fades into a deep gray. Thunder rumbles from the horizon, advancing nearer. The warm breeze has turned to a violent gust, snapping the stems of the tall grasses as it howls with fury.

Slaughter: And from the etchings carved in stone, shall come forth the end of the world.

He heaves the thick stone above His head as lightning strikes the great tree, dismantling its naturally hung ornaments of life. Leaves litter the fields as the skies open and dump a heavy rain.

Slaughter: And what of the self-proclaimed God of War?

The rains turn to fire, illuminating the vast fields in a sea of crimson. Fire puddling as would water, scorching the fields from above and below.

Slaughter: In the war against the gods, sides shall not be chosen. All gods fall to their pursuers, for war is not made by those who rule by peaceful suppression, but rather by those who seek violent revolution.

The sea of flames broadens as the once fruitful soils are turned to dust and carried away by the swift winds of change.

Slaughter: While the God of War recants triumphs of former lives, The Serpent devours the present, making way for His own future.

As the rain begins to cease, the winds slow their onslaught. Serenity returns to the scene. Where once life was fruitful from the ground to the skies, a barren wastefulness has overcome the setting. He speaks softly, amidst the smoldering soils, the stone clenched tightly upon His chest.

Slaughter: Stand with the gods and be laid to waste or join in the revolution and reap the rewards of a world reborn.

The heavy stone shudders against His chest, the ancient etchings becoming one with His flesh. His shirt is torn away as the etchings have been burned upon His skin. Thorwald's Cross, Skarpaker Stone, the ancient truths of Ragnarok, have become one with the architect of their fruition.

Slaughter: The God of War, The King of the gods, one by one, they shall kneel in the shadow of their destructor.

The winds resume abruptly, sweeping the landscape with a piercing howl. As the dusty remains of the fruitful Earth are swiftly swept up and removed in a thick cloud, settling elsewhere, warning others of what is to come, nothingness is left in their wake. Desolation where abundance once flourished. Death where life had thrived.

A serpent slithers across the barren fields as the skies slam shut overhead and the sun peeks through the daunting clouds. The gods have received their warnings, their day of reckoning approaches. The tellings of ancient inscriptions shall come to fruition by His hand. The serpent shall lash out at his oppressor, until all that remains is nothing.

Sound the trumpets, thy Kingdom has come.
