Hulk Hogan vs Randy Savage in Saskatchewan?

The Boss

'The Boss' Of Pro Wrestling
I found pictures posted on Hogan's Beach Shop Facebook page of a 1989 match between HOLLYWOOD HULK HOGAN and Randy Savage. The fan claims to have have taken the photos in Regina Saskatchewan Canada. But I can find no record of a match in that area. Does anyone have any confirmation of this match taking place in Regina Saskatchewan? And if so on what date?

This may have happened on December 9th, 1989 when the WWF did a house show at the Agridome (now the Brandt Centre, home of the WHL's Regina Pats.)

WWF @ Regina, Saskatchewan – Agridome – December 9, 1989
The Canadian Earthquake defeated Koko B. Ware
Bad News Brown pinned Paul Roma with the Ghetto Blaster
The Honkytonk Man pinned the Red Rooster when Jimmy Hart held the Rooster’s legs during the cover
Brutus Beefcake fought Rick Martel to a double disqualification when both men shoved the referee
Bret Hart & Jim Neidhart fought Shawn Michaels & Marty Jannetty to a 20-minute time-limit draw; the teams were held back by other wrestlers after the match
Jim Duggan defeated Randy Savage via count-out at 12:00 when Savage left ringside

I'm not doubting the fan. The time matches up and Savage was indeed on the card. However, there's no sign of Hogan being listed. That's not saying he wasn't. It could be something that was recorded incorrectly and the longer that time passes, the easier it is to lose or record the wrong information.

I looked into it as best I could. Hogan and Savage had a house show program immediately following Wrestlemania V. This match is likely from that time period, specifically late May. There is no record on the history of wwe site, which the first reply references, of a show happening in Regina during that leg of the tour, but that doesn't mean there was no such show. WWF did shows in both Calgary and Edmonton on May 27th and 28th respectively with Hogan and Savage as the main event. There's a gap in the records for several days before then, and Savage isn't listed on any shows between May 22 and 27. I think it's most likely that if they indeed did a show in Regina, it would be then. It's possible they would return there a bit later, but I think it's more likely they did all their western Canadian shows back to back.

That's what I got from the historyofwwe site.

He's wearing the Macho King tights so thats somewhere between April 3, 1989 and August 30, 1989

I checked wrestlingdata.com and there's no record of Hogan/Savage happening in Regina. I'd be a little surprised too if they did fight there, because Regina was always more of a "B show" town, and not the type where Hogan would have gone to.

One poster mentioned the Canadian tour in May 1989. Here's their match listing from that tour:

WWF @ Toronto
1989/05/21 @ Maple Leaf Gardens in Toronto, Ontario (Canada)
Hulk Hogan (c) defeated Randy Savage [WWF World Heavyweight Title]

WWF @ Calgary
1989/05/27 @ Olympic Saddledome in Calgary, Alberta (Canada)
Randy Savage defeated Hulk Hogan (c) by countout [WWF World Heavyweight Title]

WWF @ Edmonton
1989/05/28 @ Northlands Coliseum in Edmonton, Alberta (Canada)
Randy Savage defeated Hulk Hogan (c) by countout [WWF World Heavyweight Title]

WWF @ Montreal
1989/05/29 @ Forum in Montréal, Quebec (Canada)
Randy Savage defeated Hulk Hogan (c) by countout [WWF World Heavyweight Title]

I find the dates odd, considering they start in Toronto, take 5 days off to travel out west, work a couple days in Alberta, then fly back across the country to Montreal the next day. There could be more shows there... or they could have had some time off. Hogan didn't usually work too heavy a schedule, so I could easily see some time off during that week or so in Canada.

The Macho King tights were Blue, and immediately following Survivor Series 1989 Savage started wearing the long tights, so yes, I would say this match is after Mania 5 but before Summerslam 89, between April and August 1989, which somebody has already alluded to

I think some of you have missed the point. Clearly the pictures were from sometime between April 3 1989 and August 30 1989. That's not the question. I'm trying to verify that they were taken in Regina Saskatchewan. I can find no record of a match. So it's possible that either the fan who took the pictures posted the wrong city or I have just not found documentation of the event.

I have no concrete evidence for you except to recall a story of one of my neighbors telling you that apparently he had seen a hogan and savage match in Regina around the time of Wrestlemania V. I use to live in Calgary so it's a little more believable and my neighbor was an old school fan from Regina so take whatever stock you want in this account of the story.

True it's not concrete but at least it's something. Thanks for the info.

Now that I think about it the match could have happened as late as September 29 of that year. Back in those days when a title (or a crown as in this case) changed hands it wasn't acknowledged at house shows until the episode had aired on TV.

Hogan sucks. Savage sucks. Saskatchewan sucks.

Now if was Goldberg vs. Batista in North Dakota you'd be on to something. Two wrestling technicians in the most important area of wrasslin' fans.

I was at this card 25 years ago today! I have the program with the list of matches!. Although it says jake Roberts vs ted dibiase it was actually a surprise return ofcthe hot rod! Remember it like it was yesterday! May 26 1989!!

That's awesome! Could you post a scan of the match list please?
