Malaysia Airlines Flight 370

Kermit

the Frog
Anybody else following this story? It is bizarre.

For anyone that doesn't know, a 239 passenger flight from Malaysia to Beijing completely vanished. I believe 3 Americans were on it among other people of different nationalities, but it largely consisted of Chinese people. It is Day 5 of the search with absolutely no sign of the plane's whereabouts or wreckage to be found. They have exhausted the search of looking where the plane should have been flying and are starting to look outside the perimeters of its designated path. Also, there were two passengers on the plane with stolen passports, but Interpol is claiming terrorism is not likely involved.

It is all very odd. Any theories?

I also heard that communication just ended out of nowhere too. Like usually if they were crashing or if it was a terrorist attack, they have staff on board with a secret line to talk to air control, but they didn't hear anything.

It is a very odd story, and I've waiting to see if they've solved it yet. It almost sounds like a movie.

Don't they have trackers in the plane for that very reason though? Why can't they locate it via the installed tracker?

Also not to sound prejudiced or judgmental, but it's been discovered that the two men with stolen passports were Iranian. 18 years old and 29 years old, although they're still saying that it they don't believe it was a terrorist attack so who knows. And why would they attack a Malaysia plane anyway?

Are we sure they didn't take Wonder Woman's invisible plane? Maybe we should be looking for a load of flying people who appear to be sitting.

Transponders can be turned off.

There is a possibility that it was hijacked. The fact that so many countries with all the modern technology have been unable to trace its location is just appalling.
Its also possible that they figured out its location and its been hijacked and taken into some other country by terrorists (probably those two guys with stolen visas), and the governments have decided not to tell the people about it, for fear of widespread panic, and also if the people don't know, then they won't have to succumb to any demand the terrorists might make. An interviewed family member during the day of the incident said that the passenger's phone was ringing when he/she called but no one picked it up. If the plane had fallen into the ocean, the phone wouldn't have rung. That further adds to the conspiracy theory.

The reason they had fake passports is because they were Iranian defectors and were seeking asylum.

The terrorism myth surrounding this story is a perfect illustration of how the mainstream media will choose the sexy story over the more informed one every time. There is no evidence other than a few weak straws that suggest this tragedy was an act of terrorism, but the media has chosen to grasp at them knowing full well it will bring in more viewers while sacrificing journalistic integrity.

Semi in their defense, I have read a couple stories about them seeking asylum, and the comments (I know, I know) nothing but people saying there's no way Iranians with fake passports could be anything but terrorists. I know journalists have the duty to inform the people, but there's only so much they can do when the people refuse to accept the facts.

I've read somewhere that stolen passports used for seeking Asylum are not too uncommon. While nothing is being "officially" ruled out it seems more likely that it was more of a case being on the wrong plane at the wrong time.

The more I read about the story, the more I think that either Malaysia didn't have their crap together in terms of tracking flights or they are covering something up (possibly an accidental shoot down). That or one of the pilots going haywire seem like the two most likely scenarios.

I imagine the plane exploded around the same time as they lost contact, and the debris simply hasn't shown up yet because of reasons related to how big the sea is.

The plane has a hundred ways to signal distress, everyone on board had a mobile phone, and a bunch of them were getting signal. If anything interesting happened over longer than two minutes, someone would have got a message out.

Well... unless we're talking some kind of thermonuclear devise, the debris would will be pretty sizable just because of the shape of a plane. I don't know how much of it will float though, and if the black box (which does emit a wide ranging underwater signal) is not functioning for some reason then is can still be incredibly hard to locate on account of the sea being really fuckin' big. It'd be like flying over England with helicopters trying to find a particular car, which turns out to be locked in someone's garage.

I'm amazed that in 2014 we have a situation like this.

I watch the news every morning, I try to get different perspectives on news stories because if you only watch what won't piss you off eventually then you're better off just reading the news paper.

The one thing they can ALL finally agree on is, this is strange.

Fox News went through their usual spiel about terrorism and Iranians with stolen passports, but eventually they had to concede through dumbfounded curiosity that terrorists don't usually keep quiet if they're hatching a scheme or if they've succeeded in one. While this might not rule out the possibility, one has to ask what exactly a terrorist would try to gain out of making a plane full of Chinese citizens vanish.

MSNBC is interviewing everyone with experience as a pilot or an air traffic controller in an effort to look like they care more than everybody else. At a certain point even their anchors look frustrated that by the end of all the jibber jabber, the conclusion is "anyone else's guess is as good as mine".

I saw another report that they supposedly found a piece of wreckage, only to have it turn out that it was a piece of a freighter. I literally just checked cnn.com and foxnews.com and they're both taking a back seat to bashing on each other's chosen political enemies to wonder "What in the fuck happened?".

I hope something good comes of all this. It's unlikely that anyone survived, but let's all hope that we find a way to prevent this from ever happening again.

I saw something to this effect somewhere on facebook:
"Obama should grow some balls. Reagan would've nuked Malaysia long ago. George W Bush didn't take shit either, but he would've bombed Australia."

The new information is a bit mysterious. They believe the plane flew for 4-5 hours after they lost contact and the two communication systems were turned off 14 minutes apart. Which, if true, would highly suggest sabotage.

Maybe I'm just being a conspiracy theorist.

Surely that just means that the triangle's power is spreading? Dam illuminati.

As horrible as it may sounds, part of me hopes we never know what happened. There are too many of those "You thought this? Actually that is completely wrong and how could you ever believe that when it is so straight-forward!?" kind of posts and lists doing the rounds these days.

It's amazing to believe that another mystery like this could happen this late in time. It's similar to Amelia Earhart or the Roanoke Colony.

They're finally admitting now that the only explanation is that it was a "deliberate action" and the essentially the plane was hijacked. Though I still don't understand why, or how. Even if it was hijacked, they had to of gotten the plane down fast. How could if have gotten that off course, and yet nobody on the plane with all the working cellphones, and all the staff with secret communication lines to the airport was able to get a word out. They say the plane had to have gone down within two minutes, but also that the plane was so off it's original course.

I wouldn't be surprised if the plane is off on some random island somewhere, and all the survivors are fighting with John Locke.
