how would you have booked Wrestlemania 18

quink987

Pre-Show Stalwart
ok guys as we all know Stone Cold faced Scott Hall at WM18 and the rock stole the show with his match against Hulk Hogan and HHH/Jericho ended the show but overall the PPV wasnt that great how would you have improved it and why? for me this is what I would of changed the main event to

Steve Austin vs Triple H WWE Title
I think if These 2 would of main evented WM it would of gave that big match feel and the fans proberly would of been into it more then Jericho/HHH and even thou this match would of been after Rock/Hogan maybe with Austin/HHH following would of kept the fans pumped.

Kept Rock vs Hogan added

Nash/Hall vs Dudley Boyz Tag Titles
I think by adding this would of added to the NWO vs WWE feel to the night, plus would of kept the NWO away from Austin.

Kurt Angle vs Chris Jericho WWE title Shot at Backlash
would of gave these 2 something to do at Mania and these work really well together the storyline could of been they both got robbed out of the title and they both bitch until Vince makes the match.

Kept Undertaker vs Ric Flair I really enjoyed it.

Rob Van Dam vs Mr Perfect IC title
I would of made RVD Champ before the MAnia and have PErfect challage him on raw or even win a Battle Royal or something.

Made a Hardcore title Battle Royal so everyone could get on the Show and have Kane win or something

and kept the Edge vs Booker T match just to fill up the card

well I thought this was a serious thread until I read Nash competing at Mania 18. Kevin Nash had a well publicised injury, thus why he could not wrestle on the card. If one is looking to say how they would have booked the show, one HAS to take into account the variables that were around at that time.

If personalities and egos were able to have been puit aside, as GREAT as Hogan vs Rock was, the world wanted to see Hulk Hogan vs Steve Austin, plain and simple. History shows Austin was in a bad place around that time and no-showed the Raw twice in 9 weeks and left the company, so the fallout from Hogan vs Austin would have been buried as Austin would not have been around. Jericho was finally getting the main event push he so thoroughly deserved, he had to be in the main event picture. HHH had only returned and won the Royal Rumble, so obviously he had to be booked in the WWE Undisputed Championship match. Mr Perfect was washed up and was fired for drug and alcohol abuse on the Planeride from Hell weeks after Mania, he had no reason to be in such a high profile spot on the card.
Wresylemania 18,.was a solid card and apart from the Hogan/Austin match, the card should be left alone, in my opinion.

First of all I would have obviously put Rock Hogan LAST. When watching the show I almost forgot about the Triple H Jericho match at the end of the Rock Hogan extravaganza. The crowd was worn out and they showed little to no interest in what was a good match between Triple H and Jericho.

Great thread. I think I responded to something similar before, and I know this new response will be different than last time, but here goes…again.

Too Cool (Rikishi, Scotty 2 Hotty and Albert) vs. The Un-Americans (William Regal, Lance Storm and, Test)
I’d have Regal drop the Intercontinental Title to Edge at No Way Out 2002.

WWE Women’s Championship Triple Threat match
Jazz vs. Trish Stratus vs. Lita

WWE Tag Team Championship Fatal Four Way Elimination match
Billy and Chuck vs. The APA (Faarooq and Bradshaw) vs. the Dudley Boyz vs. The Hardy Boyz (Matt and Jeff)
Same match, don’t care about the result.

Everyone not specified on this card is placed in a 20 minute Hardcore Championship Scramble match for the Hardcore Championship.
Great idea, OP.

European Championship match
Diamond Dallas Page vs. Christian
Kept the same.

Intercontinental Championship Fatal Four Way match
Edge vs. Booker T. vs. Rob Van Dam vs. Mr. Perfect
It doesn’t matter to me who wins this, I would have loved to have seen it.

Undertaker vs. Kurt Angle
As Raw GM, Ric Flair didn’t like them both storyline-wise, so why not make them face each other. This match would have been a step above Taker / Flair and Angle / Kane.

6 Man Tag Team Elimination match
The New World Order (Hollywood Hulk Hogan, Kevin Nash and Scott Hall) vs. Stone Cold Steve Austin, The Rock, and Ric Flair
The way I see it, I think that Hogan should not have turned Face as soon as he did. They could have milked that for all it’s worth and saved it for next year.

Undisputed WWF / WCW Championship match
Chris Jericho vs. Triple H
I would not have changed a thing, except for the winner of this match. I would have gone with a double turn with Steph siding with HHH mid-way through the match and Jericho pulling out the victory.

Steve Austin vs Hulk Hogan
This was the match that everyone wanted to see. I've read a lot about this match been changed to Rock vs Hogan (No clue why as this match featured THE two biggest stars of wrestling ever IMO in SCSA and Hogan). And this is coming from a Rock fan. But i guess they were going for the "passing the torch" idea.

I'm not real sure what I would change from the card. Rock and Hogan definately should have gone last. But it an all honestly I'm not so sure Vince was ready to let Crap Hogan go on last just yet. Triple H and Jericrap had some story behind it as well as Undertaker and Flair. As far as Hall...... I'm not sure I would have put him on the card at all. He couldn't be trusted. I would have probably staged an intervention and put him in rehab.

RVD (c) vs DDP IC Title (No Holds Barred)
DDP goes back to his popular character in WCW. They build it that RVD was the People's champion in ECW while DDP was the People's champion in WCW. Two popular guys fight for the IC title. Winner: RVD still champion

Edge vs Jericho vs Christian
Jericho challenges these two wrestlers for the crown of King of Canada. Winner: Edge

Kane (c) vs William Regal (European title)
Standard feud that Regal is disgusted that Kane is such a monster and doesn't act like a gentlemen. Regal will take the title in give it some class. Winner: Kane still champion

GoldDust (c) vs Booker T (Hardcore Title)

Slowly start the seeds for their friendship. GoldDust sees potential in Booker and asks if he can get hardcore. Booker takes the match to get rid of GoldDust Winner: Booker T new champion

Kurt Angle vs Mr. Perfect

Who is the best technical wrestler between two generations. Winner: Mr. Perfect

Three Way Elimination Match for World Tag Team Championship

Outsiders vs The Hardy Boyz vs the Dudleys
They fight for who is the greatest tag team in the attitude era between WCW's Outsiders, WWF's Hardyz, & ECW's Dudley Boyz. Winner: The Hardy Boyz new champions

HHH vs Ric Flair Street Fight

HHH doesn't win the royal rumble and down the line turns on Flair. HHH came back to prove his idol Flair is a has been tarnishing his legacy. And HHH is the true standard in professional wrestling. Winner: HHH

Stone Cold Steve Austin (c) vs Undertaker Undisputed Title
Undertaker wins the Royal Rumble. Stone Cold beats Jericho for the title @ No Way Out with Taker's help. Taker says he's been the phenom and backbone of the WWF but SS gets all the glory. So, he'll gain respect from Austin & his fans by beating him. Winner: Undertaker 10-0 new champion

Jazz vs Lita vs Trish Three-way Women's Title Match

Winner: Jazz

The Rock vs Hollywood Hogan Icon vs. Icon Match
No need to Change anything and End Wrestlemania with the Hogan Pose Down.

well I thought this was a serious thread until I read Nash competing at Mania 18. Kevin Nash had a well publicised injury, thus why he could not wrestle on the card. If one is looking to say how they would have booked the show, one HAS to take into account the variables that were around at that time.
Can you provide proof of this because I remember the story being that Nash was kept off the card in case Scott Hall went off the deep end and a replacement was needed for Austin. I can't remember if it was on a DVD or in someone's book, but that's the story I have heard. Nash may also have been injured, but the reason I've always heard as to why he didn't have a Mania match in Toronto was in case Hall wasn't able to go.

I actually really liked the X-8 card. Austin vs. Hogan would have been cool, and I would have liked Perfect to have been on the card (maybe against Edge), but overall it was a pretty solid card. I might have even kept Taker face (or re-turned him) and had him team with Kane to take on Hall & Nash. But Taker-Flair was really good (and I got to pop super hard for the Anderson spin buster). Jericho-Triple H was decent, but had the problem of its placement on the card. No one was going to be able to follow Rock-Hogan. Where to put the Rock (if I have Hogan facing Austin) is the tough one. Angle would still be without an opponent, but we'd seen Angle-Rock before. Hm, this is tougher than I thought. OK, here's my card:

Austin vs. Hogan
Outsiders vs. Kane & Taker
Flair vs. Angle
Jericho vs. Triple H vs. Rock (triple threat for the Undisputed title)
Mr. Perfect vs. Edge
RVD vs. Booker T (IC title match)
Trish vs. Lita vs. Jazz (Women's title match)
Dudleyz vs. Hardyz (Tag titles)

If I am not allowed to turn people from heel to face (ala Taker), then I'll go with this:

Rock-Hogan
Jericho-Triple H (Undisputed title)
Taker-Flair
Angle-Austin
RVD-Booker (IC title)
Perfect-Edge
Dudleyz-Outsiders (Tag titles)
Trish-Lita-Jazz (Women's title)

thought about this a lot and sorry for the long read

my changes begin with the survivor series: angle never turns heel again. never understood why he did. instead the raw following survivor series when ric flair makes his debut, angle shows support and respect for flair. mcmahon doesn't like angle siding with flair. the build to vengence shows dissension mounting between mcmahon and angle over angel being ok with flair being part owner of wwe. vengence comes and angle loses to austin(being a face again at this point) thanks to "errant" interference by taker (being one of mcmahons guys at this point during his respect/big evil era)

raw post vengence angle snaps on mcmahon backstage, angle wants in the royal rumble, mcmahon says no but agrees to give him a title shot: against the undertaker for the hardcore title(champion at the time) for that night. angle does good, but taker beats him, bloodies him, and pins him leaving angle looking like a bloody lifeless mess inside the ring. post match, mcmahon's music plays, he says angle will be in the royal rumble match if he kiss' his ass. angle barely moving, moves up towards mcmahon's ass as if he's going to do it, fans screaming no, when he smiles, pulls the mic in mcmahons arm down, and says, "FUCK YOU, YOU SON OF A BITCH"(attitude era still remember) angle uppercuts mcmahons family jewels from the mat, and locks in the ankle lock, screaming with it locked on and not letting go till taker breaks things up laying another beating down.

angle now one of top faces gets put into the rr match by flair, and wins eliminating triple h. mcmahon announces he's bringing in the nWo after losing to flair at the rr. mcmahon takes triple h(who came back a face) under his wing, puts him into a match against angle at no way out for angle's shot. triple h takes the match but wants to do it on his own and doesn't like being given a shot at a shot if you will(being a face and all he can't)

no way out: nWo come in. they interfere in almost every match, taking out the opening match entrants before they reach the ring. rock faces taker, rock wins, post match, nwo attacks rock after taker leaves(taker mcmahon guy so he doesn't get beaten). y2j vs. austin title match nWo attack both near the end of the match. nwo meet with triple h backstage, ask if he wants any help, he says he needs to do it on his own, nwo say ok and walk off smiling. match ends when nwo come out to help triple h, but distract him allowing angle to roll him up for the 123(or something along those lines). nwo and triple h do the wolfpac/cliq thing and walk off together still good friends.

monday night raw after no way out. nwo in the ring challenge any three wwe superstars to a match at wrestlemania.(i know same as wcw bash 96 but it works perfectly) flair comes out, accepts the challenge, and names the three challenges as austin, rock, and triple h. nwo laugh when triple h is announced saying he'd never fight two of his best friends. later the nwo and triple h run into each other backstage. nwo ask if he accepted, triple h says yes, but that it's just buisness and their still friends. nwo agree

the story line that builds towards wrestlemania is nwo are a unit and rock, austin, and triple hate each other. one raw rock is being beaten down by nwo austin runs in for the save, then stuns rock then gets jumped by a recovered nwo. following smackdown same thing except austin is being beaten down and rock makes the save then rock bottoms austin.

raw before mania austin and rock start off in the ring with mics agreeing they hate each other and can't work together till they beat the hell out of each other first, they also agree they can't trust triple h. he comes to the ring says business is business and when the match comes the game will be on. the three end up brawling till only triple h is left in the ring, austin leaves through the crowd, rock up the ramp. austin vs. rock that night, nwo interfere in the end, triple h runs down, but doesn't get in the ring and instead back to the backstage till security breaks things up and raw ends.

so wrestlemania 18 new main events:

undisputed title: y2j defending against angle
six man tag: hogan, hall, nash(healthy or what if purposes) vs. rock, austin, triple h

six man ending: rock and austin won't trust triple h and won't tag him in, austin being beaten down needs to tag, but rock is hurting, austin reaching for rock(won't tag triple h) triple h tags himself in, cleans house on the nwo, goes to work on hogan (legal man) sends nash and hall to the ground, rock takes hall, austin takes nash, triple h vs hogan in the ring. hogan goes for the big boot, hunter ducks underneath, boot to the gut, sets for the pedigree, when a person with a cowboy hat runs in the ring from the crowd and sweet chin music to hunter before he can pedigree hogan (shawn michaels makes his return at wrestlemania instead as the fourth man) hbk to the outside, kick to austin when stunner reversed, kick to rock and rock bottom reveresed. austin rock and triple h are beaten and bloodied really bad, austin and triple h the worst, ends when nash holds hunter by the left arm, hall holds triple h by the right arm, hbk grabs the sledghammer, they says it's just business to hunter, then hbk cloaks hunters already bloodied face right between the eyes with the sledge hammer. nwo spray paint N on rock, W on austin, and O on triple h and the three are stretchered out.

this keeps hogan heel, sets nwo as the main heels for the coming year, sets up future feuds, and puts the nwo over. big change hbk ok to come back few months sooner.

angle vs. y2j, angle wins, post match hogan walks out and applauds.

once again sorry for the length
i could go on with what happens that year, but thread is for w18 so i'll stop there.

I’ve always looked at WM18 as a good show. The hype, the atmosphere, and the crowd for Hogan vs. Rock made the show. Other than that it was decent, but showed a lack of effort. Some of the matches seemed better fit for a lesser show than mania. A little shuffling of the roster could have made this better. Here’s what should have happened.

The Rock vs. Hulk Hogan: I would leave this alone. I know it’s a popular opinion that Austin should have gotten Hogan instead. At the time I thought so too. Seeing the way this turned out I wouldn’t have changed it. The crowd reaction was so special and unique. I don’t think it would have been the same with Austin. He obviously always gets a reaction, but I think a lot of fans, maybe most, would have been behind Austin and we wouldn’t have gotten as good of a moment.

Steve Austin vs. Triple H: So Austin deserved better than Hall but shouldn’t have got Hogan. I think he should have walked into mania as champ and wrestled Triple H in the main event. The showdown they had when Triple H returned at the rumble was awesome. Also these two were a team with the two man power trip when HHH got hurt. Some think they should have main evented WM17. I think a year later with a little more history between them would have been a good time. Also since Austin would have been involved the crowd wouldn’t have been dead for the main event.

Rob Van Dam vs. Chris Jericho: This just seems like a good mania match. Jericho is a better opponent for RVD than Regal.

Edge vs. Kurt Angle: This is a much better match than what both guys actually got. I especially like the American Olympic gold medalist going against the hometown boy in Canada. They would start a feud and have some great matches immediately after mania so why not start it a little earlier?

Booker T & DDP vs. Hall & Nash: With the nwo invading the WWF who better than two top WCW stars to try to stop them? They knew first hand what kind of damage the nwo could cause and would want to stop them before they got started. Booker was going face soon anyway and this would have been a good way to turn him. It also would give DDP more credibility. Maybe they could include Big Show and X Pac and make it a six man.

Undertaker vs. Ric Flair: Leave this one alone. It was great.

Four corners tag title match: Meh, whatever. Leave it I guess.

These are some changes that I think would have made a better show. I don’t know what I would have done with Kane, Christian, or Regal, but the main part of the card is more important.

Hardy Boys vs Dudley Boys WWF Tag Team Titles
Dudleys win.

Booker T vs DDP
two ex WCW guys just tearin it up at WM, Booker T wins

Angle vs Mr Perfect vs RVD WWF Intercontinental Title
Perfect joined the nWo in the weeks prior so they are there and help him win the IC belt

Nash & Hall vs Flair & Jericho
nWo cost Jericho the title, nWo is after Flair. nWo wins.

Austin vs Hogan
This would work much better for austin because hall couldnt even do his finisher to austin because of the neck. The real Icon vs Icon match, Austin wins, end plays out same as before with hogan turning face and getting beat down by the nWo

HHH vs Rock WWF Undisputed Title: HHH wins with run in help from the nWo, thus making him the newest member of the nWo.
