How to keep Edge & get Rid of Cole in one match!

Kidd

Pre-Show Stalwart
Ok so I was thinking about Edge's retirement when it hit me; a way to get rid of Cole and keep Edge in WWE.

Cole's match with Lawler should have a stipulation that the loser leave the commentator's booth/table.

Have King and JR win the match and force Cole to leave the announce team.

The next night, announce Edge as a commentator for the RAW brand and let him, Matthews, and Lawler be the commentator team.

As for Cole, let him disappear for a week or two and then have him show up on SmackDown! as a manager for an up and coming heel who needs a rub.

This will accomplish three things:

1. It keeps Edge in the business.

2. It gets Cole off the mic so we don't have to hear him for the whole show. Don't get me wrong, Cole is a heat magnet! But he's better in small doses. He can take on the Vicky Guerero spot on SmackDown while she stays on RAW.

3. It will give someone who needs it a huge rub much the same way that Vicky gave Ziggler a rub.

So what are your thoughts on this?

Like?

Dislike?

Why?

In my opinion it would be awesome if Edge comes out to be as the Raw GM. He can come out next week and say that VKM fired the "anonymous" GM and hired him instead (or something like that).
He can come out and issue a ruling that nobody is ever allowed to touch him (because of his injury) and he could still be relevant in the business.

This is very far-fetched but a part of me wishes this comes true.

What makes you think he doesn't want to take a break and just relax and do his own thing for a few years?

I agree. Generating ideas about how Edge should maintain his relevancy in the WWE is pointless. If Edge wants to stay, Vince will make the appropriate plans for Edge to remain current in the wrestling world, which would likely include a stint at a commentary desk. But its Edge's decision in life and right now, no one knows if he wants to continue or take some much deserved time off. Lets just wait and see.

I honestly would be fine if Edge decided to just stay away from the spot light for a bit, before maybe mentoring a new Rated R Superstar or something then leaving again or maybe doing commentary (instead of the mentoring thing), or maybe doing both? Eh, who knows. All up to Edge and then VKM as to what will happen if Edge decides to still help the WWE to be the best possible.

We'll see what he wants to do. I'm sure that he'll want to remain with WWE in some capacity, whether that be an on-screen or off-screen role. I'd like to see him as a commentator, sure. I'd also like to see him as an on-screen personality, possibly as a GM- the "Rated R Era" would come to whatever show he manages.

Or if he wants to be away, he'd probably be excellent as an officer in the developmental and talent program.

I would love to see Edge join the announcing team, and this is actually a pretty clever way to do it (much better than the silence-inducing announcement of the match being a tag match). That being said, I think he should (and likely will) take a while off and then come back in a role like you describe. I also feel it is important for him to do so as it will let any storylines he has been involved in move well into the past. Otherwise, if he ran into Del Rio it would be a bit awkward since they just had this large angle.

If Edge actually did want to keep his foot in the WWE, this wouldn't be a terrible idea, but we really need to hold off on something like this for a while. Edge retiring, saying he's leaving the business, then coming back the next night as a commentator will kill the buzz of his farewell speech.

That, and there's seriously an overabundance of commentators right now. Wait until Cole's entire character wraps up, and see where that leaves us.

I would love for Edge to return as a heel manager. We can see the champ (possibly Christian) get attacked after a hard fought match by Curt Hawkins with Edge in street clothes at ring side.

Next week he comes out, in full heel form, and says he's upset that he had to retire early, and that should be his title. He says Christian is happy he retired because now Edge is out of his way. Then he introduces his new protege, the new rated r superstar, Curt Hawkins.

I think Edge would make an excellent announcer but they should let him take a break for a while. Otherwise, his retirement speech will lose all meaning.

That's the great idea, but one problem, Edge will never commentate.

Time and time again, Edge has stated he wanted to do other stuff. He wanted a job where he could spend time with his family. He even said he'd want to do fiction writing, anything outside WWE unfortunately.

To be honest with ya... It's far from a bad idea. But let Edge take a break.

The reason for me saying this is...

Most of us here, one time, dedicated our life to something. We dedicated it to a sport in high school, or a sweet girl who you couldn't live without. Then out of the blue. It ends! Not on your terms, not how you wanted it to. It just ends. It's pretty rough to get over that obstacle.

To have him come back a month later, and have him watch something he loved doing, could really hurt the poor guy mentally. Just missing out on something he did day in and day out. Could really kill his confidence.

Let him come back on his own terms to commentary. If he wants to do that. Let him take his time. Let him relax. Let him cope.

Not a bad idea at all. Cole needs to become a manager, or something of the like. He gets a lot of heat, and is good at his character but often it takes the focus away from the match which an announcer shouldn't do. Edge is witty, funny and loquacious, so he definitely can do a good job of it. Putting him alongside King doing color commentary, with Matthews doing the play-by-play would be a good team.

I like this idea alot. However with the impact of Edge's speech last night, we probably wont see him around for a while. Probably only in the capacity in which we see Shawn Michaels. To my knowledge he will be taking up a similar role in the WWE to the Heartbreak Kid.
Depending on how things go down on Smackdown! I think the next time we see Edge will be in a celebration for Christian's WHC victory.

Alright so I was thinking all day about if the wwe wanted to keep edge around what should they do, I like the suggestion of commentator and howKee it would play out. But also what if they had Edge become a great manager.

WWE needs some new great managers like Jimmy Hart and Mr. Fuji, to help push some of these new superstars. Now I know this would probably never happen because of the PG era, but would if Edge came back and manage a new age Brood, bring back the Blood bathes, maybe skip the whole vampire them just have the really dark, but they dont have to be hell. I was think who he could manage, and I came up with Gaberiel and Slater, even tho I really dont like slater, but i think they would work, and after the Corre breaks up they probably, will still need help from a manager. This could help bring back the tag division, and Keep Edge around.

Oh and if you didnt like the New age Brood idea, then I would have come back and be a manager like Micheal Hayes was for the Hardys

Edge is gone, accept it. He's given it far more than his all and I don't see him coming back to commentate. The only time Edge will return is to his HOF indication, either next year, or in 2013. He is done, gone, finished....let him enjoy his non-wrestling life, even if it's living as a nomad in the mountains somewhere.

I agree with others - if Edge chooses to come back as a commentator, or in another "non-wrestling" type role, that would be awesome, but from his goodbye speech, I get the impression that he just wants to go away and chill out, thanking his lucky stars that he didn't end up in a wheelchair.

Thank you Edge for all you've done.
