Is Teddy Long Versus John Laurinaitis a Possibility?

Dark Match Jobber
Think back to Wrestlemania 27 and Michael Cole vs. Jerry "The King" Lawler.

In my mind, this was, without doubt, the worst wrestling match I have ever seen.

However, this could be topped if Smackdown general manager Theodore Long and Raw counterpart John Laurinaitis meet in the squared circle on April 1.

It all began at the Elimination Chamber pay-per-view.

John Laurinaitis, flanked by David Otunga, came out about halfway through the PPV to announce the returns of Alberto Del Rio, Christian and Mark Henry.

During this 10-minute promo, the wrestlers came out in support for "Mr. Excitement" to be both the permanent manager of Monday Night Raw and Smackdown, much to the delight of Laurinaitis himself.

On the following night's Raw, an altercation between Teddy Long and Big Johnny regarding the previous night's developments led to a match between David Otunga and Ezekiel Jackson, with the respective brand's managers in their own wrestler's corner.

Despite it looking like a foregone conclusion as to who would win the match, former Nexus member Otunga pulled off a shock victory—and did so again in a rematch on Tuesday's Smackdown.

If you saw the ending to this week's live Smackdown, it seems more than likely that there will be a physical altercation between the two ageing managers at some point in the future to see who gets control over both shows.

Everyone is praying that it does not happen atWrestlemania 28.

Although a 10 or 14-man tag-team elimination match to see who takes control over both shows would be a far more suitable, more entertaining and more likely option, knowing the WWE, I would not rule out a one-on-one, winner-takes-all match between the two GMs.

An elimination match would give several mid-carders, such as Drew McIntyre, Christian, Dolph Ziggler and R-Truth, the chance to shine on the biggest stage of all.

However, this opportunity could be snatched from them if the top dogs in the WWE decide, for some bizarre reason, that a match between Long and Laurinaitis would be better.

Will a fight between these two take place at the show of shows?

I certainly, certainly hope not.

The way I see things, Laurinatis and Long will each assemble a team of four, or five to go at it at WrestleMania in a Winner Takes All match and one of them will gain control of both shows.

Laurinatis' team will probably get the win and Long will be off TV for a little while. Something will happen to bring Teddy Long back which will probably lead to a one on one match between Long and Laurinatis at Bragging Rights. Long will probably win that match and regain control of SmackDown.

I don't think it'll happen at Mania, but It's gonna happen eventually. I remember when Teddy Long faced Eric Bischoff in 2005. If they can do that, they can definitely do Long vs Laurinatis.

Hmmm I think its gonna be an 8 man tag match...

Christian
Del Rio
Henry
Otunga

vs
Zeke
???
???
???
Rey Mysterio

Its a good way to reintroduce rey mysterio as well. And he could work on another feud with Del Rio because both of them put on good matches.

I Really hope it is a 12 man elimination tag match with each manager in their respective teams corner in a winner takes all match! But if they do a 10+ tag match it will probably rule out the MITB match as most of talent for that match will be used in the tag match :P

I've read some reports that MITB is out at Mania this year and the rumors are that its so they can have an 8 or 10 man tag match at Mania between Johnny's heel team vs Teddy's face team with the winner taking over as full time GM of both shows

Here is what I see happening,
Santino Marella or Drew McIntyre (Teddy Long) vs. David Otunga (John Lauranitis)

I see this happening for several reasons;

Look at Santino's rise since becoming assistant general manager on Smackdown. He almost won the Elimination Chamber, and has been on push a-mania since he was given this title.

The other choice to represent Teddy Long is Drew McIntyre because this may be the way to finally get him over as a face.

The opponent is obviously David Otunga. He had a clean victory over Big Zeke, to build him up to look like a real monster.

As stated here by a couple of people ... this is clearly moving into the you take your best guy available and I take my best guy available category.

I don't see Long getting in the ring ... and it is clear that they don't really want Johnny Ace in there either.

I would not be shocked if it ends up a team vs. team elimination challenge of some sort. But it would definitely be better if it ended up a singles match with a surprise entrant of some sort fighting for Long (like Rey Mysterio for instance).

The fact that they had the little stable come out and support JL though lends to the thought that both sides will gather supporters and then it will be a tag/elimination match of some sort.

That's probably what will happen

I just wonder how long Teddy Long will be off TV?

I'm guessing at WM it'll be:

Christian, Otunga, Del Rio, Henry vs Zeke, Mysterio, Santino Marrella and maybe Booker T (I don't watch SD enough to say how many Faces could be used in this to get behind Long)

I could easily see Booker T on Teddy's side since I feel like WM announcers will feature Cole, Lawler and Good ol Jim Ross

I'd hope it wouldn't. Actually I doubt it will, seeing as the WWE is making this a huge Wrestlemania. If the reports are true about not having a Divas match, this will not happen. It will be most likely a 5 on 5 elimination tag team match, where the winning GM gets control of both shows. But that's at least what we're all hoping for...

sorry wresltemania is too big of an event for a one on one match between mchytre/santino and otunga. The two of them are at the bottom of the midcard level and have no credbility or star power as strong player in the wwe. If it were something like mysterio vs del rio then it would work.

I prefer something like a survivor series elmination match 5 on 5.

well i see this happening!! I have read reports that MITB is out which is intersting.IMO Santino vs Otunga!! What a perfect way to get santino involved in WM hes hot right now like it or not the guy is extremely over with the crowd and people eat it up everytime hes out there. Otunga on the other hand is arrogant,a kiss ass to johnny ace and just plain annoying. So my opinion it will be Otunga representing Ace and Santino representing Teddy and the winning GM has control of both shows!!

No, we'll get a survivor series type of match. Laurinitis 5 vs Long 5 in a elimination tag match.

I wouldnt rule it out. WWE is a bunch of nutjobs when it comes to utilizing non-wrestling talent.

No.

WWE is into making this years wrestlemania one of the "best cards" that they can offer. Teddy Long vs John L. has no chance of happening BUT what will end up happening is Teddy Long with a group and Johnny Ace with a group to battle with winner getting control.

I agree with an 8 man match at WM28, winner take all style.

Team Lauranitis being what a previous poster had as:
Henry
Christian
Otunga
Del Rio

Team Teddy being:
Kahli
Zeke
Orton? maybe
and possibly Mysterio if he is back from injury.

If not then Santino,Justin Gabriel, or Drew McIntyre will probably fill whom evers shoes need be filled.

Teddy is not a wrestler. If you've seen him lately he isn't much of an entertainer either. His style is played out and I think he needs a character change or needs to be a behind the scenes employee.
