Kurt Angles best WWF/WWE Match

Slow day so I decided to see what you guys think is Kurt Angles best match in his time with the WWE/WWF. Remember GIVE REASONS!

I'm going to go with Kurt Angle vs. Brock Lesnar at Summerslam 2003. While their Wrestlemania match gets a lot of hype this one is miles better in my opinion. First because Kurt is healthy here and Brock is more seasoned.

This match has a lot more near falls and close finishes than their first encounter and it gets my vote over his match with Shawn Michaels at Wrestlemania 21, but just barely.

Overall though I think I'm going to vote for his Summerslam 2003 match the nod here because even when I watch it now knowing the outcome like I do it still is an emotional roller coaster from start to finish. Add in the fact that is a world title match you get all you need for a great Wrestling Match.

I have to go with his match against chris benoit at the 2003 royal rumble. To me that is the greatest wrestling match I've ever seen...........ever! Back and forth, hold for hold, counter for counter, the intensity and precision of that match was imo unmatched. It was a clean finish with no cheating from either guy which was quite refreshing. The standing ovation for benoit afterwards was perfectly fitting and captured that moment beautifully. Basically I like that match because it was anyone's match to win and whatever happened would have been completely believable and deserved as both guys just went at it in a great technical battle.

Kurt's matches against Benoit were good but I feel they were immensely overrated. I find it difficult to single out a definite "best match" so I'll just slap together a quick shortlist.

Vs. Shane McMahon, Street Fight, King of the Ring 2001​

An odd choice, considering others will be throwing thirty minute submission matches out there. In my mind, the best Shane McMahon match ever and the best street fight ever - yes, better than Michaels/McMahon. Absolutely brutal, particularly when Kurt starts throwing him through the glass bits of the set. Everything you expect from a street fight.

Vs. Brock Lesnar, WrestleMania XIX​

I think he had better matches with Lesnar (if I remember correctly) but this stands out as a pretty good example. It's a shame that Brock nearly killed himself but hey, whatever. I remember watching this match live and being blown away. Great match.

Vs. Shawn Michaels, WrestleMania 21​

Gets my vote out of the options. His best match with HBK, undoubtedly. Tops many people's favourite match ever list and, at least I feel, deservedly so. I just remember it being fucking intense toward the end. The look on my face when that Superkick just came out of nowhere!

Vs. The Undertaker, No Way Out 2006​

Well, duh. As if you didn't expect to see this. Don't really know what to say except for it being very, very good. One of 'Taker's finest matches in his much longer career too.

Kurt Angle Vs. Shawn Michaels - WrestleMania 21

Not only Angles greatest match in the WWE, but the greatest WWE match of all time. I can't think of a single thing wrong with it. 2 of my favourite stars tearing the house down at Wrestlemania. This is my favourite match, and many other agree. Angle showed exactly what he could do, and every time I watch this match I think of how bad it is for the WWE Angle is in TNA instead of with them.

It was everything I want in a match. They were showing passion, the crowd were into it, the end was great, the match told the audience so much. If all WWE was like this the ratings would be sky high.

God, Sam had a great list of Kurt Angle matches. The Street Fight with Shane was phenomenal. Of course the Lesnar match was great. Same with the Shawn Michaels match. Nothing wrong at all with that match. The Taker match at No Way Out was one for the ages. But I think if there are two matches that gets overlooked it would be Kurt Angle vs. The Undertaker at Fully Loaded 2000 and Kurt Angle vs. The Undertaker at Survivor Series 2000. A lot of good ring psychology going down in those matches. Plus the crowd heat in both of them. Both were fantastic in my opinion and it really showed Kurts skill to pull a good mach out of the Undertaker at that point in his game.

Check them out you wont be disappointed.

man, the choices to vote for were pretty limited

you certainly can not limit it to one match or even two or three

heres my top choices that I can not pick between

vs. Stone Cold-Summerslam 2001-my lord, could these two even have a bad match, this one however was the best in their series

vs. Chris Benoit-Wrestlemania 17, Judgment Day 2001(2 out of 3 Falls), Backlash 2001(30 minute ultimate submission match), Unforgiven 2002, Royal Rumble 2003, man these two have history, not one bad match between the 2

vs. Rock vs. Undertaker-Vengeance 2002-by far the best triple threat match YOU WILL EVER SEE, don't believe me, find it and watch it for yourself

vs. Brock-Wrestlemania 19-excellent, but im one of the few who will say it could have been better, had it not been for Angles bad neck at the time

vs. Michaels-Wrestlemania 21-a finer match in both mens careers. which is really saying something, I mean come on, its angle and michaels were talking about

vs. Undertaker-No Way Out 06-matches since 2003 have all seemed to be missing something, very few matches since then can you truly call great, but this is one of them

Meh! The Angle/Taker match at No Way Out '06 left a bad taste in my mouth personally for one reason and one reason only, and that was the finish.

For those who have never seen the match or don't recall it, the match concludes with Taker locking in a triangle choke on Angle for at least a couple of minutes. It was at this point, where Angle had been in the hold for quite a while, that i turned to my mate as we were watching and said to him, 'Ya know, it would be really shit if Kurt just rolled Taker back onto his shoulders and pinned him' and wouldn't ya know it, 3 seconds after i finished that sentence that's exactly what happened.

I much prefer his random 2003 Smackdown match against Taker that's on the special features of 'Tombstone', and his Iron Man Match with Lesnar which was also on Smackdown.

But my all time fave has to be the 2/3 Falls Triple Threat with Benoit and Jericho. It was just a wonderful example of technical wrestling in the form of a triple threat instead of 3 guys with totally different styles and to have Angle not be involved in either fall was simply classic, allowing for two new champions to be crowned without anything being taken away from Angle in terms of momentum or anything, thereby allowing him to become a ME player very quickly (it also set the trend for Angle LOSING title matches at every WM).

Another match i truly enjoyed was Kurt v Rikishi at KOTR 2000. After Angle vanquished Jericho following a Stephanie distraction and near enough squashed Crash Holly, and Rikishi won by DQ against Benoit in like 3 minutes and beat Val Venis, it seemed like Kurt had had to do more work to get to the finals and was up against a 400pound mountain in Rikishi and to see him not only hit the Olympic Slam as well as a top rope Belly to Belly was awesome

I'm going to have to go with the majority and say my favorite Angle match was the one where he faced HBK at WM21. I am a huge fan of HBK, and I thought both men worked so good together and put on one of the best wrestling matches I have ever seen. Not only was the actual wrestling done well, they also had the fans and everyone on the edge of their seat. People were really involved in the match and Angle/HBK's in ring psychology told a great story that made people even more into the total match. I'm not usually a huge fan of these types of matches since I usually get bored but this match had me from the beginning. The ending was also perfect and was not a let down. The Lesnar matches were all solid but I wasn't as emotionally attached to their matches as I was with Angle Vs. HBK.

Easily Angle vs HBK at WrestleMania 21.

It was a fantastic match. Argubaly the best match in the history of wrestling, it was that good. This match was when HBK was still amazing, and this match proved that both of these wrestlers were the best. The most technically amazing match I have ever seen. Even watching at 3AM and I was wide awake, fantastic match. Both wrestlers brought out their 'A' game, and boy, it was amazing. It just proved that Angle is indeed, one of the, if not THE, greatest wrestler of all time.

I voted for the Shawn Michaels vs Kurt Angle match at Wrestleamania 21.

The reason I chose this match was IMO this was Angle's best match that I can remember, it had everything....great timing, awesome intense exchanges and some of the closest calls ever seen, it was a great back and forth match up that had me on the end of my seat.

I chose Other because his match vs Beniot at the 03 RR is my favorite. I remember seeing it when they were airing PPV's at the big Movie theater here and there was not one flaw in that great match. At the end as the crowd gave the Standing O, everyone in the theater was doing the same in true honor of a great match.

I voted for other cause my favorite was Angle vs. Rock vs. The Undertaker at Vengeance 02. Maybe it was just cause I was there live but it was far and away my favorite triple threat match of all time. It was filled with false finishes which is something I enjoy and you were on the edge of your seat the last 5+ minutes of the match. For anybody that hasnt seen it I recommend checking it out.

I believe that the Kurt Angle vs Chris Benoit affair was the greatest Angle match that has been done. The match was just pure excellence and amazing. I like the fact that the finish was clean because it gave you an idea of who was truly bdetter that day. This was always an amazing rivalry and the fact that Benoit got a standing ovation after the match made it that much sweeter. Both wrestlers put up a great performance.

this may be in the 'other' section but I love and am a huge fan of Kurt Angle, and I think his all time best moment was either the 30. man iron man match in 06 with HBK or his first world title run when he beat 5 other men in a 6 man HIAC. The first and last ever Armageddon Hell in a Cell.

There was one in Armageddon 2005 between the Undertaker and Randy Orton.


My favorite was the Vengeance Triple Threat Match....I loved how Taker did the Angle Slam, and Angle did the Rock Bottom....Great beginning, middle, and finish...Wish Taker would have won though

i agree the Armageddon match was his best. it had it all great start middle and finish as you said. the 3 guys stealing there opponents finishers was classic. i just wish Angle would come back to wwe some day they need him now more than ever. he makes everybody he gets in the ring with look as good as him. thats what he is doing in TNA now.

Shawn Michaels vs. Kurt Angle maybe the best matchup in Wrestlemania history, the only one that I think comes close to it is the Michaels vs. Jericho matchup two years earlier.

However, this wasn't Angle's best match, or best feud, that honor goes to Chris Benoit. The matches that Benoit and Angle had with each other were beyond phenomenal and is my candidadte for feud of the decade. From their IC title feud, to the 2001 feud which saw a mania match, a submission Iron Man match, and a 3 Stages of Hell, these two delievered every single time. Toss in the Raw cage match which saw both an Anglesault and a Diving head butt from the top of the cage.

All that though compares nothing to the king of benoit vs. Angle, Royal Rumble 03. Quite simply my favorite match of all time. The Boston crowd was insane for Benoit that night, the two told an insanely good story in the ring, and Benoit got that close once again. This feud set off Benoits eventual title run. The ovation Benoit got that night five minutes after losing that match was epic. Truley the best match in both mens careers.

I have to go against the flow and go with the first time we really saw the brutality Angle was capable of. His King of the Ring match was by no means the technical masterclasses the likes of the Michaels or Benoit feuds produced.

It lacked the big name value of Michaels and Lesnar at Wrestlemania headliners. Instead, it was the lowly Shane McMahon who has provided the match I think Angle was at his best in.

'Why? It was a Street Fight' I hear you say. 30 Minute Ultimate Submission matches against Chris Benoit play to his strengths... and that's why I have to give it to the Street Fight. For Angle, a pure bred Olympian to go out and have to adapt to an environment where the goal is to assault your opponent until you can go no further is everything Angle wasn't at the time. It took him out his technical comfort zone and threw him into an arena he had never encountered at the Olympics.

And the results were brutal.

For years after, the immortal scene of Angle suplexing Shane off a sheet glass window which refused to break, causing him to do it again after Shane hit the floor was used for reasons not to try this at home. Not forgetting, he'd already put him threw the first sheet to get under the structure to begin with.

This was a different Angle, and it really showed just what he could do, how well he adapted to ANY environment.

That's why Shane McMahon, KOTR 2001 wins my vote as the best Angle match.
