Well I for one have decided that I don't really like Alberto Del Rio. At least not yet, or at least, not to the extent that many guys on here do. I get the whole concept of heel psychology, I really do. I have been watching wrestling for a long time so I don't need anyone to come on here and explain to me that you are supposed to boo him, which makes him an effective heel, or that the entrance, the wink, etc., are typically heel trademarks. I get it.
But he's been in WWE for less than a year. I don't care how long he's been wrestling in Mexico or anywhere else for that matter, or what his pre-WWE credentials are, he's a rookie in the WWE world. And I simply don't think this rookie has proven himself enough, yet, to earn the type of praise he receives on these forums.
I'm not suggesting he be future endeavored. I don't feel that he won't be a big deal down the road. But what happened to paying your dues? What happened to earning your position in the big leagues, rather than just having it handed to you? They tried to anoint Drew McIntyre in this fashion, or Swagger for that matter, and we saw how that went. Why replicate your past errors?
As I said in an earlier thread, I've been reading for years that John Morrison is "not ready," whatever the he'll that even means. Despite being in WWE for years and having achieved a lot while there, people continue to say he isn't ready to be in the main event. Meanwhile along comes ADR, who isn't as good in the ring as JoMo is and who has an effective but stereotypical and redundant schtick, and people want him to win the Royal Rumble, to main event Wrestlemania 27, and to becoming a major title holder in 2011. Seems inconsistent to me.
I say keep ADR right where he is. Let him have a good showing in the RR. Keep him involved in interesting feuds throughout the year. And if he does all of this and is still all that at year end, then give him a push. But let's not push him to the moon quite yet. He hasn't earned it yet, and hasn't shown he is capable of pulling it off. Which I, for one, don't think he's able to do.
If you can be a draw and be successful within a year, then paying your dues and earning your position is irrelevant in the wrestling world.
Tell that to Bill Goldberg. All due respect, I have to disagree. Paying your dues and earning your spot should always matter.
