Mass Effect 3: Earth

It surprises me that no one has started a thread about this yet!

Last night, I had some friends over and as we spoke about what games we were waiting to see in the future, the idea of Mass Effect 3 came up. I had not seen the trailer but one of my friends told me the general idea of it. If you haven't seen it, then you are in for a treat the likes of which hasn't been seen since the announcement trailer of Gears Of War 3...

Now, for me, that looks utterly incredible! Not only does it add some reality to the mix, but to bring it to the shores of the UK is unheard of in the world-wide games market. Normally, you would see them fighting on the lawn of the White House or something equally mundane and expected. When the camera panned out to show Big Ben though, I was as shocked as I was excited.

Mass Effect 2 was my game of the year last year, only just beating out Assassin's Creed Brotherhood. For that reason alone, I was looking forward to the next offering from Commander Shepard and the crew. However, having seen the announcement trailer, my excitement has reached a fever pitch.

But what do you think?

After seeing that I am so excited for this game. I loved both of the games and haven't been this drawn into a story and universe since KOTOR.

The fact that the focus will be on humanity and Earth is really interesting. You notice throughout the games how the other races don't fully like humans and don't trust them as much as they do the more "established" races (the Salarians, the Turians). We've even seen how little they care about the well being of humans and how slow they are to react to humanities problem (the collectors in ME2 were only seen as threats to humanity thus were pretty much ignored by the other races leaders). With a direct attack on humanities home planet it will be interesting to see how the relations with the other races plays out.

This is supposed to be the last one (hopefully just the end of Shephard's story and not the universe as a whole) so you know Bioware will pull out some big things with this game.

Yeah, I see where you are coming from.

To be honest, I was not impressed by Mass Effect 1. The story was good but the game play really lacked vigour in some places. However, Mass Effect 2 might be the best game I have ever played. It was one of those titles that just draws you in and there is nothing you can do to escape it's influence on you. There was days when I would come home from work, just to play that game and then go to sleep! It was incredible!

That being said, Mass Effect 3 needs to be in the same vein as Mass Effect 2, I think. It was so good that I am almost building up Mass Effect 3 in my mind to epic proportions. I am sure that Bioware wont let me down but I am trying to keep my expectations pretty low right now. Let's face it, the trailer didn't actually give us anything to work with at all. Yes, we have figured out that it will take place on Earth and as you correctly figured out, it will make for interesting gaming to see how the other races react to the troubles. I have a feeling that you will see a moment of unity between everyone though. I have a feeling that course of the game will be to secure the backing of other planets and races before taking the fight to the planet Earth.

If that is correct, then you are looking at a great game from start to finish. I would love to play a lot of the game on the surface of the Earth and come across some of the iconic places you see in the trailer but I have a feeling that wont be the case. I am almost sure that by the time you get to Earth, it will be unrecognisable. Still, it makes for a very interesting piece of game play for sure.

I loved Mass Effect 2 and it is my favorite game since KOTOR, I have never been this excited for a game since I was really young and that alone has made me realise that Mass Effect 3 could be the best ending of a succesful franchise of all time or could be nothing but a big let down which I'm begging that it isn't. I really like the idea of Earth being in the game, espiecally seeing as I almost forgot Earth was in Mass Effect because of the universe's size.

I too slightly disliked the first game but in the end I completed it (almost reluctantly) and bought Mass Effect 2 without thought because I enjoyed the story of Mass Effect and that alone made me purchase Mass Effect 2. If Mass Effect 3 is any better than the second one then I'll be happy. Looking forward to the finale.

When i saw ME3's trailer i was blown away and excited, but i do hope we see interactions from other races besidest he humans, all the other race's help make the game and hopefully you get to travel to other planets again for missions and assignments and all that because that will make the 3rd installment good as well, but with the major focus being Earth. I heard the gameplay will feature more weapons and things like that and more customization and RPG elements, so im looking forward to more news on the game.

I have yet to experience any of the Mass Effects game (that will eventually change now that Mass Effect 2 has been released on the Playstation 3), but even I was VERY excited that Mass Effect 3 would be taking place on Earth when I watched the trailer for Mass Effect 3 revealed at the VGA's.

That just shows how impressive the Mass Effect series has become after only two games. If a person such as myself with almost no knowledge on the game's story, can mark out at a simple announcement trailer with Commander Sheppard fighting the war on Earth.

Anyone considered how much their choices are going to effect the mass effect 3 playthrough?! it's insane really. Glad I chose earthborn:D god i can't wait for this game!
