CIUDAD JUAREZ, Mexico – Mexico's powerful drug cartels have been operating drug rehabilitation clinics, turning some into bloody killing fields and forcing recovering addicts into their ranks of hit men and smugglers.

At least two of the country's six major drug cartels have used treatment facilities to further their trade, top Mexican law enforcement officials told The Associated Press in exclusive interviews. One group even opened its own centers where they brainwashed addicts during rehabilitation, offering them an ultimatum once they kicked their habits: work for us or we'll kill you.

Well. Isn't this free enterprise at its best?

Prima: Hmmm...What to do about all these drug addicts.

Secunda: Well, we could make them work for us.

Prima:
Don't be stupid. They'd use up all of our cocaine.

Secunda: But they're already involved in the drug world!

Prima: Ahah! Let's take over a drug clinic, help them kick the habit, then kill them if they don't work for us!

Secunda:
Prima, I knew there was a reason why I talked about philosophical quandaries with you.

So. Our wonderful Drug Cartels in Mexico were faced with a problem. How do we get more recruits? Well, they figured it out. Take over a rehab clinic, help the people kick their habit, and threaten to kill them if they don't work for you afterward.

This is really, really awful. I may make light of it, but that's me being a smartass in the face of horrible, horrible news. I do it all the time. Don't be surprised if I crack a joke or laugh when you tell me a relative died.

This, to me, is just an extension of how bad things have gotten in Mexico. The Mexican Government has been reduced to focusing troops in road blocks around tourist zones, so that the tourists don't get shot up by Drug Dealers. Some cities are still seeing upwards of 15 beheaded people on the side of the road when they wake up in the morning. The Mexican President has to go through and cleanse the police department of towns every few months to make sure none of them have been bought off. A few months ago there was a stand off between Mexican Military and a small town's police force...because the drug cartels still controlled the town's police.

Now not even the rehab clinics are safe. The drug cartels have literally pervaded every aspect of life in Mexico, and are spreading into the United States. Don't make any qualms about it, a rehab center in El Paso, Texas has seen 41 people die because of drug cartel related violence. This, my friends, is bullshit.

We should make a stand. No, not ourselves. We could never develop such coordination. Send down the National Guard. The Texas/California/New Mexico/Other Border States I can't remember State Guard. Have them man the borders and immediately clear any violence along the borders. Have Immigration investigate any instances of violence that seems to be even remotely drug related, and catalog the findings.

Then, when we have a case for the Drug Cartels fucking our shit up in the Southern United States, we go to Congress. Say "Hey, these Cartels are fucking shit up." Then, when we have Congress' backing, turn to Mexico and say "Yo guys, we'll clean this up if you can't."

It'll only be a matter of time before we get involved anyway. We can't continue to turn a blind eye to this shit that is ravaging Mexico. The drug cartels basically own Mexico. Not "they have a lot of power," but "They own the police in multiple cities, and they have enough men and firepower to get into repeated skirmishes with the Mexican Military."

I say we get on this now. If we can act like the world police for Iraq, then why not go into Mexico and fight a threat that is actually there? Afghanistan is a worthy cause, sure. However, Mexico is much more pressing. This country is literally bordering us. We share a common border. Drug cartels are moving across our border regularly to send drugs, women, guns, and to recruit for their cartels.

I believe this threat must cease to be now, and we are the ones that will have to stop it. What do you think? Am I blowing smoke, am I making shit up, or am I being a massive hypocrite? Stake your claim.
