No, Not the football coach. The race car driver. He's on the cusp of bieng one of the greatest Nascar drivers of all time. This sunday he'll likely win his third straight Nascar Sprint Cup title. He'll only be the second man to do this. (The first to do it was Cale Yarborough about 30 years ago) He has 40 Sprint cup wins and is a true example of the American dream. He was born El Cajon California , living in a small trailer. His Mother was a school bus driver and his Father was a machine shop worker. At age 5 he started riding dirt bikes. At around age 8 he started racing dirt bikes. At age 12 he broke his leg and had to prematurely retire from dirt bike racing. After this he raced off road trucks for a while until he got signed by a racing team in Nascars developmental system. He won 1 race in the Nationwide series and then he started getting calls from owners in the Sprint series. He eventualy signed with Hendrick Motorsports and he's been a phenomanom since then. He's been racing about 8 years and has 40 wins. He has the best winning percentage out of any active driver and is a first ballot hall of famer.
Despite all of this the media is relluctant to give him much coverage. This boggles my mind seeing that this is just a great story. I'm not a real big racing fan but i used to be when i was younger. Jimmie Johnson has been my favorite since he started racing when i was about 10 years old. I'm quite proud of what he's done but i think he should get more recognition for it.
What do you think about Nascars "Great One " ?
