King of the Ring 03-09 predictions

dont know if this goes here or old school wrestling

we all know that king of the ring was a PPV that started in 93 & a tournament that started in the mid 80s but didnt really become popular until the early 90s where the winner of the tournament would use it as a stepping stone from the mid card into the main event (austin, hhh, angle, edge, lesnar) with the exception of some people (mable/viscera & mr. ass)

but the 2002 King of the Ring was the last real KOTR even though they brought the tournament back alone in 06 on exclusively on SD & 08 on a RAW episode

so what i want to know is who wouldve won the tournament (combining Smackdown, Raw, & even ECW), had the WWE not gotten rid of the PPV, from 03-09 (i know it happened in 06 & 08 but they didnt feature all 3 shows just 1 & it still could happen this yr but i highly doubt it since summer is almost over)?????

heres what i think:
2003- Bill Goldberg (ok we all know Goldberg was in the main event before he came to the WWE) but having him win the tournament over maybe someone like Orton wouldve worked storyline wise because he eventually began a feud with HHH & Evolution over the World title

2004- kind of hard one to pick a winner but eventually i chose Randy Orton over John Cena (Orton was IC Champ & Cena was US Champ at this time so the finals pick was sort of easy) but i picked Orton because it would make somewhat make sense because after he dropped the IC title to Edge, a month later he became World Champion & was kicked out of Evolution the night after that

2005- Muhammad Hassan (KOTR happens around June so this wouldve happened 1 month before he got released because of that infamous angle that happened on smackdown with hassan & the undertaker) He would beat Rey in the final since he is the "Ultimate Underdog" & wouldve miraculously made his way into the final only to come so close & lose to the hated Muhammad Hassan, a month later he was suppose to beat the undertaker & become the #1 contender for the title at summerslam but because of the incident taker won & his character was "killed off" (man i miss him & the heat he use to draw, i wonder what accomplishments this guy wouldve achieved in the WWE had that controversy on Smackdown never happened but thats for a another thread at another time)

2006- If all 3 shows combined for this one as well Booker T wouldve won anyways because of that stupid "King Booker" gimmick he would later have

2007-Umaga because he feuded with Cena over the WWE title, wrestled in a highly anticipated match at WM23 in the "Battle of the Billionaires" match, & was IC champ a couple of times that yr too and prolly wouldve defeated jeff hardy in the final cuz they wrestled & feuded over the IC Title for a while in 07

2008- i just realized even though the tournament occured on RAW it did feature superstars from all 3 brands & perhaps regal wouldve won anyways if this was on PPV because i guess he was going to get a push until he failed a drug test

2009- John Morrison over Jack Swagger so u can give JoMo more credibility when he feuds with Punk over the World Title cuz there arent really alot of Main Event Faces on Smackdown (Jeff Hardy is suppose to be gone for a while & dont know when Undertaker is coming back) & Morrison really hasnt done anything singles wise since 07 when he was ECW champion so winning the KOTR would do him favors

Okay, here’s what I think would have happened.

My selections are based on the Stars who were not involved in a Title match / feud at the PPVs in the months of May, June and July for each year.

2003 – Chris Jericho or Mr. America. I could see Jericho beating Goldberg in the Raw Semi – Final and Mr. America beating Sean O’Haire in the Smackdown Semi – Final.

2004 – This would be an “Off-Year” and I would go with a Mid – Carder here in the form of either Tyson Tomko or Kenzo Suzuki who both had someone to be their “Queen” respectively at the time. This also could have ignited a Tomko vs. Christian feud over Trish, maybe include Jericho for a Triple Threat. This could also could have some funny @$$ segments for King Kenzo and Queen Hiroko.

2005 – I believe this King Of The Ring final could have been Chris Benoit vs. Eddie Guerrero. Their match at ECW One Night Stand was pretty damn good and a rematch set in the form of the KOTR Tournament Finals would have been the icing on the cake between these two friends. It has the importance of a Title match, without interfering in the WWE's plans for Championship feuds going on at that time.

2007 – This is sort of complicated, but I’ll explain as best as I can. First, instead of having its own PPV, I would have the match to crown the 2007 KOTR take place at the First Annual, Night Of Champions as the Main Event. With that being said, I would have liked to have seen a King Of The Ring / Champion Of Champions match between ECW Champion, Johnny Nitro vs. World Champion, Edge vs. WWE Champion, John Cena. The Match Stream would have looked like this.

Vengeance Night Of Champions
Match 1 – Cruiserweight Title
Match 2 – Women’s Title
Match 3 – WWE Tag Team Titles
Match 4 – World Tag Team Titles
Match 5 – ECW Title
Match 6 – World Title
Match 7 – WWE Title
Match 8 – United States Title
Match 9 – Intercontinental Title
Match 10 – King Of The Ring with the winners of the three World Title matches in a Triple Threat Elimination Match for the Crown

I would have gone with either Nitro for the surprise win here or Cena for the “Kids Go Home Happy” win here. Besides, Edge already won the crown before.

The original post is just about spot on for me. The only exceptions would be Goldberg would be well above the KOTR and thus Orton would start his summer push there leading up to the Elimination Chamber in August. So Orton in 2003.

Cena in 2004. After the US title win, he was getting pushed to the moon and took very few falls. Cena takes it all.

2005, 2007, and 2009 sound good to me. But at the same time we can never be too sure as I, and many others, thought Punk would take it all last year.
