King of the Ring 2010?

JBK2008

HBK's Left Hand Man!
Okay so since the KOTR returned in 2006 it has been used twice. One for SmackDown in which Booker T won and again in 2008 where it was on Raw and William Regal won it. In 2006, the KOTR tournament was held on SmackDown spread over several weeks and the finals was held at the Judgement Day PPV where Booker T defeated Bobby Lashley. The 2008 KOTR was held on Raw and the entire tournament was held on a 3 hour special Raw with William Regal defeating CM Punk to win it. It seems every 2 years there's a KOTR tournament. One has been on Raw and another on SmackDown. I'm not saying ECW should host one because the roster isn't deep enough and there aren't many credible superstars there to make in worth watching. So if there is another KOTR next year, should it be multi branded? Should it be an 8 or 16 man tournament spread amongst all 3 brands? Ideas? Thoughts? Comments?

I would go with a tri branded tournament but have matches on Superstars with the finals at Night of Champions or The Bash. The first round or so could be on Superstars with the quarter and semi finals on Raw, ECW and SmackDown. Also, there should be 16 superstars in it. As far as a winner goes, Regal could be a 2 time KOTR and build him up to be a legit main eventer. The Miz, Jack Swagger, Mark Henry, Tyler Rekks, Paul Burchill and Dolph Ziggler are just a long list of guys who could also win it.

I agree with all 3 brands, & having 16 superstars in it. I agree with you all the way up untillll the winners go. Tyler Rekks?? He's whack too. Mark Henry? Nah, i'd rather him not be King. Burchill too.
I highly agree that Regal has potential 2 be the world champ, & hopefully he will get the opportunity to do so.

As for who I would have winning the whole thing, I would have Ziggler or Swagger winning it all. And throw in some vets in the mix too just 2 make things a little more interesting like a CM Punk or even HBK.

It just helps out, like when Kurt Angle was trying 2 become a 2-time KOTR winner. He didn't need it, but it just created a larger aura around the whole tournament.

So since it's been 2 years apart a grand total of... 1 time, there seems to be a KOTR every 2 years? There is certainly no time table of how often KOTR happens. Your idea with having all 3 brands represented is just... but the execution is terrible. KOTR is a concept a lot of people seem to really enjoy and since the WWE seems to be re-doing all their PPVs, what they should do is do it the old fashioned way, and make KOTR a PPV again. Have it as a PPV after NOC. With NOC, everybody gets their title match fix. 3-4 weeks later, have KOTR. Because after a night of all title matches, we don't need more title matches. Maybe just the 1 or 2 main ones. Get rid of The Bash or whatever and have KOTR lead us into Summerslam. This way you have a great superstar on the rise to build momentum into SSlam, then on through the Rumble and WMania. KOTR has been a stepping stone for so many superstars throughout the years. HHH, Austin, Owen, Edge (yeah he won... who remembers that), and Lesnar (like he needed it) just to name a few. They need to bring back KOTR as a PPV where an up-and-coming superstar really gets the chance to shine for the night in some straight 1-on-1 matches. None of this spreading it out over the course of a few weeks because that's stupid and people lose interest very easily. At least I know I do. You need to have your qualifying matches on the 3 main shows, then just like most of the years on PPV, 8 superstars are in the quarterfinals, semi-finals, then the finals. That's 7 matches for the tournament on PPV, then add your 2 title matches, and boom... solid PPV.

I Think it would be a really good idea for there to be a Tri Branded King Of The Ring, it's such a good concept and made some great superstars from it.
Got to agree With Shafe, id much prefer The King Of The Ring pay per view than something like The Bash or Judgment Day.

I would make it a 16 Man Tournament. Id have these superstars in it, MVP, Mark Henry, the Miz, John Morrison, Dolph Ziggler, Matt Hardy, Chrisitian, William Regal, Sheamus, Jack Swagger, Evan Bourne, Rey Mysterio, Ted Dibaise, Cody Rhodes, R Truth, Santino Marella and Drew Macintyre.

With My winner being Jack Swagger, would of been Christian but I think he's gonna win Money In the Bank this year.
I got bored :p.

Well, I for one remember that... but who remembers this lovely moment so grand it made my signature...

Now as to the question raised...

I've always enjoyed KOTR. It's one of my all time favorites, right up there with the Royal Rumble (pre-2003) and Survivor Series (pre-2002). The last one was a wash of a concept just to fill time and give Regal a new push... but sadly he got suspended shortly thereafter for the Wellness policy violation so it took a while to really get that off the ground. And much deserved I might add...

If it were brought back I say take it old school like shafe said. And the best part is you can book it to include fueds without the guys working each other. There can be interference, or the eluding to "when i win i get to kick his ass"... or do it in the ring. It can also rehash some old feuds and a bunch of other stuff. This makes me want to watch my old KOTR again.... ah where is 1994 at?

Oh yeah and the only thing I have to say about potential winner is not Kofi.... even though it might turn him heel ala Mabel winning it... I just don't want to hear Cole OR Josh (if he were traded in the draft) say King Kingston...

Yeah, I'd love to see a KOTR this year. Multi-brand would be nice.

King Ziggler has a nice ring to it.......or King Cody Rhodes.......or King Christian... or King Kofi Kingston.......or King Jack.......or King John Morrison

So many deserving wrestlers it be hard to pick a winner. But any of those above would be fine by me.

Why wait for 2010? I actually thought, with the name of the ppv, that Bragging Rights would be the next kotr tournament, where there would be a 16 man tournament with the top 16 guys duking it out to be the tournament champion and having the ultimate bragging rights. I think tournaments on ppv's are an excellent way to create new and exciting feuds, grow up-and-coming superstars, and create unpredictable and never before seen matches. I seem to recall that the last time there was a big tournament on a ppv, it was the survivor series, which became the coming out party for the Rock, as he won the world title. It was also the beginning of the corporation, as the Rock made his allegiance with Mr Mcmahon.

Now the way it has been described is that bragging rights is going to be a raw vs smackdown style ppv, with the brands fighting each other, and the winning combatants facing each other in the end of the night tag style match. Are you kidding me? This is stupid? Why have a brand warfare style ppv with about 3 weeks to build up any anger between the brands. Something like this is more suited towards a survivor series. Also, will this just be raw vs smackdown, will ecw be involved. If that is the case, then were going to see a lot of really bad, non-ppv caliber matches. And again, stressing the survivor series ppv, why would you have a big tag match at the end of the show, is that not what survivor series is for. I really hope there has been a communication error, and in fact bragging rights will be a tournament ppv.

If it is a tournament ppv, this is how I see it shaping up. Each brand will have a title match on the ppv, and so the champion and the challenger will not be able to gain entry into the tournament. This way it also breaks up the rounds to give the wrestler's some rest. Then 16 of the top superstars will compete in a single elimination tournament. You'll have guys like DX, Legacy, JeriShow, Ziggler, Morrison, Batista, Mysterio, and so on. So really a who's who of top stars and up-and-comers. So the ppv is round of 16, then ecw title match, then round of 8, world/wwe title match, semi-finals, other world/wwe title match, and the tourney finals. The winner of the tournament will be given wwe bragging rights as being the top superstar (ie kotr) as well they will be get a wwe title shot against whichever champion they choose at the survivor series.

well they need to do a tri-branded tournament nd witht he finals nd semi finals at a ppv. as far as a winner it should be a face cause the past 2 winners have been heels

i would go with either kingston or morrison as the winners with ryder or ziggler facing them in the finals

Id love to see it come back, because it helps establish new stars, show cases talent, build stories and feuds. If it goes tri-branded Then starting off with 16 superstars and working down to 2 would be a lot easier. 6 guys on Raw, 6 on Smackdown and 4 from ECW. (ECW gets the shaft due to having a smaller roster. First round on the respective brand, then the rest would be crossed brand matches. I also think having some of the matches on Superstars would be a smart move, because it adds to the show, maybe adding to the ratings.

Booker T winning KOTR help reboot his career, and his character. I found King Booker really entertaining, and enjoyable. SUCKA

William Regal probably would of been pushed all the way to a World Title after his KOTR win that year, if he wouldnt of got popped.

If it comes back someone cocky and young would have to win to take full advantage of it. Drew McIntyre, Zack Ryder, Dolph Ziggler, Jack Swagger, Cody Rhodes, or Ted DiBiase. A face could win it, maybe Rhodes or Dibiase as they turn from heel to face.

ooooooooooor just have Triple H win it so he can be the King of the Ring of Kings

I also found "King Booker" very funny and entertaining. His split personality was hilarious. He drew alot of heat, and really had the crowd into his promos. I still watch him on youtube. WWE needs to try and resign him, have him win the kotr again. regal, i just dont know how he won the tournament, if it wouldve been on pay per view that year, he wouldnt have won it. He just doesnt have the look, personality or the build to be world champion, come on people. Ziggler and morrison also shouldnt be world champion. "He is you winner and new wwe champiooooon, "dolph ziggler" That just sounds stupid and would never get over with the crowd.

A tri-brand KOTR featuring only upper mid card talent would be excellent. Imagine all the great matches you can see with main event stars of tomorrow. Start with 16 or even 32 competitors on TV and work your way down to 8 for the PPV which would be 7 KOTR matches and have a few specialty matches. I find the unique PPV's to be the more interesting to see. KOTR, Survivor Series, RR, WM all have unique concepts. WM's concept btw is that its their least rushed PPV with the best opportunity to see a dream match.

They should make a 16man tri branded KOTR and include main eventers such as Y2J, Rey-Rey etc. And in the end they should let a mid carder win and push them to main-event status. I personally want evan or matt to win. Evan performs great and Matt is also a great performer, just that they are not pushed as much as others.

The last few years have I've been OK with no KOTR simply because I havn't been a big fan of WWE's midcard, but the midcard at the moment in the best that it has been in a very, very long time. There are alot of guys who, with a big KOTR ppv win, could be elevated to Main Event status, especially if the win got you a World/WWE title shot somewhere down the line. A guy like Matt Hardy would benefit tremendously from a big KOTR win, or even Christian.

KOTR would be nice to see again now that the mid card on Raw and SmackDown are both looking great. Plug Big Show, Rey and Jericho in there to give it a power boost and it would be amazing to see!

I would love to see a tri branded KOTR tournament. I could see it being the push that a midcarder needs. I could see Ziggler, McIntyre, or Benjamin willing it. It should be all midcarders. No Kane, just names that need to be established. It could do some good.

A Tribranded tournament would be good over the course of a few weeks with the finals at a PPV between Regal & Swagger with Swagger becoming The King.

On a side note 2010 should have MVP win the rumble to face Orton at Mania, Edge surprise return at NWO to win the Chamber to face Jericho & Punk at WM and Morrison win MITB. Hopefully 2010 we will start to see some stars make the jump to mainevent
