Improving the WWE Tag Team Division

If this was two years ago, I'd totally go for Sheamus and Drew, they actually already had a fan name, 'The Celtic Connection'. But sadly Drew hasn't progressed what-so-ever and Sheamus is one of the corner stones of the WWE at the moment, so there's no real connection left any more.

I also don't like the ideas of pairing people up just because they both come from the same area. I'd much rather have a mix-mash of different wrestlers. I also don't like ethnic gimmicks which they are BOUND to have. They just seem racially insensitive. The sooner WWE stops using 'foreigner' gimmicks the better.

And David Otunga? HEEEEELL NO!

No my contributions might be a little different. I think there are plenty of tag teams at the moment and I hate the fact that every new one they debut automatically become number one contenders after one match.

"What's that, they're in experienced as a tag team... Let's strap them!"

My teams:

Brodus Clay and Percy Watson, the Brothers of Funk. Because I REALLY want Percy to move up, he's been busting his hump for ages.

Brad Maddox and Tensai, classic muscle and voice pairing. Definitely unlikely, but they can have some funny backstage moments.

Conner O'Brian and anyone, mainly because he was finally on his way to the big show and his partner messed it up for him, it just doesn't seem fair...

There are several tag teams in the WWE right now, but I don't think there needs to be more teams per say. Maybe one or two and I'm okay with two single stars put together, but maybe there can be two tag matches involving these teams per show or at least on SmackDown as it is the more wrestling show of the two.

Matching attire, more promos. Not so much longer promos, but multiple chances for teams to talk for even a minute or so each week. The tag team division isn't anywhere close to what it used to be, but it can be salvaged and so far this year, it's on quite a nice pace. Just use the current talent on the roster. There are a ton of new faces from NXT up as it is. Too many new faces at once, which the WWE is currently on the verge of, and someone will just get lost in the shuffle.

JTG isn't doing anything. Team him with Truth and have a Cryme Tyme 2.0 or something. Put DiBiase with Riley or Mason Ryan to be his muscle and have a new Money Inc of sorts. The tag division could be the last resort if need be for lower cards who can't or won't ever reach the mid card again or even main event. I'm okay with that as long as the tag division is still around. Matches involving more than 2 teams are always amusing to some degree.

The Tag Team Division is super important however Vince wants instant gratification and he's trying to make a superstar overnight. There is nothing wrong with partners just being thrown together or forming naturally.

Look back and look at some of the great single wrestlers who were stuck in tag teams for the start of their career; The Rockers, Hennig & Hall, Hart Foundations, Beer Money, The Dudleys, Edge & Christian, The Hardys, Harleem Heat, The Stiener Brothers, The Bulldogs, The Freebirds, Miz & Morrosin, Hawkins & Ryder, the Hollywood Blondes.

It didn't matter if they formed naturally or were thrown together by a promoter. The only thing that mattered was they got on TV and won titles which built a foundation for future success.

WWE has made a lot of progress in the last year to rebuild the tag team division. They just have to continue and not do anything to mess it up, like putting a tag team against John Cena in yet another "Can Cena overcome the odds?" scenario.

One thing that would be a great idea IMO is to put either Harper/Rowan or Tac & Judas Devlin together and build them as Monster Heels like the RoadWarriors. Hell have them Feud with Cena but instead of Cena overcoming the odds and beat two guys he fails and has to go grab a partner to get his revenge.

Ezekiel Jackson & Mason Ryan - Two powerhouses who aren't doing anything at the moment.

The Miz & Alex Riley - The two former friends should reunite as faces.

Curt Hawkins & Zack Ryder - Hawkins should turn face and reunited with Ryder. If neither of them are going to get a serious singles push, then they should be put in the tag division.

Alberto Del Rio & Ricardo Rodriguez - Ricardo needs to be wrestling already. He can do his own introduction before segueing into the normal Del Rio introduction.

The Kings of Wrestling - They don't have to necessarily be thrust into the tag division right away. Just maybe have Kassius debut by interfering in Cesaro's matches and helping him retain the U.S. Title.

Johnny Curtis & Derrick Bateman - These two guys are too funny and too entertaining to not have them on TV right now.

I would also pair John Cena & Randy Orton together as a mega star team. Just keep them from being too over powered and don't have them run everyone over. Just use their star power to give the tag division a rub.

The New Age Outlaws seem to be headed for a min-revival, this is a pretty good start and realistically if Shelton is coming back then they can do far worse than bring Charlie back too.

With Ohno and Cesaro, they could easily do a "best tag teams of their generation" type angle, with the Outlaws, WGTT and Kings Of Wrestling all facing off. Or even a KOTR style tag tourney (hence Cesaro/Ohno getting "their name back".)

What the division is missing is marquee names, so those 2 teams would suffice, IF the Hardyz came back that might also fill the void but failing that, as Miz is still stuck in interviewer hell, why not bring Morrison back and have them run for a bit?

Hell No and Rhodes Scholars are clearly short term solutions, the Outlaws are a perfect team to dethrone them at Mania and kickstart the push for the division.

I think the WWE has made definite strides in making that tag division decent again. I am not a fan of thrown together teams, but sometimes in doing that you come across something good like Kane and DB. I would not randomly pair any of the current stars, but they have a few built in teams already there. I am a huge fan of putting Hawkins and Ryder together again, and they should also pair The Kings of Wrestling. If they are going to sign Shelton Benjamin and use him as a guy to put people over then why not just sign Haas to, and they have another great tag team right there. Lastly they just signed Billy Gunn so the New Age Outlaws could reform for a while just to give some of the younger teams the rub from working with and beating them. With the teams I have just mentioned I think that would be enough to really give the division that last little bit of talent they need to make the division stand out.

Before the WWE even thinks about bringing in any new teams, they seriously need to work on their real tag teams like The Usos, International Airstrike, PTP, Epico & Primo etc. Right now none of them look important because they barely get any TV time, they don't have any storylines or feuds of their own, the WWE haven't given us any reason to care about them because they're putting all of their energy & focus on their thrown together teams and relying on them to carry the division. Team Hell No, Car Stereo and Rhodes Scholars aren't gonna last very long and if they want a future for their tag team division, they better start making Usos, IA, PTP, E&P relevant so they can carry the division and make us still care about it once those guys split up, and maybe then they won't need to randomly pair up any two guys anymore. I really don't wanna see the tag division head in the same direction as the divas division.

As for new teams or old teams they can bring in, I'd love to see the New Age Outlaws return to help put over younger teams. NAO are one of my fave tag teams of all time and PTP are my current favourite tag team in WWE right now, I'd love to see NAO feud with PTP. KOW is another awesome tag team I'd love to see the WWE bring back. I would say the same for WGTT but after all the shit that Charlie Haas has said about the WWE, I doubt they will bring him in nor do I think he'd want to go back. Maybe they could pair Shelton with Jack Swagger as a new WGTT like Mighty NorCal mentioned in another thread. Air-Boom should reunite if they ever bring back Evan Bourne, I just don't see Kofi ever going past the mid-card and I think he's a much better tag team wrestler than a singles wrestler. I'd be all for Curt Hawkins & Zack Ryder reuniting since they ain't doing nothing right now and I think they would be a really popular tag team this time off of the whole Z! True Long Island Story buzz, which they could present together. Some other teams that come to mind are Alex Riley & David Otunga as a new Varsity Club tag team and Ted Dibiase Jr. & Michael McGillicutty as the new Fortunate Sons.

Tag team matches are always the thrilling and interesting. It should try to involve more tag teams. There are very famous and successful tag teams over the years who has perform well.WWE is going on the right way by improving the tag team division.

I think that the WWE has made excellent progress over the course of the past 4 months or so. Tag team wrestling feels relevant in WWE again, which is something that it hasn't been for many years all in all.

I do think that it's important, however, that people not get ahead of themselves. I read a post a few minutes ago in which someone said that Vince McMahon wants "instant gratification". Yeah...I think that it's more the IWC as a whole that wants instant gratification. After all, it's mostly internet fans that complain whenever something doesn't happen quickly enough for them or doesn't happen EXACTLY the way they believe it should. I'm not saying that Vince doesn't get impatient sometimes, everyone does after all, but he's someone that's had to be patient. If Vince wasn't patient and didn't give things time, then WWE would've never been more than a regional territory.

A few more tag teams wouldn't hurt, but what WWE needs more than anything else is more focus on some of the other tag teams they currently have. Team Hell No, Team Rhodes Scholars, Mysterio & Sin Cara and the Prime Time Players are the teams that the tag team division has been built around thus far. In recent weeks, it looks as though WWE might be starting to do things with The Usos as they've been booked pretty strongly. Tyson Kidd & Justin Gabriel are flat out fun to watch in the ring and had a really good match on Main Event last night. 3MB is a team that has talent. I'm not all that crazy about the 3MB gimmick, but I will say that all three of them are working hard. Their characters are annoying as crap and they get pretty decent heat.

The tag team division is never going to be "perfect". No tag team division is ever going to be "perfect" as there are always going to be things that some people believe could be done to improve things.

23 new tag teams would definitely turn the division right around. Or not. They have a good start with what they have now. They're giving them time which is the most important thing. A few things though:

-There needs to be a new face team elevated. With Sin Cara injured again and Team Hell No tied up with the Shield, I think they need a new face team. I like the Usos, but I don't think it's them.

-Take the belts off of Team Hell No. I'm not saying break them up because they're way over. However, I think they're too above the rest of the teams they currently have. Have The Shield cost them the belts. Once they finish with them, they can go back after their belts.

-The New Age Outlaws. I'm hoping them beating Rhodes Scholars at MSG was a feel-good moment and not a sign of things to come. They should be there to put talent over. Let them have a win over Epico/Primo if you must.

I think they are doing a great job with the tag team scene right now. Kane/Bryan, Sin Cara/Mysterio, Rhodes Scholars and Prime Time Players have been great to go along with Epico/Primo, Usos, and Gabriel/Kidd. You throw in The Shield and right now we don't need no new teams at this point.

I'm loving the potential of the tag team division right now! I'm really enjoying several teams at the moment, and feel that a few others have great potential to rise through the ranks of the division very soon.

I think the WWE should continue at pace with the tag teams they have, but should not be afraid to throw some other guys together to form some new teams and see if any of them stick. Basically what I'm saying is any guys with potential who aren't working any current program, or aren't really working at all, should be paired up with some other guys and given a little TV time. It's not hard to believe from a story line or fan perspective to believe that guys in the back who aren't doing much may reach out to one another to tag together.

I will list the current tag teams already in WWE that I'm a fan of in a minute, but I also have a couple teams I'm looking to see form or reform and enter the WWE tag division.

I'm a fan of the roster on NXT and most of their matches are fairly entertaining. One tag team I was really enjoying was The Ascension. I liked their dark gothic-like gimmick and scary music and entrance. However, Kenneth Cameron got into some trouble and was released, leaving Connor O'Brian without a partner. I really think WWE, if they aren't interested in bringing back Cameron, should find someone else to take his spot and attempt to keep the tag team moving. I thought the look and gimmick of the team was great, not original by any means, but something different compared to other teams currently.

Another team I would like to see form is Curt Hawkins and Trent Barretta. They are already friends in real life and would probably have some decent chemistry because of it. I would like to see them form and mix some things from their two previous teams. (Hawkins and Reks / Dude Busters Barretta & Cayden Cross) I could see them playing a "dude" team that starts off as heels but could have the potential to turn into a comedy face team down the road. They could play the "cool dude" rolls and wear neon colors and the neon sunglasses and whatever. So basically, I'm looking to see Dude Buster 2.0 or something, just with Hawkins this time around.

Current WWE tag teams I'm loving
--------------------------------
Team Hell No
Rhodes Scholars
The Shield
Primetime Players
International Airstrike

------------------------------------------------------------------------
Team CoBro (Santino & Ryder)
