I fear there may be crazy fans doing drastic things

Occasional Pre-Show
I thought this the other day that fans do wild things in sporting events, if we don't like the team that wins in a football, basketball game they riot or of something exciting happens, they storm the field. We all have heard of someone doesn't win we riot phrase. For all that has happened with Daniel Bryan not in the RR match, CM Punk walking out, Batista winning, probably other excuses that fans have just had enough over, could the riot remark actually happen? Could we see a similar takeover on a televised live event where it is so uncontrollable? Let's say at WM 30 if Punk doesn't show up could wwe be prepared to hold the fans back. With Punk leaving, I think we may get close to seeing it. Your thoughts

I doubt it. People always speak about rioting but everyone's just waiting for that one bloke to start it. It results in nothing happening. I defo believe the fans will "hijack" some matches at Wrestlemania, don't really reckon we'll see something more, although WWE would surely deserve it considering their beyond awful booking since Summerslam.

It only takes one person doing something stupid for everybody else in their drunken stupors to follow. I really really hope that us fans are responsible enough not to take the WWE serious enough to riot over booking of certain superstars. With that being said , it wouldn't surprise me 1 or 2 unhappy individuals try to jump the guard rails to attack a Batista or HHH or somebody who they are not happy with. A full on riot, I hope not.

Orton has been attacked before, in the end nothing would surprise me if this became that case for HHH or Batista. These are really tense times, and some people will take them too seriously which could lead to some trouble. But for the most part I don't think it'll be a huge issue, 1-2 people, maybe a little bit more, a few problems possibly here and there. The crowd is disgruntled, I don't think they'll get to the point of going rabid.

If I were in the WWE management I would surely consider a cut off point for beer similar to what major sports do. I think baseball is the 7th inning etc etc.

Fans have been particularly loud in voicing their anger and frustration at wwe events recently and its hard to blame them especially when wwe keeps pretending theres nothing wrong but most of the time wwe fans seem pretty tame theres always a few drunk idiots but even if wwe did something to really piss off the fans i dont think a full on riot would happen they would just carry on heckling them with boring chants and such.i do think a mass fan walk out is a real possibility at some point though.i think it was close to happning when rey came out as number 30 in the rumble.

I doubt it. This is a very controlled environment and still a PG product. ECW had vicious, rabid fans who were even encouraged to bring weapons in for their matches; frying pans, cheese graters, even a loaf of bread (lol). 99% of the time, it was fine. There may be a goofball or two who will run into the ring, but most people just voice their opinions by cheering and booing and enjoying the show

I think the worst thing the entertainers have to worry about is trash being thrown into the ring. I was honestly waiting for that to happen at the end of the Rumble. Other than that, I think (or at least really hope) that people don't take wrestling seriously enough to do something dangerous. In the end, it's entertainment. We can all be frustrated and voice our opinions if things don't go the way we want, but I think the people that would want to actually riot would be in the minority and quickly dealt with by security. I can't imagine there being an arena full of fans that were angry enough to do the same. Usually the morons are not the majority at any type of sporting event.

I think fans booing is all in good fun, I doubt they would go as far as rioting. As someone said, trash thrown at the ring is about the worst things that could happen. This is a very different context compared to other sporting events.

I wouldn't be surprised to see some sort of fan reaction, especially as tomorrow will be the first RAW since the story of Punk walking out was made public.

RAW tomorrow night is in Omaha OHAMA OHAMA, Nebraska. Not really a city known for being loud, but I expect them to do their part. If HHH and Steph kick off the show say, I'd imagine there to be very loud chants for CM Punk and Daniel Bryan (as per the usual).

Can I see them as you say 'hijacking' a segment, like chanting for Punk during a Divas match? No, but I hope they do

Not really, but you have to remember that the actual process of getting into an arena these days is a lot different to the days of heels being stabbed etc. Incident's like Monica Seles being stabbed in the 90's really brought the hammer down on what people could take into arenas and then incidents like Dimebag Darrell being shot and 9/11 tightened it any more.

Wrestlers are at a physical risk any time they are in the space of the fans, you may see that a little less for a while but if anything Punk showed how to deal with it rather than do anything to cause a problem when he slapped the guy... that it happened to be the wrong guy is immaterial to him... If you invade the ring, you expect to get hurt... if the wrestlers are close to you in the crowd, it's a privilege and if someone attacks or even takes a liberty, they should be expecting to be hurt.

When Jericho popped the stupid bitch out in the street, it was a little more serious in some ways as there was a mob situation and while he wasn't "in his place of business" and protected by the E's "We reserve the right to terminate the show" he handled it.

Generally the talent are able to hold their own, maybe not against 2 or 3 people but if one fan tries they can at least defend themselves better than the man on the street perhaps could. It's also unusual for a talent to be in the crowd on their own. Punk was the only time I really remember it being of that nature... normally it's two guys brawling or the Shield as a unit entering... if anything happened there are two guys there who might suddenly break character, but safety of the workers would be assured.

In an arena at the start of every show they have that announcement I mentioned... it always jars with me cos it's like "really? you really THINK that's gonna happen? You really THINK that you're gonna do something so inflammatory tonight?" but at the moment it probably could and that's their only major worry... the old "if Cena wins we riot" was a joke, had they done so there would have been serious consequences... indeed anyone who disrupts the show in theory could be liable to lawsuits or criminal problems and remember the camera can identify you, much as they can for throwing a coin in a football match...

They have to decide how much "disruption" would constitute that now... is a Punk' sign or shirt now a no-no, if so it's gonna piss people off and cause issues... at one point they were literally handing out freebie shirts to people wearing something with the old WWF logo on it... do they start doing that... soon that could be an issue as Punk fans en-masse do it to get a free shirt...

Rhe chants will continue they can't eject someone for them and if will be exacerbated if signs, t-shirts etc are taken away without the free shirt... soon it becomes a bigger issue than if they accede to what Punk perhaps wants. At this stage we don't know WHAT is going on... if it's a work it's the most interesting since Montreal (Bret never did sue over that creative control) but if it's real they are almost better off giving Punk a new deal, having him show up to open wrestlemania, maybe disrupt/jaw with Hogan and they set 31's main event in stone as him facing the champion...
There will come a point where that is probably preferable to the disruption or backlash... but of course a lot can happen in one year and Phil wouldn't be able to "stay out of the ring" for the whole year, so if someone "accidentally" injured him in January they'd still have time to "recover" the show with a new main event.

I don't think people would be going so far as to bringing weapons into events, I thought he was maybe referring to something similar to what happened when Hogan turned up at Bash At The Beach in 96, just throwing their halfeaten popcorn and stuff into the ring

Who knows? I doubt anyone takes the product that seriously, and anyone so dissatisfied with the product sure isn't going to sacrifice their money to attend a WWE event. Wrestlemania can be a big disappointment if Triple H wrestles or Orton/Batista main event. I'm sure WWE will do something to avoid that kind of reaction, especially during an important event. Lunatics are unpredictable, but the IWC and the Universe know they can enact change with their voices alone.

If we believe the old timers, then they used to get that cos they won a match... so now with the extra investment emotionally and "knowledge" people think they have, who is to say it couldn't happen.. From a security standpoint people wouldn't be able to bring stuff in, or if they did it'd be very hard for them to do... doesn't mean they wouldn't or it's impossible if they really wanted to or they see Dave in a restaurant and decide he ain't going to Mania...

Nutters, stalkers, psychopaths are out there, they watch wrestling too, indeed that you have had cases where kids attack their siblings etc show that it is possible for Wrestling to be a factor in violence for disturbed people... Most adults of that type just used to go to backyard feds or fight clubs but there's always the type out there like Mark Chapman.

There's probably at least one at any show WWE do who could be considered unhealthily invested in what goes on... they may just be fans legit who latch on to wrestling but or are THAT passionate/rich they go to every town they can... but it only takes one where the "It's real to me dammit" joke isn't a joke and things could go wrong big time... The downside of chants and the crowd is that it is easy to get caught up in even if you are the most restrained person going... wrestling fans can be among the most rabid at times.

It hasn't happened yet in WWE and that's down to the security rather than luck... Jericho's altercation or Punk's love tap could both have gone very wrong indeed had that security failed. Hopefully it never would and the chances are so slim but they can't ignore it...

No, I don't think the fans will riot. I think the WWE has a better grasp on what the fans want than you think. One of my favorite quotes is "ignorance isn't the biggest threat to knowledge, the illusion of knowledge is" which basically sums up the IWC. Many of them think that the WWE doesn't know how to work them. Guess what, you make a ton of noise and pay money to see their show and DB is super over and will win the title in Seattle or sooner...you've been worked. They know how to work you, they know you think you know what goes on backstage. They know you think HHH love big guys, or loves his friends, or loves HBKs guys...or loves...whatever, iunno, the IWC makes up so much shit it's hard to keep it straight. Bottom line is the IWC isn't that hard to work, but they think they are, which makes them such each marks. So no, there won't be any rioting.
