Let us discuss entrance themes.

Entrance themes are my favorite part of wrestling. They also happen to be in my estimation one of the most criminally overlooked aspects of wrestling. A great entrance theme can really make a character, whereas a shitty entrance theme can break one. Seriously, imagine Stone Cold without the glass shattering or The Rock entering to Michelle McCool's theme and tell me that entrance music doesn't make a character.

So let's talk about themes in WZCW. What made you pick your entrance theme? Who has the best theme right now and why? Who has the worst and why? Who should change their theme?

I picked Tank! for several reasons, primarily because it fits Saxton perfectly. It makes a great theme for the same reason it made for a great opening theme to one of my favorite shows, Cowboy Bebop - It's high energy with a fantastic hook. The sound just suits Saxton to a T as well. I really can't think of a better theme for him, though I do have an idea for if he turns heel and if he wins a major singles championship.

As for best theme? Barbosa. Both of them. Change (In The House of Flies) is an incredible track, and perfectly sinister. Kylie Minogue is about as far away from that as possible. Their interchangeability works wonders with the character. Really though, I can't put over "Change" enough. Such a good song, and SUCH a good theme.

Worst is tougher to pick. There are quite a few guys who really need a theme change in my eyes, but one that immediately springs to mind is Grand Mystique. He's already said that he picked the theme because it was one of his favorite songs - which is something you REALLY don't want to do, unless the song just happens to work really well. Headstrong's a fine song and all but holy hell it's so generic, and for an interesting character with an interesting gimmick it's about as far away from that as you want to go.

Now, when I think "supervillain" and "destiny", I don't think mainstream early 2000s rock. I think of something grander, more sweeping. Maybe some orchestral, or some power metal, or something menacing. Hell, maybe even some rap with a choir or a hip-hop beat a la Ty. I really like the new character but the theme really needs a fixup.

Actual suggestions, though, is where the hard part comes in. Something like this I think sounds pretty cool and grand. And besides, no one remembers Lars Reidar, amirite?:

If you don't mind giving Dagger a boner every time you compete and don't mind going with an arrangement of an already well-known villain song, this is one damn incredible track:

And this is cheating since it's already the theme of one of my favorite heels in another fed I'm in, but it's legitimately one of the best entrance themes I've ever heard. It just works so well.

I'm not trying to single you out - I'll probably post a few more suggestions for many different people as this thread (hopefully) goes on. Mystique was just the first to immediately come to mind and that's good because of his solid and workable gimmick making it easy to make suggestions about.

So, yeah, everyone. Let's discuss themes. Best, worst, whose you'd change, and why you picked yours.

I picked mine because Demon Hunter is one of my favorite bands ever. The song Someone to Hate relates to Derek because he is (was now) such an angry guy. There's probably a better song that relates to him now because of his new gimmick, but I still like that song.

What made you pick your entrance theme?

Well, I really never got a chance to use my first one, Firefly by Breaking Benjamin. I remember using it on Smackdown vs. Raw 2005 for my CAW and it just seemed to fit what I wanted to do with Sam Masters. However, I joined the Apostles and then used the Apostles theme about 95% of the time. So, when I turned Chris into heel, I made major changes to my character. One of which was my theme, which is now This Fire Burns by Killswitch Engage. I mainly chose it because I like the opening, which is one of the most important things about a theme song, I think. What do you think my song in conjunction with my character, Doc?

Who has the best theme right now and why?

If this was "who has the best theme ever?" I would pick Ty Burna hands down. His theme just fit with his character so well. It wasn't too long or too short. I always listened to it whenever he came out. Phoenix did an awesome job on his titantron as well.

For as of right now, I would have to vote Mister Alhazred. Wizard and Bosses by The Minibosses is an awesome tune that fits his character well. Here are a few of my other favorites:

New Church - Collective Soul by Heavy
Ricky Runn - Whatever the song is on his titantron
The Angel - Mistico's theme
Showtime - Ladies & Gentlemen by Saliva

Who has the worst and why?

I am not digging Sam Smith's theme. I just can't see him walking down to the ring to that tempo of music. Maybe it is just because I have a different idea of his character.

Who should change their theme?

Sam Smith?

------------

I don't know. Really, I think the most important thing in WZCW is to pick a song that you can incorporate into your entrance description. I will be honest, I don't always click every youtube video when I am reading through the matches. I doubt that many people do. I'll read the entrance description and if it connects with the video then I might turn it on to hear.

My theme was chosen purely because I like the song and it literally has nothing to do with my character. It's pretty awful, haha. I've been thinking about changing it (and made the request earlier) for quite some time.

I like your new one. I should also note that I am not a big rap fan and that came into play when I suggested you. :)

I picked mine because it's perfect. To me the best entrance themes have a bit at the beginning before the main music starts to get the crowd hyped up. Then when the main theme kicks in you can visualise the entire entrance.

What made you pick your entrance theme?

I'll go through the thought processes for all of the ones I've used.

Wunderbar needed a theme that screamed I AM GERMAN! You don't get much more German than the national anthem. I did look for other German songs, but none that I looked at fitted better than Deutschland Uber Alles. I also specified no crowd interaction (though this was occasionally overlooked) with his entrance because he's specifically not an entertainer.

Stark's gimmick was that of someone who is better than you because he's smart. For that reason he needed music that was as far away from what the average person listens to. Could you imagine someone listening to Beethoven while giving you a lecture about how all pop music is unoriginal and terrible in comparison to the greats? That's what I tried to channel with Stark's entrance theme. Dvorak's New World Symphony is an awesome piece of classical music and was used by Damien Sandow in FCW thile he was working the same gimmick. There was a time while I was really getting ready to be on my way out when I considered making his theme King of my World by Saliva, or King Without a Crown by Jenium* (which tied into an idea I was going to pitch creative at the time) but for obvious reasons that never happened.

Little to no thought went into MOM's theme. However, it consisted of a cult leader and a guy who thinks being intelligent makes you better than everyone else. Cult of Personality fitted like a glove.

Connor's theme was chosen for one reason. I needed a song which allowed for him to get the crowd to get on their feet and make some noise. You don't get much better for that than the chorus of Chelsea Dagger. Just ask these guys:

*I'd really like to use a song by a band called Jenium, because it's made up of a bunch of my old schoolmates. None of their songs have really fit my characters though.

Who has the best/worst theme right now and why?

I haven't listened to most of them, so I can't give an accurate answer.

Who should change their theme

Anyone who picked a song just because they like it. If you like it and the content of the song fits your character then that's great. If it doesn't, get your arse on youtube and find one that does.

What do you think my song in conjunction with my character, Doc?

I think the lyrics worked for the White Knight character well enough. There's only one major, major problem with it, and that's that I cannot hear it and not think "CM Punk". It's the same problem I had with Stephen Kurtesy and Angel using Sin Cara's theme. There are these preconceived ideas I get and it just throws me off something awful.

Right now, I'm not entirely sure what your character is, completely. If you could give me a quick rundown of who/where you're going with him I could give it a think. I mean, I'm not saying it's a bad theme, since it's obviously not, just that I can't not think Punk.

New Church - Collective Soul by Heavy
Funny, I'd put that one lower on my list. I mean, it's an absolutely fantastic song and theme, with a brilliant hook and lyrics, but I'm not totally sure the sound fits the idea of a Southern preacher type. But hey, minor complaints, it's a great song.

The Angel - Mistico's theme
Agreed. Sin Cara's theme just wasn't working, and this is lesser known and fits the gimmick to a T. Not to blow my own horn, I just love the song. Haha.

Showtime - Ladies & Gentlemen by Saliva
Also agreed. It may be used everywhere as a song but Showtime makes it work perfectly, especially when he's really playing up the nickname. Excellent.

.

They swear in their RPs, I doubt they give a fuck about what fits a southern preacher.

I actually almost used This Fire for Phoenix. It would have been perfect, but Punk was still using it and we were much stricter about that at the time.

It's a bit of a stretch, but I think of it as Westhoff carrying his entire church every time he comes to the ring. He isn't wrestling for himself, but for the betterment of Bridge to Salvation Church. It's probably a little too face-y, but that's how I thought it up.

My original theme was fucking ******ed. I don't even like metal music. I was wanting to find a video game theme song that had been remixed with a hip hop beat and in my eagerness to post my app I went with the first remixed version of the Mario theme song I found.

I like what I have now. It isn't perfect, but it gets the job done.

I think my theme fits Krypto but I honestly don't know for sure, originally I picked the song Reptile by Skrillex because it didn't have lyrics and it was just mindless beats, at the time I thought alien dubstep would fit the character. Then I changed it to a remix of that with the song jump around which I just personally liked more.

Can't say I have one that I hate because if I don't like it I just don't hit the play button. Though I have to say the old RRR theme is a song I kept replaying whenever I read one of their matches.

I have a theme song I want to use much later down when road when I take Stormrage in a different direction. It isn't really a traditional wrestling theme song. That won't be for a while though.

I'll admit this, I dislike Strikeforce's old theme song, much to J-popish for James Howard. Shotaro and I spent like three days just PMing lists of songs back and forth trying to decide on a song and I was running out of ideas and just went with it. Our current song is much better, even if the video is weird.

I understand the thought process and again the lyrics are great, I just would think a Southern preacher would use some gospel music or something. For an example, something like Reverend D-Von's theme.

Or heck, even something by one of those religious rock bands like DC Talk.

Then again, I really don't mind you using the theme you are because I really love that song.

I love this theme. That intro really reminds me of Mars Attacks or a pulpy sci-fi movie, before in transitions into the dubstep which is futuristic and perfect for the alien character. Damn good theme.

The fact that it is an amazing song is a big part of why I chose it. To be totally honest, having a gospely kind of theme is a really good idea that never crossed my mind. Maybe sometime in the future I'll switch it up...

Celeste's first theme was "Nemesis" by Arch Enemy. I used that theme for most of my tenure in 2007.

When I returned in 2009 I changed her theme to "10's" by Pantera. I chose that music because I was on a DBZ high at the time, and I wanted to model Celeste's new personality after Broly's... basically this uncaring, destructive, maniacal, sociopath... and 10's was his LSSJ transformation theme in the movie.

For 2012 I wanted to make Celeste into a softer character so I went with "Towa no Kizuna" by Daisy x Dasiy... just some upbeat J-Pop that I think helped personify that transition I was trying to make. My current theme is either "Puritania" by Dimmu Borgir or "Destroy What Destroy's You" by Kreator depending on whomever writes my matches. Following Kingdom Come I wanted to take Celeste in a more intense direction than she is now...not like she was in 2009, but halfway... but neither of those theme's fit her current character.

After Apocalypse I'll probably switch to something more flexible and neutral that can be used as she evolves. I have some idea's.

---------------------

I'm not too familiar with some of the newer guys [meaning anyone post 2009] theme's but I did like the first theme for James Howard and I like Isabel Stone's theme.

I know there are some theme's that I dislike but I can't put names with faces at the moment.

You repped me when I changed my theme song, yet I can't even get a mention here? You sir are no longer my friend.

I remember. I wrote a match featuring Strikeforce and your song was catchy enough that I ended up listening to it while I wrote. You guys have a team Strikeforce theme so I forgot about it.

Wow, I did not realize how badly I butchered that question, Doc.

Anyways, I get what you are saying. It is hard to separate that song from CM Punk, especially since we are all wrestling fans. To answer your question as to who Chris really is right now: Think of the terms heroic, knightly, and chivalry when thinking up a possible theme for him.

I would love to find a really awesome medieval sounding song that fits him.

Both Ensiferum and Moonsorrow are two good folk, medieval type bands.

Not exactly sure what type of sound you're trying to go for, just throwing out some ideas.

Thanks for that Doc. And to return the favour, your use of Tank! is easily the most appropriate theme in the entire fed. It just screams blaxploitation and Action Saxton. Helps that it is an excellent song too.

I also loved Ennio Morricone's Ectasy of Gold as an epic entrance theme, although I was never all that sure of how well it worked with Kravinoff.

"Change (In the House of Flies)" has been part of my music playlist for years and it just so happened to be playing when I was writing one of the RPs round about the time Barbosa was changing away from multiple personalities and I thought it would be perfect.

As for Kylie, well, I am not sure how many of you remember but it was the WZCW Universe chose it for Barbosa during a podcast and poll...

I am not going to single anyone out as being particularly poor but I do think that there is a lot of mindless rock used that really does nothing for any character.

The New Church could maybe rock the Duelling Banjos.

So we do know that the song it called Heavy and it is preformed by the band Collective Soul, right? It's also my #1 song ever.

I really dig Rush's theme for the character. I wasn't to go with something old school rather than returning to Disturbed which never really fit the feel I was trying to accomplish with Rush. Having The Memory Remains by Metallica as the song, fits well opposed to a newer song of the same genre.

Even if you hate the song and would never listen to it, if it suits what you're trying to accomplish with your character, you're better off biting the bullett and take advantage of it.

My favorite theme for my character was when I used the instrumental version of Rammstein's "Waidmanns Heil". It fit Baez' crazy chaotic heel gimmick back then. But I inability to be consistent with him has led to lots of theme and character changes. Right now he has Metallica's version of "Die Die My Darling". I like the song. And I have it because my character is pretty much a Cibernetico rip-off in english at this point. But I do plan to change the theme to something more fitting to the "crazy fighting otaku" thing soon enough. Once I find something perfect.

As for others I do love Rush's theme. Very fitting for his current character. Powerful theme for a powerful guy and it even fits the current gimmick due to the song talking about bad memories and anger.
