iPod/iPhone Application thread

Mr. TM

Throwing a tantrum
The emergence of the iPhone and the iPod have changed how we listen to music, and go about out day. Included with the iPhone and downloadable on the iPod were and are thousands of different applications. Now this thread is to talk about your favourite and most useful ones. I hope to discuss them with you all now, as some of them have become incredibly useful to me.

I will disclude some of the games that I enjoy, such as Pocket Tanks, Cribbage, and Risk, and talk about the ones that are more like tools.

Remote: The first one I want to talk about is named remote. What does this bad boy do? Well I will tell you. Ever chilling on the couch, listening to some music on your iTunes, while it plays away on shuffle. You have a great MGMT song playing along, or whatever you kids are listening to now a days. All of a sudden, the shuffle goes array and what comes on? Nickleback!? Now there is no way you want to listen to Nickleback. Who would? Well, without the discomfort of actually getting up off of the leather, and walking over to your desktop, you have you iPod, which, like magic, has turned into a remote control, enabling you to easily hit next, and listen to some good old Kings of Leon.

GuitarChords: I bet you can all guess what this does... it is an application where you put pants on a guitar... No wait. That would be pointless, like the Do not press application. The GuitarChords application is an application that easily shows you the positioning of all the chords on a guitar. This summer, while learning some new chords on the ol' 6 string, I disliked the fact that I had to look the up on my computer. So I thought to myself. Hey, I bet my iPod can help me out! And it did. Ever wonder what a A#Bb m(maj7) chord looks like? I know. So for all of you who want to play some Guitar, and have an iPod/iPhone, this is an application to get!

I have an iPhone and I do enjoy the "Remote" Application. I mean really, its quite a lazy way to go about something, but it is great. The only problem is, it only works if you're on a wireless network. If your computer is not hooked up that way, it doesnt work obviously.

What do you have in terms of games TM?

Well the games I usually play are Cribbage lite, Pocket Tanks Lite, Conquest Lite, as well as Civ Rev Lite. What do you get in terms of games on the iPhone? I beleive you get a lot of applications free, but how many? With the iPod we get very limited. I have no jail broken mine yet, and I am not sure exactly how.

Yeah I think it's too risky to do so, unless you can get someone who is proficient at doing it. I haven't bothered. I pretty much only bother with free games, but not with LITE versions. I mean you only get the first few levels anyways, so whats the point.

If you're looking for games, I would suggest Topple, Trace and Tap Tap Revenge 2. All very good games and all free. Trace is sort of like Draw Play is you've ever played that. In terms of applications, I dont have many. Myspace or Facebook, and eBuddy, which is an excellent Instant messenger client. Stanza is also good for a mini library on your phone.

I have to bump this thread for a very important reason. I recently downloaded my favourite app I think I have ever used. You all probably know about JustinTV, and how wonderful of a website that can be. Well, if you had ever tried to watch streams on it, you soon realize that the iPod did not allow it. But that has all changed now as the website released their own application for the iPod where you can stream any video that is currently playing on the site.

Think about this, you are sitting in church, and you have heard this same old story too many times? Well now you have Raw from 1999 right on your ipod. I was waiting for my bus yesterday and I got to watch some baseball, so I thought that was pretty cool. I recommend it. One downfall is, it doesn't sort by category it seems like the site does itself.

I'm going to bump this as well.

I've been downloading a lot of Music applications on my iPhone recently and want to tell you about them.

The first is called Wivi Band. It's an app that uses modeling technology instead of sampling technology to emulate the instrument. As you blow in your microphone on your iphone the instrument actually plays exactly how the instrument would play in real life. It's an amazingly cool app.

The next one I use is called JR (Jordan Rudess) Hexatone program. Basically its a custom made Jordan Rudess Arpeggiator program which is really fun to use.

For navigation I use MobilNavigator(note: I didn't actually purchase this app because my iphone is jailbroken. Plus the app costs 89USD). This app has been rated the best nav app on pretty much every techie blog on the net.

One App that I'm really fond of is the Shazam app.
Say one day your sitting in the car going to a friends house. You've got the radio on. This song comes up. Its a really good song but you didnt catch the name of it. Not to worry just open the Shazam app, Put your Ipod/Iphone Microphone near the speaker and Shazam will listen to 10 seconds of the song and come back with the name of it.

I'ma bump this myself. I got two paid apps for ya. First is the Clock Radio app. You can cycle through various stations of almost ANY genre you can think of, make a playlist and play it right there from the songs on your iPod. And of course set an alarm and whatnot. It cost 0.99 cents. The other is a game called Doodle Jump. You just tilt the iPod to the left and right to control the guys movements. tap the screen to shoot. It's a cute, very addicting little game. 0.99 cents as well.

Ok now it's bumped I'll post mine, btw jailkbreaking tbh is quite easy and doesnt require as much effort as it used to. Now since I've jailbroken I use mxtube quite frequently as it lets me download youtube vids straight to my ipod in one app.
