I think though the only reason he is on the hunt is because there really aren't are Main eventers right now on Smackdown. They kind of got screwed when Edge retired and lost Del Rio.

You don't get it. Heels are supposed to be stoic, unhappy and "methodical". They aren't supposed to show emotion.

Well I would respectfully disagree. Heels and faces have always shown emotion of one sort or another.
Kevin Sullivan. The original 'devil/demonic' force long before Undertaker often showed great pleasure in torturing his opponents.
NWO took great pleasure in smiling as they attacked WCW wrestlers.
Eric Bischoff comes out to the ring smiling all the time as he drops the bad news on the 'good guys.'
HHH used to smile as he'd take the sledge to his opponents.
Those are just a few examples that come to mind.
