Make a compilation album on a specific theme

In case you do not know what I mean, let me explain.

I was looking at the music on my ipod the other day, and realised just how many songs I have on there that have mentions of death in the title, and others where colours are mentioned.

So, bored as I was I thought I would put together a compilation CD with only tracks featuring "Death" in the title. Here it is:

This isn't from an iPod or anything as I really haven't caught up to your space age technology yet, this is all from memory. Certainly there a few shit songs on this playlist but for the most part, it's pretty decent. The Too Short song was one of the dirtiest songs I was ever allowed to listen to as a kid. My parents didn't like me listening to that kind of shit, but my uncle was awesome.

Never Gonna Give you up - Yes, I would put the rick roll song in a Compilation CD about Love. Why? Because A) that's what the song is about and B) the entire collection of people who get this song get a major rick roll!

Lips of an Angel - Why did I pick the country version? Well, don't get me wrong I love the original version by Hinder, but I just think that the slower pace of this version would suit better.

Entire CD - Every genre of music (that I like) has that one soft song that is just an epic love song, and they don't all have to be sappy love songs. For example, "He loves you not" is an up beat pop song that basically gives a girl (or a guy if you switch out the lyrics or work the gay way) a clear message that they love each other and the home wrecker won't get between them. Another example, "Never Gonna Give you Up" will give you a powerful reassurance.

Yes, I would definitely buy this CD. There are other love songs that you could add in, but I think these 14 are a nice balance.

As you can see I have decided to name my playlist Baboon Ass Red, did it strictly for the lulz.

Onto the music, I could have easily made a part two to this cd, I had no idea I had so many song titles with the word red, who knew. Most of this music falls into one experimental electronic category or the other; but I did manage to squeeze a recognizable faces in there. I opened it up with the Bob Marley version of Red Red Whine, it was a tough call, cause I do have a soft spot for some UB40. We've got a little dubstep with An-Ten-Nae and Ikonika some old school Dub brought to by the masters Scientist and Prince Jammy. Then have a nice selection of Trip Hop artists in Prefuse 73, Dirty Art Club, and Blockhead.

I also managed to squeeze all these tracks in under the 80 minute mark, coming in at an hour and 17 minutes. It's quite the unique/diverse list of music, and I'm really happy with how this sucker turned out. I'll probably do another random color for shits and giggles later on.

I'm really starting to like these color lists, I ended up listening to my red list almost three times through yesterday; and as I was putting this one together I couldn't help but think that this list was turning out better than the one that I had put together yesterday.

This CD comes in just over the 70 min mark and has a little taste of everything. We've got out underground rap covered on both coasts, with Mac Dre representing the west, and Antipop covering the east. A trio of different rock artists in Zeppelin, Ratatat, and Explosions in the Sky and all kinds of electronic goodies sprinkled throughout.

I like this compilation because it's fairly well balanced. It has songs that are decades old, such as Money Can't Buy Me Love and Can't Help Falling In Love, which are both early 60's if i'm not mistaken. Then there are songs by Train and Guetta from within the past couple of years. I think there is also a nice balance of slow, heart-wrenching songs (Elton and Elvis) and high tempo, high energy songs (Tiesto and Sinclar), which means the compilation carries a love theme without being too emotional or soppy. The main reason I like this album though is because these are 16 songs that I really like, and I could listen to this album again and again and again.

This was quite fun actually. I may be back with another eventually.

I'd be satisfied with this compilation and it's a very well rounded album with some hard rock, country, pop and some weird pieces (Avenged Sevenfold).
