Least-Convincing Finishing Moves in WWE

Dark Match Jobber
this is of a report of BleacherReport , what are your thoughts on this and do you think all 5 are correct

#5: "619," Rey Mysterio
Although the "619" draws cheers from the crowd, it takes a painfully long time to develop.

Rey's opponents remain draped across the middle rope for an eternity whole he bounces around the ring and plays to the fans.

While it can't feel all that great to have Rey's knees (and brace) crash into your face, I doubt it would be enough to really finish off anyone

4: "Sharpshooter," Natalya
I know she's a Diva, but this is the most unconvincing version of the sharpshooter ever.

I know she does it as a way to show respect to her Uncle Bret, but it's more of a disgrace than anything. It doesn't even look painful

3: "450 Splash," Justin Gabriel
am not disputing Gabriel's athleticism, but the "450 Splash" still makes the list.

Why? Because he only attempts this move after one of Nexus' or the CORRE's ring raids, and he hardly ever pulls it off in an actual match.

2 Tadpole Splash," Hornswoggle
I actually like this one, but it's not likely that a full grown man wouldn't be able to toll a shoulder after Hornie plops on them from the top rope.

1: "The Cobra," Santino Marella
A goofy finisher to go along with that awful gimmick that the WWE creative straddled him with.

Seriously, though...THE COBRA!?!?

1,2 and 5 are fine by me.

But the sharpshooter? Did you not see when it was hooked on melina the other day? I shat myself for a minute thinking natalya had fallen back by accident and broke melina in half, after all natalya is a hefty girl. Disagree with it being unconvincing at any rate.

And the 450 splash. The fact it has been most commonly administered at the end of a nexus beatdown means nothing. If anything it shows they are saving the best for last no? It still LOOKS devastating and that's all that matters.

If I was going to add my # 3 + 4 it would firstly be starship pain, looks great when he connects, whether he connects is really hit and miss. Also the Five Knuckle shuffle, would it kill Cena to make some sort of contact. I know he's probably worries he'll botch it and break the guys nose, but until he stops pounding the ground 4 inches above his opponents head it's on the list.

Stupid list.

1) I can understand thee 619 being unconvincing on larger opponents but it's still a fully-grown man using his momentum to kick someone in the face with both his legs/feet.

2) I can understand the case if Natalya applies it to a guy, but she doesn't. And it was brilliant on Melina on Raw.

3) The reasoning for this is ridiculous. It's unconvincing because he rarely uses it in a match? That's because he is rarely in a match. Great finisher.

4) What else are you going to give to a dwarf? Works for what it is: a gimmick move for a gimmick wrestler.

5) The Cobra is a move which is very over with the crowd and therefore fine by me. He's jabbing them in the throat which, followed by a roll-up, is kind of convincing. Obviously less convincing if they are down and out.

Basically, a piss poor list written by someone who clearly doesn't know much about wrestling.

He doesn't use it to finish people, so it doesn't matter. Plus kicking a man in the face is pretty impactful. 619 doesn't belong within miles of this list, even if you don't like the move.

You're shitting me, right? It's actually one of the better sharpshooters done in WWE outside of Bret.

And least convincing ever????!?!?!?!?! HAVE YOU SEEN THE FUCKING ROCKS CRAPSHOOTER?!

again, bullshit. He uses it every time he wins a match clean. He used it on NXT as a finisher, and every time he does it, the guy never gets up. And the combination of the top rope leap with the mid-air somersault makes it actually one of the MOST convincing finishers in all of WWE.

2 Tadpole Splash," Hornswoggle
I actually like this one, but it's not likely that a full grown man wouldn't be able to toll a shoulder after Hornie plops on them from the top rope.
EASILY the most impactful move the Midget wrestler could do, jumping off the top rope. Yes, using it on full-size men doesn't look convincing, but it's the best he can do, and to put it on the list is unfair to him.

1: "The Cobra," Santino Marella
A goofy finisher to go along with that awful gimmick that the WWE creative straddled him with.

Seriously, though...THE COBRA!?!?
Yeah, it's pretty bland, and the general idea of it is not convincing at all. This is the only one I can believe.

Honestly, I can't really put a list of FINISHERS that I find unconvincing. There are some signiture moves that are rather weak, but they aren't used to finish matches, so they don't fall under the FINISHER category.

Oh, did you write it? If that's the case, I apoligise for what I said. I was under the impression you found it somewhere else and therefore I could be a bit more vehement. Sorry.

One move is head and above all others... the Attitude Adjustment / FU. About as impactful as Flair getting tossed of the top turnbuckle(TM), and it should be just as likely to garner a victory.

The Attitude Adjustment - A very weak move, less prominent superstars (like Kama Mustafa) have used this move more devastatingly and not garnered the same results.

The Cobra - Just pointless and lame. At least give him a real finisher and use this as a trademark.

Kahli Head Chop - I don't care how big he is, this move is utter nonsense. The Punjabi Plunge was a much better finisher. Big Show at least punches the guy, Kahli would be better served using a vicious boot to the face than a chop.

Scissor Kick - Alicia Fox needs a new finisher. She has long legs and she does the move well. But I'll never buy this move used by anyone other than Bull Buchanan. He had the best scissor kick, looked vicious.

The Clothesline - The only things I don't like about Skip Sheffield are his first name and his clothesline finisher. He makes it look great, but it reminds of Lex Luger with his bionic forearm/elbow. Surely when he returns they MUST change this.

Sit-out Spinebuster - As if I need another reason to hate David Otunga. This move is lame to begin with, but with his lack of execution - it's 10x worse. I'd much rather see him use the Lo-Down/Sky High as his finisher.

Responses:

5. Rey, Rey's opponent can clutch out of the ropes & clothesline him while he does his petty jeers to the fans.

4. The part that makes Natalya's sharpshooter "Overrated" to some people are the fact when her opponents over sell it in under 5 secs.

3. Justin Garbriel's 450 splash. After he waste a sh*tload of time waiting to hit it he's opponent can get up & throw him over

2. UGH! A digrace to EG's frog spalash. It's enough to make you tickle then hornswiggle land on you

1. ?????????

Anyhoo Cena Five-Knuckle Shuffle is definitely fake. He's lucky to hit a move from down he ground or else it'll be proven to be a fraud.

Skull-Crushing Finale: Good thing Miz cheats to win most of the time, because this is a shit finisher. Doesn't look painful, and takes too long to set up.

Otunga's Spinebuster: This just screams terrible. He's about 4 feet tall, so he gets absolutely no lift on this move, and that alone makes it look not all that painful. What a shit wrestler this guy is.

Starship Pain: This move is totally mediocre. There is nothing special or exciting about it, and it just doesn't scream "Big-Time" finisher. If he did something from all the way on the top rope, it would be different. This is something a mid-carder uses.

Dream Street: DiBiase needs something new. I would rather he just straight up use the Million Dollar Dream instead of turning it into a slam. It's cheap, and I've never been a fan of it.

Edge's Spear: For the love of God, this looks weak, and the more out of shape Edge becomes, the worse it looks. He just doesn't have the body-type to make a spear look really painful. Goldberg had explosion and size, and Batista...well, he had the size. Edge has none of these attributes, and if weren't so late in the game for him, I would say he needs to work on something new...but he won't.

Trouble in Paradise: I like finishers that involve a kick, but Kofi's doesn't look powerful enough, almost like he isn't putting enough behind it. It could work, if Kofi were to make it work. But like most things Kingston does, it's totally mediocre.

Heath Slater's...whatever it is: I think his finisher is known as the leaping-reverse STO, but I'm not totally sure. At any rate, it's garbage. It just might be the worst finisher in the WWE, and that's not surprising coming from one of the least entertaining, most underwhelming performers they have.

The 6-1-9: It's kind of hard to bag on this, with Rey being as small as he is, but it just doesn't look painful. It is always set up in the least realistic way possible, and I just hate it. I know he's limited, but....well, no buts. He still has no business in there with heavyweights.

...and yes, I know The Cobra is totally unbelievable. However, it's a joke. It's a joke we are SUPPOSED to be in on, people! Leave it alone.

Agreed, the AA is just the same as being tossed off the 'buckle. FFS make Cena use a Death Valley Driver as the Attitude Adjustment V 2.0 or something, the fireman carry slam is awful

God damn. What a shock, people bitching about the Attitude Adjustment. Nothing new, and unfortunately, still just as stupid as all before.

The Attitude Adjustment is a perfectly fine finishing move, in fact it's one of the better ones in WWE. Here are reasons

1. Ability to do it to anyone. This is undeniable. He's done it to Big Show countless times. Hell, he even had Show AND Edge set up for it at the same time at one point (Mania 25). For most people they couldn't do it to everyone. Cena's ridiculously strong, so he can do it to anyone.

2. Suddenness. Again, undeniable. The Attitude Adjustment takes all of 2 seconds (tops) to complete. There are many times where out of nowhere he'll hit the move when he's being beaten up, just to slow down his opponent and get back into the fight.

3. Impact. Yes, the AA is impactful. John Cena takes a man on his shoulders (roughly 6 feet in the air). Then, he throws the guy off his shoulders, flipping them (head first) onto their back, while usually jumping in the air a bit. The opponent will generally get about 7 feet in the air (at least), while being thrown to the ground. All of this means that generally speaking, this move will have the same impact on the back as a powerbomb.

And to the people comparing it to being thrown off the top, you're not even close. When peolpe get tossed off the top turnbuckle, the tosser doesn't get as much strength/force on the throw (for the most part) because they will have their arms outstretched in order to grab the tossee. Also, they don't use any downward force on the throw, which lessens the impact considerably. Cena uses some downward force (especially against non-Super Heavyweights), again adding more impact to the maneuver.

And to the people comparing it to the Death Valley Driver, that's all well and good, IF John Cena was actually trying to do a Death Valley Driver. He isn't. He's doing a Standing Fireman's Carry Powerslam. I personally wish he DID a Death Valley Driver, since it has long been one of my favorite wrestling moves, but the whole dropping on the head thing would likely be frowned upon, since it's relatively unsafe.

Wade Barretts Wasteland. It's a freakin' Scoop Slam. Look it up. Everybody and their mother does it in Mexico and it just leads to missed splashes off the top rope. Not to mention his Bossman Slam looks way more painful.

If everybody is mentioning the AA, why is the Angle slam not mentioned? Seems it has about the same problem that people are having w/the AA, IMO.

And yeah, the Wasteland doesn't seem all that devastating. However, I think we're forgetting Barrett's, what, 6'7" and he's swinging you down to the ground by an arm and a leg? I think the throwing portion of that move is what's supposed to be the part that adds believability. You swing somebody down to the ground (which adds a lot of force), especially from that height, I guarantee there'll be a nasty bump/bruise on the back of your head. And you'll more than likely at least see stars, if not black out for a couple seconds.

Yeah. Name a match where Kurt just does one Angle Slam.

Big Show's 7 feet. Scoop Slams from him don't win a match. Wasteland is still crap.

I've seen Kurt do one Angle slam. And we're not discussing overall athletic prowess or how much a person likes Angle more than Cena. It's the same philosophy. Guy's picked up on his shoulders and just dropped to the mat. Similar to an AA.

And Wasteland isn't just a normal scoop slam if we're getting technical.

Go get jabbed in the throat, and then hit with a 450 splash, tell me what hurts more

If anything, due to the lack of thrust, the Cobra should be used as a move to weaken someone; less oxygen getting to the body puts less strength behind the muscles, yadda

God damn. What a shock, people bitching about the Attitude Adjustment. Nothing new, and unfortunately, still just as stupid as all before.

This is an assessment of the weakest finishing moves in the WWe - Cena is a WWe entertainer, correct?

The Attitude Adjustment is a perfectly fine finishing move, in fact it's one of the better ones in WWE. Here are reasons

1. Ability to do it to anyone. This is undeniable. He's done it to Big Show countless times. Hell, he even had Show AND Edge set up for it at the same time at one point (Mania 25). For most people they couldn't do it to everyone. Cena's ridiculously strong, so he can do it to anyone.

Very true, no argument.

2. Suddenness. Again, undeniable. The Attitude Adjustment takes all of 2 seconds (tops) to complete. There are many times where out of nowhere he'll hit the move when he's being beaten up, just to slow down his opponent and get back into the fight.

Disagree, very rarely is this done in one fluid moment and it is regularly escaped from/ countered. It is not in the same league as Sweet Chin Music or an RKO.

3. Impact. Yes, the AA is impactful. John Cena takes a man on his shoulders (roughly 6 feet in the air). Then, he throws the guy off his shoulders, flipping them (head first) onto their back, while usually jumping in the air a bit. Maybe Nash's weakass powerbomb. The only impact of the AA is gravity, he flips his opponent off his shoulder and gravity takes them to the floor - he does not assist it like a properly executed powerbomb when someone like the Undertaker drags them down.

And to the people comparing it to being thrown off the top, you're not even close. When peolpe get tossed off the top turnbuckle, the tosser doesn't get as much strength/force on the throw (for the most part) because they will have their arms outstretched in order to grab the tossee. Where does the thrower exert downward force on the victim? If anything getting thrown from the top turntuckle is more impactful because they (as you point out) are getting thrown from a higher height.

And to the people comparing it to the Death Valley Driver, that's all well and good, IF John Cena was actually trying to do a Death Valley Driver. He isn't. He's doing a Standing Fireman's Carry Powerslam. I think you'll find the Natural didn't compare it to a DVD, he said he'd PREFER it if he used a DVD instead of the AA. Neither I nor the Natural slagged off Cena's execution of the move - we said the move itself sucks. You ain't gonna change my opinion on that.

If everybody is mentioning the AA, why is the Angle slam not mentioned? Seems it has about the same problem that people are having w/the AA, IMO.

Erm... this thread is titled the 'Least-Convincing Finishing Moves in WWE' but asides from that Kurt falls with his opponent on this shoulders adding his own falling momentum - the back of his head is also driven into their midrift.

And yeah, the Wasteland doesn't seem all that devastating. However, I think we're forgetting Barrett's, what, 6'7" and he's swinging you down to the ground by an arm and a leg? Well said. The Wasteland often looks awkward and occasionally ugly but this does give it the believability. One thing though, is it this move that caused Cena's bruised hip? If it is hard to control and continues to cause injury, it will need to be either adapted or replaced.

This is an assessment of the weakest finishing moves in the WWe - Cena is a WWe entertainer, correct?
correct. I stated it's pathetic because the move is far from unconvincing, and anyone that thinks otherwise is likely just a Cena Hater.

Disagree, very rarely is this done in one fluid moment and it is regularly escaped from/ countered. It is not in the same league as Sweet Chin Music or an RKO.
He's done it plenty of times quickly. Look at the one below that he administers to Randy Orton.

No, that one takes forever.......

Just because he doesn't always do it that way doesn't mean it can't be done that way.

Maybe Nash's weakass powerbomb. The only impact of the AA is gravity, he flips his opponent off his shoulder and gravity takes them to the floor - he does not assist it like a properly executed powerbomb when someone like the Undertaker drags them down.
1. He doesn't "flip" the guy off his shoulders. He THROWS the guy off his shoulders head over heels, and lands him flat on his back. Notice the bending at the knees and the upward thrust, adding MUCH velocity to the move.
2. He actually does assist somewhat. most of the time you'll see him still control the head until the guy is flat. And he will use his arm that supports the leg to throw the guy up, and oftentimes he will still follow through as the guy goes down.
3. Yes, he doesn't use intense force to throw them down like some powerbombs, but there are plenty of powerbombs that don't use force (every Jackknife by Kevin Nash specificly). And to compare to The Undertaker, who doesn't use a normal powerbomb is unfair.

Where does the thrower exert downward force on the victim? If anything getting thrown from the top turntuckle is more impactful because they (as you point out) are getting thrown from a higher height.

Wow, so some fool in his backyard is telling you how to do a move? I'm not doubting the guys validity, but really, he's a guy in his backyard. This guy, according to his Youtube bio wrestled in the Indys in NY/NJ/PA. Yep, he's the end all be all. Oh, and don't get me started on the idiocy of putting videos on youtube teaching people to do a wrestling move, then saying don't use it unless your trained.

Plus, even in the video, you see him use his left arm (the one holding supporting the opponents leg) well after throwing the guy in the air. At the very worst there's followthrough, and at times you'll still see the arm still there. And the video pretty much explains where the strength in the move comes from, but no, I guess you're right, it's a weak move and throwing off the turnbuckle is SO much more deadly...

Again with the turnbuckle crap. There's no strength in dropping a guy off the turnbuckle, because they have to reach with their arms extended and have no force in the throw, it's all arms.

I think you'll find the Natural didn't compare it to a DVD, he said he'd PREFER it if he used a DVD instead of the AA. Neither I nor the Natural slagged off Cena's execution of the move - we said the move itself sucks. You ain't gonna change my opinion on that.
you're right, but clearly you missed my second part of the comment, where I clearly stated that the Death Valley Driver is probably not even allowed because of the immense risk of serious head injury.

Erm... this thread is titled the 'Least-Convincing Finishing Moves in WWE' but asides from that Kurt falls with his opponent on this shoulders adding his own falling momentum - the back of his head is also driven into their midrift.
does Angle fall with his shoulders on top of the guy? No? Then there's no added impact. It's really the same thing, as Angle doesn't jump to the ground, he just falls with the guy, adding no more velocity to the slam. And until a guy starts selling the whole back of the head hitting the midsection that's a load of shit too.

Again, the AA is hated and the Angle Slam is loved because ones by Kurt Angle, and the other is by John Cena. That's it.

I'm sorry but of these three moves (four if you count the Batista Bomb), the AA still strikes me as the least impactful. I don't 'hate' Cena and while I don't like the AA it's still more believable than...

or...

And I love both these guys.
