"Breaking Barriers"

2012 was a year of change in Total Nonstop Action, after years of pushing older, more established talent ahead of homegrown, younger stars, Bobby Roode, James Storm and Austin Aries broke into the main event scene and carried the company. While critics and experts loved the new era it didn't translate at the box office or with television ratings. Impact ratings stayed the same where pay per views buys and house show attendance dropped. T.N.A.'s parent company, Panda Energy, saw the writing on the wall, with television partner, SpikeTV losing interest and showing more concern over Bellator Fighting and their contract running out at the end of 2013, they knew this was time to get out of the promotion. They started making inquiries about selling the company but not surprisingly didn't find many takers.

This all changed when an offer from an unlikely source came through in the form of LiveNation. The multi-billion dollar empire purchased the company for a mere three million dollars in October of 2012, just days after Bound For Glory. This news put the wrestling world on it's ear as many wondered what the company could now do with the backing of the biggest entertainment promoter in the world. LiveNation which promotes events in over fifty seven countries plans on making the promotion a true world wide company. Many insiders wonder what effect this will have on the W.W.E. with possibly LiveNation ceasing to sell their event tickets on Ticketmaster and blocking W.W.E. from arenas who also book many LiveNation concerts and events.

While they know everything there is to know about promoting, LiveNation knew they didn't no much about the inner working of a professional wrestling business and went out to interview some of the industry biggest names. Eric Bischoff, Paul Heyman, Jim Cornette and Gabe Sabolsky all interviewed with the company for the job of being T.N.A. President but none of them come across as the game changing mind that LiveNation imagined plus that all of them couldn't rival Vince McMahon. They then switched gears and started searching for the next big mind and interviewd Don Callis, Kevin Nash, Stevie Richards and Scott Levy and still they didn't find what they were looking for. Then they got a phone call and found their man, a man that had one of the most creative minds in the business and one that saw what a company like LiveNation could do for him and his career, that man was Chris Jericho.

Chris Jericho signed on as the new president of T.N.A. as well as an artist contract with LiveNation's record label for his group, Fozzy. Jericho agreed to a contract that will let him run the wrestling side business along with his best friend, Lance Storm and tour with his band on a LiveNation music festival events. LiveNation sent out a marketing team to see what kind of reaction they would get from fans about the possible addition of Chris Jericho and when it came back at about 94 percent positive, they deal was struck.

Chris Jericho was full of ideas and the first order of business was getting rid of the T.N.A. name and just go with Impact Wrestling. He found Impact Wrestling as more marketable and steps the company away from it's ill-fated past. The second order of business was getting it out of the Impact Zone and that was no problem as LiveNation booked them on a year-long live tour across the world. The third order of business was working on the day to day wrestling situation from the roster all the way to agents, Jericho knew he had to change the whole attitude of the company and anybody was expendable.

Jericho reshaped the backstage of Impact Wrestling as Bruce Prichard and Eric Bischoff was released and was replaced with Scott D'Amore and Lance Storm. The future of Hulk Hogan is still uncertain as LiveNation sees him at least as a marketable name for other events for the company. Jericho, D'Amore and Storm started sorting through contracts, releasing some talent, signing some new ones before finally coming up with a new roster, one that has been kept secret from the general public although there has been numerous rumors as the group has searched the world for the best talent.

On December 7th,it was announced that Impact Wrestling will re-open it's doors on January 3rd, 2013 and usher in the New Year with a two night event that will see the crownings of the first ever Impact Heavyweight Champion, Television Champion, X-Division Champion, Knockouts Champion and Tag Team Champions as well as the announcement on who will be the new Impact General Manager. It will certainly be a historic date.

While seven choices wasn't a surprise as them being main players in the old T.N.A. the signing of Bobby Lashley was one too many. Lashley later tweeted during the day that he was retired from M.M.A. since he has been unable to secure a contract with U.F.C. and will be one hundred percent loyal to Impact Wrestling, something that he wasn't in his first T.N.A. run.

Jericho told fans that soon other superstars will be announced for 4 Team Elimination Tag Match also for the 1/3/13 debut episode.

Very interesting. This is the first plan I've ever read that "realistically" could elevate TNA into competition with the E. I'll be following this for sure.

Today on Impact Wrestling official website, Chris Jericho announced the four teams that vie for the Impact World Tag Team Titles in a elimination style match. The four teams are the following

Kazarian.jpg

Robbie_E.jpg
Jessie_Godderz.jpg

Fans were buzzing with the naming of two TNA tag teams as Bad Influence and Motor City Machine Guns stayed with the company. Many fans are intrigued by the duo of Douglas Williams and Harry Smith, as the two could be sleepers but most fans are writing off the duo of Robbie E and Jessie G as a comedic team and doesn't deserve the spot in the match. Shocking by the absence in the the last TNA tag team champions, Chavo Guerrero and Hernandez, with many wondering if they were released.

Chris Jericho stated that the next thing announced will be the six men Ultimate X match to be held January, 4th, 2013.

I'm usually not a huge fan of these 'reboot' kind of projects but I will give props to you and say you have caught my eye with an imaginative and most importantly a realistic back-story. Nothing grinds my gears more than somebody trying to change TNA through a slew of new signings and basically making drastic changes that aren't even feasibly possible. I dislike the idea of Y2J coming in since I imagine he's still actually involved with WWE and I personally wouldn't turn down the idea of guys like Scott Levy getting involved creatively.

Of course though I can see the appeal of Jericho but I hope it doesn't turn into Impact Wrestling is Jericho.

When I first read the lines about TNA going out of business, I rolled my eyes and cringed, as these types of things usually end poorly. That being said, your idea is really interesting, and definitely something I've never even heard of or thought of before. You really went out there for some out-of-left-field ideas, and have created one of the only realistic "TNA Reboot" scenarios I think I could ever buy into.

One word of caution: Chris Jericho is awesome. He's one of my all-time favorites. Lance Storm is a wrestling genius. I think this goes without saying, but it's even more important that your booking makes sense, because those two wouldn't mess around given the opportunity. Two of the best minds in the world for the industry; trying to emulate them is going to be a tough task that I hope you're up for. Good luck!

The fans' reactions to these names were overwhelming as many were saying it was the perfect mixture of X-Division veterans and new stars. The surprise was the signing of Kazuchika Okada, who became one of New Japan's biggest star but was stole away after becoming a free agent. Also fans have rejoiced that the final X-Division champion, Rob Van Dam wasn't included.

In other news, Twitter was abuzz when two wrestling legends were talking about possibly being on Impact as Adam Copleand (Edge) and Hulk Hogan drops hints about appearing. Also it is said that Jericho has narrowed his choices to commentators as Arda Ocal, Todd Keneley, Stevie Richards, Scott Levy and Mauro Ranallo. Finally, Billy Corgan has been hired to a vice president role in the company as he will fill the position vacated by Eric Bischoff.

The choices of the Knockouts were something that fans couldn't argue with as all seven women announced was former Knockout Champions. The eighth woman mystery has led to much speculation as rumors have swirled about Amy Dumas, Beth Phoenix and even Chyna joining the company. The odds on favorite to win it so far overwhelming has been the returning Awesome Kong with Mickie James or Gail Kim as the other favorites.

In other news, Chris Jericho confirmed that Arda Ocal and Stevie Richards has been chosen as the announce team with Jeremy Borash, Christy Hemme, Brian Jossie and Barbie Blank filling various on-screen roles with the company.

An update of the hiring of Billy Corgan as a vice president is that during the summer, Impact Wrestling will be teamed up by LiveNation in a two night special event with a concert featuring Chris Jericho's Fozzy and Corgan's Smashing Pumpkins. They hope that this will really increase ticket sales as the two events will be packaged together with a special discount. Corgan's promotion, Resistance Pro, will also become the developmental company for Impact Wrestling replacing Ohio Valley Wrestling.

The final members of the roster will be announced as the competitors in the Television title battle royal later on today. The original plan was for the battle royal to be ten superstars but Jericho and Storm is looking to expand it to include some special one-time only superstars to create more excitement.

Impact Wrestling's News & Notes

From the Nassau Coliseum 1/3/2013

Making an Impact

The debut of Impact Wrestling reportedly raised over a million dollars for the Hurricane Sandy Relief. The figure was helped by a sizeable donation from Impact Wrestling's parent company, LiveNation but the arena was at capacity.

Kevin Steen makes a name for himself

Kevin Steen debuted on Impact Wrestling during Samoa Joe's interview and offered to have his back against Austin Aries and his friends. Steen though turned on Joe by hitting him with a steel chair and costing him his match in the world title tournament.

Who's the boss?

Chris Jericho announced his choice for Impact General Manager was down to three candidates and in the next three weeks each man will have their shot to run the show. Hulk ?Hogan, Adam Copleand and Sting all appeared in the ring to great fanfare and promised they will all try their best and give the crowd great shows.

Bobby Lashley is back

Nobody expected this side of Bobby Lashley even though he hired Brian Jossie as his manager. Lashely showed a vicious side as he reportedly broke the arm of Kurt Angle after Angle wouldn't submit to Boss Armbar. Lashley's aggresiveness though was his downfall in the second match as Storm side stepped a spear attempt on the outside as Lashley went face first into the announce table and was unable to get back to the ring in time as he was counted out and knocked out of the tournament.

Bad Influence Strikes

Jeff Hardy looked on his way to the tournament finals after his victory over Bully Ray in the first round but he was then attacked by Austin Aries, Daniels, Kazarian and Kevin Steen backstage. Chris Jericho wasn't happy and barred all of them from ringside during the finals against James Storm.

Bon Jovi a hit with the crowd

Some people worried about Bon Jovi and the mixture with wrestling but it get a solid feedback. Chris Jericho stated lately that a musical guest with be a special feature on some shows.

Velvet Sky stunned by Barbie

Howard Stern hosted the Knockout Bikini Contest and while each Knockout looked great in their bikins, Velvet Sky summoned the spirit of Sable and showed up in body paint to the wow of the crowd. She looked on her way to victory into Barbie Blank showed up and stole the show with appearance and was crowned the winner by Howard Stern.

Tag Team Turmoil

The elimination tag match was a great match as Robbie E and Jessie G shocked the world by winning the titles after eliminating Doug Williams and Harry Smith in the finals. The Motor City Machine Guns was the first team eliminated after Alex Shelley shocked the world and walked out on Chris Sabin in the middle of the match. Bad Influence was next out as Samoa Joe showed up and distracted Daniels as he got rolled up by Robbie E.

The champ is crowned

Austin Aries became the first ever Impact World Title after defeating James Storm in the finals. Aries showed that he will do anything to be the champion after picking up wins over Samoa Joe after interference from Steen and a forfeit from Hardy after he couldn't make it to the ring after a beatdown. James Storm came close to winning the title but came up short as Aries was able to catch a low blow after dodging the Last Call without the referee seeing it. You could see the annoyed look on Chris Jericho's face as he handed the title belt to Aries as he celebrated with the rest of Bad Influence.

WTF just happened?

The show ended as Chris Jericho left the arena and was nailed from behind by a man in a mask. The man ran off as Adam Copeland showed up to check on Chris Jericho.

Impact Wrestling's News & Notes

From the Nassau Coliseum 1/4/2013

Another Big Night for Relief

They announced tonight that the two shows have raised 1.5 million dollars for Hurricane Sandy victims through ticket sales, concessions and donations. Tonight's attendance is considerably less then Thursday night's show but it was expected because of it being a Friday and the absence of better known competitors.

Chris Jericho Wants Revenge

Chris Jericho opens the show and shows the clip of him being taken out last night to end the show by a masked attacker. Jericho challenges the man to show up at the show tonight.

X Marks The Spot

The match of the night was the Ultimate X ladder match for the X-Division Title. Each superstar showcased their abilities with newcomers, El Generico, Kenny Omega and Fergal Devitt all getting close chances at winning the title. The biggest pop of the night was for an electric chair off the ladder from Christian York that stopped Zema Ion from winning the title and the return of Petey Williams' Canadian Destroyer move when he planted A.J. Styles with during the match. In the end, Okada and Styles duked it out on top of the ladder before Okada spit a green mist into Styles' eyes to snag the title and becoming champion.

Hulk Hogan Taken Out

Hulk Hogan is shown showing up backstage to a good pop from the crowd but is nailed by a masked man with a tire iron to the knee. Hogan is down as security rushes in and chases the masked man off.

50 Cent Gets Short Changed By Jossie

Rapper 50 Cent, gave a solid performance during the night and even got into a backstage stand off with Brian Jossie after he interrupted 50's interview to offer his managerial services. Bobby Lashley showed up and had a stare down with 50's bodyguards before security showed up.

Beauties and the Beasts

The Knockouts was given a good amount of time and didn't disappoint as Mickie James and Gail Kim started it off and showed everybody what two good female wrestlers can do with James picking up the win. James was able to eliminate Angelina Love next before succumbing to the power of Awesome Kong. Kong went on to take out Tara, Brooke Tessenmacher and O.D.B. in dominating fashion and waited for the surprise entrant. The arrival of Beth Phoenix got a good pop from the crowd and defeated Kong with a bulldog off the ropes to become Knockout Champion.

Adam Copeland Taken Out

Chris Jericho is shown backstage in his office talking to Ric Flair about the general manager challenge. They talk about the condition of Hulk Hogan from the attack earlier and wonder where Adam Copeland is. They get a phone call and rush to somewhere backstage as we see Adam Copeland taken out as E.M.T.s check on his condition. Jericho is beside himself when a tire iron drops in front of him and we get a glimpse of the masked man in the rafters of the Nassau Coliseum.

Jersey Shore Partied It Up

The cast of The Jersey Shore was there minus Snooki and hosted the show. They threw a backstage celebration with the Impact Tag Team Champions, Robbie E and Jessie G. Throughout the night we saw a string of B-list celebrities show up like Ice-T, Coco, Maury Povich and Andrew Dice Clay to party the night away in New York.

Legends Come Up Short

Eight wrestling legends showed up to compete in the battle royal but none of them was able to regain past glory. Raven, Kevin Nash, Lance Storm, Rhino, Tommy Dreamer, Dustin Rhodes, Ken Shamrock and Vader all appeared to decent pops from the crowd and each had their moments in the match before getting eliminated.

Robbie T Puts On A Show

Robbie T came up short in the battle royal but put on a show eliminating half the field himself. Robbie T eliminated four legends (Kevin Nash, Rhino, Rhodes and Vader) along with taking out Joseph Parks, Hernandez, Eric Young, Joey Ryan, Gabe Tuft, Devon, Crimson and Luke Gallows. Robbie T's run was ended when Abyss entered the ring and eliminated himself and Robbie T with a lariat over the top rope.

The Honeymoon Is Over?

Eric Young didn't look too happy with the attention Joey Ryan got from his wife, O.D.B. after both men were eliminated by Rob Terry. Eric Young and Joey Ryan got into a shouting match before O.D.B. seperated both men.

Joe Gets Payback

Kevin Steen's chance to become T.V. champion was cut short when Samoa Joe appeared out of nowhere and threw him over the top rope. The two battled through the crowd in a great brawl.

A Television Star Is Born

The final six superstars left in the battle royal was D'Angelo Dinero, John Morrison, Brutus Magnus, Carly Colon, Antonio Banks and Chris Masters. The match went on for a little bit without eliminations before a chain of events cut it to two as Dinero was eliminated by Morrison after a distraction by Melina. Morrison went over the top also but skinned the cat to pull himself back up only to get knocked to the floor by Masters. Masters then was instantly knocked over the top when he turned around by a big boot from Magnus leaving Brutus and Antonio Banks as the final two. The crowd jeered as Brian Jossie came to ringside as they fought it out. Everybody was shocked when Jossie pulled down the top rope to help Brutus Magnus eliminate Banks to win the T.V. title.

Double Trouble

The show ends with Jericho in the ring challenging the masked man to reveal himself again. A video is then shown on the screen of the masked man in the parking lot beating up Ric Flair. Flair is all busted open as Jericho is beside himself. Then from behind Jericho another masked man appears and nails him from behind. Both men are chased off by security and sneak off as Flair and Jericho is both down and out.
