Lawler/Miz Title Match has ended a 2 year streak

The streak is referring to ppv title matches, hence the reason it's in the ppv section. Please keep that in mind when posting.

This is pretty major moment in recent times. This Sunday at EC, a streak that has lasted since 2009 will come to an end. For the first time since early 2009, WWE Title Match will not have Randy Orton or John Cena in the match. Since middle 2009, either John Cena or Orton have main evented the WWE Title match no matter the opponent.

So imo, this is pretty huge match that has ended quite a streak.

I don't see it as that big of deal. It doesn't make this match HUGE as you've claimed, it just simply means that WWE has other ideas at this point in time for Orton and Cena. I don't think many people have even noticed to be honest, and soon enough there will no doubt be a match for the belt with either of them in it.

2 years is not a streak to me. A streak leaves a long lasting impression. 5+ years is more of a streak than the 2 years you mentioned.

I think that's really interesting. I hadn't even noticed, not consciously anyway. It goes a long way to explaining why I'm so sick of both of them.

The Rock and Austin were no doubt at the top but in their time I never felt like they were being forced on me and coercively shoved down my throat like I do with Orton/Cena.

May it be the start of something beautiful and a more varied main event scene all together.

i think it is a streak compared to the number of times the title get passed around these days. i wouldnt be that surprised if the let lawler win and just lose it right back to miz in the rematch

I'm sick to death of Orton and Cena, so even though it's basically a throw away PPV and a throw away title match, I welcome the change. I think WWE needs to really work on shuffling the eligible contenders more often. Because honestly I'd really rather pay for a PPV to see Zach Ryder or Santino challenging for the title than Orton or Cena at this point. I think the key to making this work is to stop being so damn predictable about who has a legitamate chance at winning a title.

In the '80s while there were obvious "top stars" it was also never out of the realm of possibility that Hacksaw, Rick Rude, Mr. Perfect, Roddy Piper, Bad News Brown, Bret Hart, Ricky Steamboat, etc. etc. etc. all could challenge for the world title and seriously have a chance. When you see a match on paper nowadays 99% of the time it's obvious who is going to win, and the only times it's not as obvious is when they put their top stars together. In a match like this though, Lawler has no hope in hell, and if by some miracle he does win he'll lose it the next night. Predictability has killed the title picture in WWE.

i agree. Lawyer wont win it and we all know that. why? lawyer just to "old to hold the company on his shoulders like the Miz can. if somehow lawyer somehow get a pin. aka surprise roll up or something, you know miz will invoke his rematch clause and then beat lawyer the next night on raw. its honestly quite pathetic.
this is why I like roh. thou for the first few months you know the wont isnt going to be dropped. most people have LONG reigns, not short ass ones. always great matches none the less!

It actually wasn't early 2009 but late 2008, when the World heavyweight championship was Jericho vs Batista and Hardy vs Triple H for the WWE championship

But I think this is just a throwaway opponent for The miz to get him over

only reason is because its at elimination chamber. the wwe tittle is not gonna be the main event match either sd or raw elimination chamber will close the show. its no big deal orton or cena will be back in the tittle match at mania

This is Fresh, something different and different is good. I'm a fan of Cena and Orton, I think they both are good but I feel it's time to let others stand in the spotlight at WM. Cena has issues with CM Punk. I think them fighting at WM would be awesome. I think Lawler should win the title and lose it at WM cause of Cole and go from there but Orton and Cena need to not be in the Main event at WM this year.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but this is the first time on a PPV, that both Randy Orton and John Cena are not involved in either of the title match's. Unless I'm mistaken, this is the first time since Survivor Series '06 that both Cena and Orton were not involved in a title match on PPV, and there was at least 1 of the 2 titles on the card...

Wow... your so right.. wwe is has taken the sport aspect from wrestling. orton and cena are no more then wanna be mid carders during the 80s. no chance in hell should cena or orton have a chance in beating Mr. Perfect, Savage, Ricky Steamboat, or even the Big Bossman.. But wat sadens me the most is how the WWE flaunts both these guys as if they should be hall of famers.. Its still a complete joke to me that cena has now held more then 7 world titles.. im tellin you the WWE title means absolutly nothing. the only thing that is worth seeing these day are undertakers streak matchs which only happen once a year.. it would absolutly kill me if they let Either Cena or Orton beat him at Wrestlemania hook or crook.. Ive been a fan since 1989 and on the day that happens i will officialy throw it IN..

Lol you are INSANE. That would be the most ridiculously asinine think WWE has ever done. First of all, Lawler has no business being in a title match at WM. Second of all, Orton or Cena damn well better be in the WWE title match at WM if you want people to care about the show. And finally, the Lawler-Cole thing absolutely, positively MUST END at Wrestlemania!

Anyway, as for this "streak" it's actually a lot longer than that, if you include the World title as well. Don't forget about Triple H either, he was a regular before last year. The last time there was a show without any of those three involved in a title match was when Triple H was out with his FIRST quad tear.

Everybody is entitled into an opinion just like their asshole. I think this is good for the business, but Orton and Cena sale tickets. These guys are the reason why so many people watch Monday Night Raw. If you notice the direction that the show have been going, then you will notice that the new blood is catching more focus. I think your hyped because your might not be an Orton/Cena fan now, but you probably once was.

Having never been a cena or orton fan, i am very excited that neither are competing for the title. it should of happened last ppv with miz vs morrison. i know some of you will say that they wanted morrison in the royal rumble because of his cool spots, but orton still found his way into the rumble, so that point is moot. they just had to find another reason to force a guy who cant talk, and relies pretty heavily on his finisher to get over, down our collective throats. now for the first time that neither of the two men are in the title match, we have a guy who has no chance of winning the match. the only reason i wont trash the wwe for this is because they brought back the rock, so they have a free pass from me for awhile. not that my oppinion means anything, lol.

People who say that this isn't a streak I ask you to look back at when you're talking about what five years was and contrast that today. In today's day and age where you have a dozen or more pay per views each year is very comparable to the years gone by where you'd have maybe three or four major shows in a year.

For those who say it isn't a streak, let me show you The Orton/Cena WWE Title Streak:

Wrestlemania 25- HHH vs Randy Orton
Backlash 2009- Team Orton vs Team HHH
Judgement Day 2009- Randy Orton vs Batista
Extreme Rules 2009- Randy Orton vs Batista
The Bash 2009- Randy Orton vs HHH
Night of Champions 2009- Randy Orton vs HHH vs John Cena

Wrestlemania 26- John Cena vs Batista
Extreme Rules 2010- John Cena vs Batista
Over The Limit 2010- John Cena vs Batista
Fatal Four Way 2010- John Cena vs Randy Orton vs Sheamus vs Edge
Money In The Bank 2010- John Cena vs Sheamus
Summerslam 2010- Sheamus vs Randy Orton
Night of Champions 2010- Randy Orton vs Sheamus vs Edge vs Jericho vs John Cena vs Wade Barrett

TLC 2010- The Miz vs Randy Orton

^As you can see, that is quite a streak.

Really not that big of a deal. Thought it was a decent amount of time. It isn't like when Hogan was the champion, he was obviously in every title match for 4 years. Not one of 2 guys, ONE guy.

So, I do not consider this to be a major changing of the guard or anything to get excited about.
