Jason Heyward: The Next Big Thing

BooCocky

On A Nature walk with Daniel Bryan
For anyone who doesnt know Heyward is 20 yrs old and is the starting Right Fielder for the Braves.

He began his pro career at the age of 17 and climbed up the farm ranks. He is batting .300, has a .615 BA with runners in scoring position. He had 16 RBI's through his first 13 games. Second player to do that behind Ted Williams.

So, can Heyward be the next big thing in baseball? He is a physical specimen, he's tall, has power, can hit for average and is pretty much the best player on that team at the moment. He's been compared to Ted Williams and thats a solid comparison, both started there careers at a young age. Both started off hot. So by looking at Heyward, does he have the potential to be the next best thing in MLB? I think so, he has the right coaches, right players, his heads on straight and he's taking nothing for granted.

Do you believe he has the potential? Or is he going to fall off the face of this earth? Comparable to Jose Reyes...

Jason Heyward is a terrific young talent and I do believe he is a future star, hell maybe not so future. He has a great mix of speed and power not to mention he is a solid fielder. The Braves really lucked out on getting this guy. He has all the tools to be great but it is all up to him and his dedication to the sport, which at the moment looks to be good. It is a little early to say how his career will turn out and if he will someday be in the 700 club or anything like that but we can speculate and personally at his age and with his skills I think it is a great possibility that he may someday have his name alongside Mays, Ruth and Bonds.

Well I've gotten my first real look at him the past few days since the Braves had a series with the Cardinals, and I'd have to say he did impress me for how young he is. I really hope he doesn't fall of the face of the Earth, I think he could end up like Ken Griffey Jr. a great player but with a hitch, not necessarily with injuries but something that keeps him from reaching his full potential. We can only wait and see.

Heyward has the potential to be an ARod/Pujols type of player, no question. He's very young, very raw. He's already slumped at times, but has broken out of them for the most part. Very streaky player, and he must be able to counter to the adjustments made by Major League pitchers. If he can continue to grow and do that he'll have a long and productive career because the tools are certainly in place. Good timing for him to break onto the scene, with Chipper and his iconic following needing another franchise stall-wort to emotionally latch to for the near future.
