Except it was nothing like a fight between King Kong and Godzilla.
That "Showdown" between Kane and Big Show barely lasted a few minutes and wasn't even really entertaining. Apart from this, I pretty much enjoyed all of Smackdown. Like I say, pretty much all of it. Anyways, let's look at how it all unfolded as a show.
Edge, Drew McIntyre, Del Rio & Christian
The opening segment, pretty simple and classic.
Man cuts a Promo and gets attacked randomly by another Man. General Manager appears, pleased, because he is now able to make a match.
I like Edge and I like Drew McIntyre, so I enjoyed the match. It was interesting to see Edge stop his own pin on McIntyre, then go and use a Sharpshooter-type Submission on him to get the win. Obviously, that's to put a warning out to Alberto Del Rio, getting him to watch out in their Wrestlemania Match, now they both have Submission Finishers. I'm gonna bunch this together with the fact that we got told Christian will be making a return to Smackdown next week. Good times, be nice to see Christian back after his time off. Then we had the Contract Signing which Teddy Long insisted will have "No Physical Contact". That lasted how long? Not very is your answer. There was an altercation between Edge and Del Rio, eventually leading to Christian coming out and getting involved. The first thing I thought when he came out was, "Has he died his hair?" He looked somehow different. Maybe it was just me, not too sure. Alberto Del Rio had blood on his shirt at the end of that Brawl, as Edge had his nose busted at one point. Overall, good ways to start and end Smackdown.
The Cody Rhodes Promo
I love this guy. Many don't. Jackiz didn't like his moles. But enough of that. Him coming out to Rey Mysterio's music was reminiscent of Punk doing the same with Jeff Hardy a few years back, but it was just as good. The crowd go crazy for Mysterio, until they figure it's Cody, with his music playing and taking of the Mysterio mask, to show off his own. That is possibly the only thing I don't like about him right now, that silly thing. Otherwise, he's all good. So he challenges Mysterio to a match at Wrestlemania, talking about how he will unmask Mysterio at Wrestlemania. Should be a pretty good match there, wouldn't be surprised if Rhodes attempted to unmask Rey at WM, with Sin Cara coming out to save him.
The Undertaker's Promo
Definitely the best part of the night. It was made by his new Entrance Theme. "Ain't No Grave" by Johnny Cash, is the tune of the WWE right now, no matter how good "Broken Dreams" is. It made me wish I was there on the night, to experience that entrance. Watching it on the Television just wasn't good enough for me. Anyways, 'Taker cuts a Promo, saying that HHH has said he knows how to beat The Undertaker. Undertaker says that he even the King of Kings cannot beat him, just ask the other 18 men. It's actually 17, even though he's 18-0, do the maths (Or see the end of this where I explain). Overall, it was a pretty good promo. It's nice when The Undertaker has Mic Time. He's not the best talker, but it's dark and creepy.
Really, apart from this, nothing else really made it any good. Jack Swagger vs JTG was technically the "Main Event" of matches, 'cos there wasn't any more to follow it. Like I said earlier, Kane vs Big Show wasn't anything special, apart from the possibility that MAYBE, Kane and Big Show are going to team up to take on The Corre, now that may be interesting, not the two of them against each other, which is boring. Overall, like I said, a hit and miss Smackdown, with both it's good and bad parts to it. Pretty much like all shows, Smackdown needs something special to give it that kick up the backside. Looking forward to Christians return next week, as well as some more continuation into Big Show/Kane/Corre and Cody/Rey.
Undertaker's WM Streak.
He said in his Promo, to ask "The other 18 Men". But after thinking it through, it has actually only been 17 that the Undertaker has fought at WM, so technically, HHH would only be able to ask 16 men.
Shawn Michaels and Kane have both been fought twice, which makes 4 WM's and 2 Men. Take the other 14 WM's, which makes 16 Men. However, at Wrestlemania 19 (XIX), 'Taker fought Big Show and A-Train, meaning that it is actually 17 Men. So what was said in that Promo was wrong. I'm not one to really usually pick out things like this, but the Streak may be 18-0, but he's not actually beat 18 different men, which would've made a difference if he had. Just something that actually interested me more than annoyed me.
