Decent month of fights. Two legitimate championships on the line this month, as well with Wonjongkam and Wladimir both putting up their championships. However, perhaps the most anticipated fight happens on the 2nd, in the aforementioned Heavyweight championship bout.

Still, the 23rd is stacked and the rest of the month is peppered with quality fights.

Championship bouts are in slanted, blue text.

So, Klitschko vs. Haye just ended. I didn't mind the fight as a whole, but it was less than impressive. I chalk most of that up to David Haye only fighting for that one hitter quitter. Had Haye fought the entire fight the way he did in the 12th round then I could have seen him actually winning this fight. However, Haye kept looking for that one big shot to put Klitschko out and it never came. I also thought it was really cheap of Haye to keep flopping all around the way in which he did. I understand that some acting is needed to get some of those points, but the blatant flopping that Haye was doing was disgraceful. Klitschko did a good job of throwing punches but not putting himself in any bad situations. Overall, it was an alright fight but it was way more underwhelming then I thought and hoped it would be.

And now the official decision is about to be made. No surprise there.

May I also add that both men had excellent entrances. I really loved that Klitschko came out to Red Hot Chili Peppers, but also came out with George Foreman in his corner. That was a really cool moment to see. Also, did anyone else notice that James Thompson came out with David Haye? I know that Thompson is a heavy hitter but if he was honestly one of Haye's primary training partners then I think Haye trained with some shitty people.

I had very low expectations going into the Haye/Klitschko fight and even with them... I still find myself disappointed.

Broken toe my ass... David Haye is a fucking chump. I thought Wladimir looked like absolute shit, but it didn't matter because Haye did nothing to capitalize on it. All Wlad did was throw that jab as expected, but even then he didn't through it frequently. Moreover, that left hook from Wlad was there all day, and he refused to throw it, even though Emanuel Steward was pleading for him to do so.

Haye... I mean, what can you say? After all that trash talk, he didn't even try tonight. All he did was bounce around, hardly ever opening up. He would throw a one-two combination and then bounce away. All fight long he did that a couple of times throughout a round, nothing else. He really took less risk than Wlad. After the fight he blamed a broken toe, but I call bullshit on that. After all that talk, it was Haye who was petrified of getting knocked out. Pathetic.

Horrible fight. The only thing redeeming about it was Larry Merchant's commentary, which was hilarious. Outside of that, just a waste of everyone's time and money.

Big day/night of boxing.

Just got done watching Paul Williams vs. Erislandy Lara. Lara controlled the entire fight with his overhand left, yet the judges still awarded the decision to Williams, in one of the biggest robberies in recent memory. At first, I thought Paul Williams was fighting like trash, but the fact is... Lara is simply the better boxer and man does this kid have a bright future ahead of him. Hopefully this ROBBERY doesn't affect motivation for the future. I know he must feel fucking gutted right now.

Akifumi Shimoda vs. Rico Ramos was on the undercard. Shimoda looked excellent in the early rounds. His combination of footwork and head movement was really intriguing to watch, but alas... as soon as Ramos got aggressive, he scored a left hook knock out. Was disappointed to see the Japanese fighter go down like that after looking so good, but it is what it is I guess. Hopefully HBO shows some more interest in those little fighters over in Japan. Would love to see more of their fights here in the US.

Brandon Rios vs. Urbano Antillon aired on Showtime, and it turned out to be a FANTASTIC 3 round war. Everyone expected the fight to be a barn burner, but fuck these two really went at it. It was just a shame it had to end so soon. Rios has some major potential of being a star in the US. He reminds me a bit of Nick Diaz in MMA with his fighting style and talking.... that's something boxing could really use right now.

And Lucian Bute scored a SPECTACULAR knockout earlier in the day against Jean-Paul Mendy. Well, it was really the crowd reaction (Bute was fighting in his home country of Romania) that made it so special. Check it out for yourself:

I really, really hope Bute gets the winner of Dawson/Hopkins.

I've only been watching boxing for a few years now but this is one of the worst decisions I've seen. It ranks up there with this guy Kid Diamond getting a victory over a deserving, tough as nails Mexican fighter whose name escapes me at the moment. I'm a big Paul Williams fan but the man got dominated. I've heard the argument made that a fight appears differently in person than on television but Harold Lederman and the HBO announce team were there in person. Terrible scorecards happen way too often in this sport. And yet people like Gale Van Hoy are still judging fights.

This was a relatively easy win for Bute. I believe Mendy was his mandatory title defense. As for his next opponent being the winner of Hopkins/Dawson, I think he'll more than likely be fighting the winner of Froch/Ward. Neither Froch nor Ward can stake that claim as best Super Middleweight in the world without fighting Bute. And since Bute has a multi-fight deal with Showtime, the creators of the Super Six tournament, it makes sense that he'll face the winner of Froch/ Ward either later this year or early 2012.

Amir Khan put on one hell of a performance tonight and regardless of the controversy at the end I believe he is the best at his weight in the world right now. Eat your heart out Timothy Bradley. Zab Judah is very good and Amir treated him like a bitch tonight and I think he will do the same to Bradley when that fight goes down, if it does. I also really hope that Amir vs. Mayweather happens down the line. I actually would be more interested in seeing that fight then one with Manny, but that is just my own personal feelings. But tonight Amir Khan made me a big fan of his, great performance.
