well the frontman came from a band called The Receiving End of sirens. But The Dear Hunter are a weird proggish sound with lots of genres mixed in like ragtime and others in there.

I cannot even fathom what that would sound like. I'm going to have to look them up.

ragtime is only part of it, there are elements of it, other musical influences that are there, but it is a lot in there.
