I Wish WSX Had Become Huge

I'd seen bits over the internet. But my tolerance of You Tube is limited. I can't watch hours or wrestling on a computer screen. But this week the first part of Wrestling Society X was released on DVD. By god it's awful. Horrible, edited, ridiculous matches. All made for children with little to no attention span, for fans of crap such as Meet The Spartans. But if any wrestling show was going to attract new fans. It would be that one. More wrestling fans, equal more popularity, equals another brand of wrestling. Non fans aren't intrested in the matches that WWE, TNA or ROH promote. They want to see stunts. Which is exactly what that show was about. I honestly think that if it had taken off, then it would have had more of a chance at becoming a serious number two promotion that TNA.

I'd love to have seen it go big, it had decent ratings, and it had a look of the original ECW, as well as finding its own little hook.(much like TNA, and ROH have)

I think the only reason they stopped making it, was because of the fire ball incident with vampiro and ricky banderas(judas meseis), if they had the balls to ignore the complaints, they got over that, they would be in a decent position now to challenge either TNA for 2nd or ROH for 3rd, they had a really good mix of talent as well, myself i only saw 3 shows but they showed alot of promise. MTV was stupid to give up on it really.

WSX was meant to be for the people who like spot monkeys. The only problem was that it was poorly made and looked too cartoonish. They had the talent, they had the indy names. The just had waaay too many gimmick matches. And it wasn't just gimmick matches, it was CORNY gimmick matches. Exploding this and electrified that. I think that, under different circumstances and on a different network that WSX could have made it. All of the people who crave those indy names and stars would have gotten their fix and people like me, who just love wrestling for the hell of it, would have had something different to look at and to TIVO instead of ECW.

I think in a different time period, that show would have succeeded. It was definitely a "90's" style show to me. And I don't mean it would have succeeded in the 90's just because of the wrestling boom. Everything in the 90's was about being "extreme" and pushing limits. I think that show could have done quite well being a lead-in for Jackass or something back in those days.

But in the times we're living in, it was too much. MTV pulled the plug because they were scared some little kid would imitate that fireball and they'd get sued again.

MTV's Wrestling Society X, which was booked by the legend Vampiro, was a very different and rather good wrestling organisation in my opinion.
The company had some great talent on the roster, for instance Vampiro, Banderas, Sean Waltman, Matt Sydal, Teddy Hart etc, and I agree that this company could have became big.
It surprises me that MTV cancelled the show due to Banderas blowing a fireball in Vampiro's face, which ended up setting Vampiro's hair on fire. The reason why it surprises me is because we see incidents of this standard, if not worse, on the MTV show Jackass, and Jackass was never cancelled for such reasons.
Apparently the MTV bosses were so disgusted and shocked after they witnessed the fireball scene that they immediately decided to prevent the show from releasing further seasons. Clearly this must then suggest that these bosses never watched Jackass or they simply hated wrestling and wanted some excuse to axe the show.

I personally believe Meet The Spartans was great. That's not what this is about though. It was doomed from the beginning. It was against ECW when it was still at least somewhhat extreme. Also, what was with the 10 minute time limit and the 30 minute time slot. It wasnt givin much to work with

I didnt particularly care for WSX. The 30 minutes was far too short for any kind of wrestling programme and the fact that they added in performances from live bands made it even worse.

The only good thing about it was that several talented young wrestlers were given a bit of national TV exposure which raised their profiles somewhat.

I guess you didn't see the on I saw at 2a.m. when Banderas 'shot' lightning out of his fingers that made his 'victim' convulse. Total crap. Great talent? Yes. They just didn't have the right idea to add Street Fighter to the mix. Hadoken!!!

wsx was amazin and was insane and launched matt sydals career aka evan bourne and ricky banderas aka judas mesias and colt cabana and many others it was amazing for the people who got it and they were gonna bring back new jack and add terry funk in season 2 that would have been great too bad if i had enough money i would start it up again! Everyone buy the wsx dvd a amazon.com or bigvisionentertainment.com and maybe wsx can come back like family guy did based on dvd sales! Go wsx!

WSX was crap. It was built for the mtv audience, not for those who latched on to wrestling in the 90s or even for grizzly old wrestler verterans who were around for the start of Hulkamania.

I would have liked it to be successful though, purely to give the WWe some competetion.TNA is trying too hard to be its younger brother nowadays, Ring Of Honor is too "indy"(i dont mean this in a bad way, it just doesnt have the name base to make mainstream America give a shit) to really class as a competetitor.

WSX could have been good and it was in places but they relied on the hardcore, spot fest image and went for the shock value. They did the right thing in trying to give a character to everyone and give each wrestler a unique identity.

If they had booked it as a proper wrestling and not a bad, car wreck of thirty minutes of TV it would have succeeded. I've seen all their episodes and internet shows and at times it was good. When Vampiro and Sean Waltman were actually wrestling it was quite good, but thirty minutes was too short.

WSX did have some good younger talent, but I watched it to laugh more than I did to see good wrestling. I mean, it was on MTV, what did you really expect? Their stuff like "Piranha Tanks" and the wrestlers electrocuting each other was so cheesy it was funny. My favorite WSX moment was when Vampiro tombstoned X-pac into a coffin and the entire ring blew up. I laughed so hard I cried when that happened.

IMO, anything with Disco Machine on it is a quick ticket to good entertainment value. That 70s Team was hilarious. As a worker on the Socal scene, I pride myself on the legacy that these guys paved in recent years, but when these guys hit WSX in a comedic role, it was golden. I'm right on the bandwagon with the idea that if it had become huge, it would have been great for the business. Its just another good paying job and helps expand the product to a larger demographic. It's a true shame MTV execs have no backbone...

Wrestling Society X was a double edged sword. It had some really good things going for it and it had some really bad things going for it. The worst thing going was that it was on MTV and for only half an hour per episode. What kind of build up is that? Most of the matches I saw were fantastic and really the kinds of things you saw in XPW when it was booked well. Yes, I said XPW as several members of the roster were from the ill fated XPW roster and I am sure that more were on the way. Need a monster character? You got Pogo The Clown. Need a Hardcore Legend? You have Supreme. It was there.

Too much music stuff and not enough wrestling. By the time you got to the matches and wrestling, there were only like twenty minutes left in the show. Oh, and for the love of God, please don't ever let Chris Kloss comentate another wrestling show, he is horrid. Was horrid in XPW and is horrid in the other side projects that Big Vision Entertainment has him doing. I tell you what, I have the Exit Sandman DVD from XPW and it is the best damn show they have out because of Joey Styles doing the commentary. I tell you, Vince can take the logic that announcers don't matter and stick it.

The things that WSX had going were the young talents it picked up. Look at it, just Matt Sydell and Teddy hart alone were amazing aquiries for the roster. Had some good old schoolers shot up to boot with Vampiro and X - Pac. If only MTV hadn't screwed that one up. I got the DVD set and really enjoy alot of the matches. Too bad it wont happen again. Hell, I'd even take XPW back if someone who knew what the hell they were doing could run the damn thing. ECW just doesn't come close to cutting it anymore.
