I Miss Abyss

Raven

Nevermore..
Ok so here me out, I'm a half fan of Joseph park, although all he does is get beat up. Well I just got to thinking, I know they've been teasing it for a while like when parks gets bloody he'll black hole slam them and show some shades of abyss, but do you think this could lead up to abyss returning and joining AJs rebellion. If I remember correctly wasn't he seen a few weeks ago talking to another set of bikers that weret A&Es? Anyway I wanna know what y'all think and I you guys miss abyss too

Nope. I've always referred to him as Mankindof, or Mankane, since he's basically a fusion between the two. I really haven't been that impressed by him at all since he really started to put on weight, which kinda killed the intimidation factor of early Abyss. Imagine Kane with another 100 pounds, all carried in his stomach, and tell me he's even half as intimidating/interesting. Same applies to Abyss, or any "monster" type, really. Them getting fat just humanizes them, and they're never supposed to look human.

At some point I'm sure they'll dig even more into the obvious Abyss/Park split personality, but I don't think the two will ever be one. I think they're going Mick Foley with this. They are separate entities that happen to share the same body.

Abyss before he got fat was amazing! I expected him to get back into shape when Hulk Hogan said that he was going to make him into TNAs version of the Undertaker, but that didn't happen. I think the only way he could be salvaged is if Jim Mitchell returned as his manager and put the New Church back together. Unfortunately, TNA will never do that. So, we are stuck with a completely pointless wrestler who used to be a killer. Typical TNA booking. For ever good move they make they make and equally stupid move...

Abyss was ok, but up until he took off after his hardcore match with Bully Ray, he seemed like more of comedic sidekick, particularly in Immortal. There were times he was an intimidating monster, but he was also a whipping boy of sorts. As Joseph Park, he's another face that's contributing to the A&8's story. That's all we got until Abyss re-emerges.

If I had to choose between the Two then I would have to go with Abyss. When Abyss started out in TNA he looked like a complete monster, But when Hulk and Bischoff took over they turned him into a comedy Jobber and it just did not work. Now you have chris portraying the character of Joseph Parks the brother of Abyss and while the Idea was Ok to start with, TNA are now draging the storyline out and the Joseph parks character has become boring. They Really need to hurry up and put the mask back on Parks and have him be the monster that we all know and love.

Not me. I always saw Abyss as a poor hybrid of Kane & Mankind and the days in which he was able to pull off the character well are long since behind him.

The Abyss character, in my eyes, is permanently damaged because of TNA turning him into the world's largest, mentally handicapped 10 year old. During 2010 when Abyss seemed to be a personal project of Hulk Hogan, Abyssamania if you will, it was some of the worst stuff TNA's ever put on television.

While I'm kind of over the Joseph Park character, it's still a much more interesting character than the Abyss character. At least, it is in my opinion. He's shown much more personality than I thought he was capable of. As I said, I'm not all that wild about Joseph Park, it's something that gets a good reaction overall. I definitely prefer Joseph Park promos to Abyss promos. At least the Park character's promos feature something other than him yelling & breathing heavy into the mic as if he's just getting ready to bust a nut.

That being said, I do think we'll ultimately see Abyss return at some point. TNA has flirted with the idea of Abyss being an "alternate personality" of Chris Park in the past and I think they'll pull the trigger on that somewhere down the road.

I have never been a fan of Abyss. He's so obviously this terrible pandering rip-off of Kane and Mankind that it's painful to watch. I cringed seeing Foley work with him. It's like Foley being forced to see what kind of morons look up to him and emulate his risk-taking style, very awkward.

Here's every Abyss match ever.

1) Abyss falls on tacks.

There you go.

I don't.

For me, the Abyss character started to go downhill, as the "They" storyline developed. Abyss made an unbearable transition from being a monster to a rambling and deranged loony, who looked like a dirty and wet homeless man. Janice made everything worse, and it was one of the stupidest ideas for a weapon I've ever seen. They couldn't actually show Abyss using Janice, and maintain a shred of believability, because the weapon was literally capable of killing someone. And TNA really drove the nail into the coffin by turning Abyss into a playful ******ed child. The awful storyline with Desomnd Wolfe happened in there somewhere, and it was heavily implied Abyss raped Chelsea. Also, Abyss-a-mania was a colossal embarrassment on every level imaginable. I cringed when Abyss came out to Hogan's WCW theme on epiosde of Impact, and nobody bought Abyss as the next Hulk Hogan.

I remember TNA trying to resurrect the monster side of Abyss a while ago, but it didn't work out, because Abyss suffered too many setbacks and too much damage as a character. Joseph Park still gets a nice reaction from the live crowds, and I'll take him over Abyss.

I would rather have Abyss than Joseph Park. that is Abyss as a monster who doesn't talk much. TNA made him talk way too much. back when he was X division champion and feuding with whatever that skinny guys name was, that was bad.
if Joseph Park remains a character, I don't see it going anywhere. I have seen some say/think that Joseph Park should get the TV title, but I strongly disagree. "Joseph Park" IMO hasn't done much to deserve any title shot. even though we know Joseph Park is Abyss, "Joseph Park" the character we are supposed to believe is brand new to wrestling with very little experience.
"Joseph Park" I think in the beginning was entertaining, but now it's the same thing. he looks confused like he doesn't know what to do. he wipes sweat off his face. he seems to have the same stupid look on his face.

there was something I read recently that talked about the Joseph Park story line having a long already planned out thing. I hope that it does end up being Joseph Park realizing that HE is actually Abyss. I would prefer it to have some type of situation where he doesn't talk much, and maybe ends up with a manager.

Abyss does remind me of a Mankind type character, but I don't think that's a bad thing.

I'm a sucker for a good hardcore match so I definately miss that side of Abyss, but overall I think Joseph Park is a much better/more interesting character than Abyss. There's more life in the Joseph Park character for me. With Abyss I was just waiting for a big match on PPV to come up so I could see what sort of crazy stuff he would do to himself and his opponent. With Joseph Park I find myself getting behind him more and more, week after week, and taking an interest in where his character is going. He also makes me laugh quite a bit and is a unique character. With less PPV's now as well, characters take even more precedence over guys who put on exciting matches IMO (and yes Abyss does put on exciting matches - if you are a fan of hardcore wrestling). Monsters like Abyss are a dime a dozen in wrestling but characters like Joseph Park are pretty rare. If TNA want a monster, they've got Rob Terry. I watch OVW and Big Rob has improved immensly and just needs to be booked correctly (like OVW did). Ultimately I think Joseph Park could be here to stay but we'll still see "flashes of Abyss" from time to time, well that's how I hope it goes anyway.

Abyss should stick to doing what any big guy with a semi-good look, mediocre mic skills and sub-par in-ring skills should do: be an enforcer in a heel stable. There's a reason why they keep guys like that around. Hell, I would even be okay with Abyss being in Aces & Eights if they would have kept the group as Bully Ray (the leader), Anderson and D-Von (who could be the tag team, although I would MUCH rather see Anderson do his own thing since I'm one of his A**holes), a heel off of the X-Division who can work well (the cruiserweight), and Abyss (the enforcer). It's a classic stable formation for a reason. Once you get more than that in the group, it becomes bogged down. Plus, with people filling roles like that, everyone in the stable gets a chance to stand out as individuals as well.

I can't help wondering if TNA will continue to explore the Abys story. As we'll all recall when Joseph arrived he was "Looking for his brother" & he balmed Bully for his disapperance.
Interestingly that angle seems to have gone away. I think its one they should continue to explore & ultimately bring back the Abyss charatcer through it.
Thoughts?

Nope. Will only be interested in the Abyss character if its a more Taker/Sting character instead of Mankind/Kane, and he loses weight along the way.

Can't do that with Abyss since it seems AJ is doing it except for the makeup. I do agree that he's packed on too much weight to be what he was before, but this is something a lot of the big men of the wrestling world struggle with as they get older. It gets harder to maintain weight and they have to work harder and unfortunately a lot of them just aren't able to maintain their physiques.
