How Much Longer For Mysterio

It has been reported on numerous sites, including WrestleZone, that Rey Mysterio has a torn rotator cuff. He has been given a lighter schedule to heal as much as possible. I am a fan of Mysterio and have been since I began watching in 2005. But how many more injuries and surgeries can he endure?

How much longer do you guys think he will be around before he decides to hang up the boots? Do you think he will make occasional appearances once he does retire? Discuss.

I read a couple months ago that, he is signed through 2012, and after that, he is seriously looking toward retirement.

At that time he will be 38 yrs old, and had a ton of surgeries. To be honest, he has nothing left to prove, so, there is no reason for him to further injure himself. As long as he is set, money wise, he should get out then.

I hope soon. I absolutely despise of Mysterio, just like Cena. They are boring and preach the same thing over and over again.

Mysterio needs to go as soon as possible, he's injury prone and annoying.

ahh dude youve only been watching mysterios matches since 2005? you dunno what youve missed he used to be over the top and insaine in the ring. youtube some of his earlyer matches youll most likely love em'! anyways i know his times nearly up coz hes almost nearly always hurt a bit like taker. In he back of his mind mysterio will know he has to pack it in soon for the sake of his heath. Hes made his millions most likely invested it wisely and his replacement(alberto) is ready. But you already know that :p i just hope mysterio goes to tna for at least a year coz the things he could teach aj and the x divison would be just unreal.

I could see Mysterio retiring when his contract expires. So yeah I give him a year or two more before I think he will retire. I won't miss seeing him go either. He is amazing in the ring but his character just seems stale to me these days. I think he needs to re-package his character and eventually taking the mask off before he retires. For those of you who seen his work at the end of WCW or on the indy scene after WCW, then you seen him without the mask but the modern fan has not. Younger kids don't know what he looks like and want it so bad. Sorry to go off topic, but yeah I give him three more years at tops and one year at minimum.

If WWE has signed Mistico and already have Del Rio, Mysterio may become an afterthought soon but I hope he gets a sending off because children love him. Maybe he can help put over Mistico as the new Mysterio of WWE and then go? What ever the case he will retire within the next 2-3 years because it seems his body can't hack it anymore.

But I'm predicting he'll take say a year off then come with an epic return and then do his farewells after a match @ Wrestlemania? or something along those lines...

Im 100% sure he will stay until his contract runs out(which is apparantly 2012). I dont see Rey wrestling past 2012. It seems like every single year he's got a knee injury or whatever else. Correct me if im wrong, but hasnt he had like 5+ knee surgerys? He's getting older, become one of the best, has nothing left to prove, is injury prone, made millions etc. The guy is set.

Theres no way we will see him after his contract expires. I dont think this guy is an idiot like ric flair.

Rey who? the Mexican guy who wares a mask and you'd to wrestle a fair bit?

Rey is to injury prone and WWE knows this and that is why Rey put over Del Rio recently and WWE signing other Mexican wrestlers because they know Rey is limited and retirement is around the corner.

I hope soon. I absolutely despise of Mysterio, just like Cena. They are boring and preach the same thing over and over again.

Mysterio needs to go as soon as possible, he's injury prone and annoying.

Dude Mysterio is awesome, yeah he might be injury prone, but if we get rid of everyone injury prone (regardless of their age) we'd be getting rid of a lot of fan favorites- HHH, Undertaker, Mysterio, Orton (who's been injured quite a bit), Cena (who's becoming more injury prone) and a bunch of other guys.

And then we'd be left with people like Dolph Ziggler, Alberto Del Rio and other people that fans can't stand.

We need to keep the fan favorites around as long as we can, and as long as they're still able to perform, and obviously Orton, Mysterio, Cena can still perform. We'll have to wait and see bout Taker and HHH.

Mysterio is just like alot of wrestlers unfortunately. They either get to old and refuse to leave, or they continue to injure themselves and get surgeries and then still refuse to leave. But it will take Mysterio to not be able to walk before he retires. I'd say he will leave well past 40, damn!

Edge is the big retirement set for next year... I can see Rey-Rey taking a more Taker or Piper like schedule, only doing 6 out of 12 PPV's or similar... he is a valuable commodity merch wise so WWE won't want to let him go completely for quite a while yet. Perhaps move him to a talk show segment or the announce table.

What he has become to what was in the ring is a shame but inevitable. He was doing stuff at 16 that was totally off the wall and damaging to a growing body... go and look at his early matches... he was always going to have injuries later in life. He will have to walk away or be a crippled older man...

I would see Rey as being in the same situation as Edge or Undertaker... They're not at all what they used to be in the ring, but experience and crowd adoration have kept them coming back, and being asked back. Personally, Rey Mysterio is someone I HATE to see in the WWE right now. Some of the guys he's been put over are people I feel should never have lost to him. Yeah I saw him in WCW in his masked youthful days, and I was a bigger fan of Juventud to tell you the truth, and Jericho even further. But in WWE Rey has been so much slower and I feel like I'd get a better show out of the younger guys who are still waiting to get a turn at the big time. I think it's time for him to go. 619? Personally my least favorite finisher. His other big spots are lame and have gotten really old now.
Rey, I know they love you, but you know the deal... go and spend the rest of your walking days with your kids while you still haven't disabled yourself permanently.

It wouldn't surprise me to see Mysterio retire once his current WWE deal expires. Mysterio turned 36 in mid-December and while he's still a young man for all intents and purpose, he's also a 22 year veteran. Given his size, Mysterio's best option for success was to adopt the high flying/spot aspects of the Lucha Libre style and it's taken a toll on him. It's really started to catch up with him over the course of the past several years. As a result, you probably won't see Mysterio wrestling well into his 40s like we see in a lot of other wrestlers. He probably just won't physically be able to do it.

Also, to be fair, the grueling touring schedule of the WWE has probably only added to the problems as well. But, you wanna make the big money, you gotta put in the work I guess.

Retirement wouldn't be shocking, but he's done enough to get a deal that takes him off the road, and keeps him on TV (Maybe working 70-80 dates a year). With the injuries, much like with HBK, this could keep his career going another 3-4 years. Mysterio would be a perfect candidate to get this kind of deal.

I do agree his act is getting stale. He's creative and talented enough to switch his character. I'd love to see him lead a stable, maybe challenge Nexus at some point. Something like the old No Limit Soldiers of WCW perhaps. Be interesting to see how WWE could make that work. He's never ditching the mask though.

I think rey doesn't have much time left probally until 2012,thats when his contract is up, but i think WWE will really have a void to fill, the colorful masked guy all the kids love, and the mask make big money for WWE and with the recent signing of mistico I would like to see mistico with 2 masked guys from FCW to start a masked stable maybe or just as mysterios final feud mysterion vs mistico and his 2 masked goons. Like i said the recent signing of mistico says that wwe might be looking to feel the masked guy void they will have soon

Rey has about a year or two left I believe. I will always be a Rey Mysterio fan no matter the negative criticisms of him. Injuries took a toll on his career in the later stages but he still can give anybody a great match. He's been huge for the Hispanic demographic for Smackdown and he's been one of the most over wrestlers in the last ten years and that can't be denied.

Hopefully not too much longer because Mysterio is for the PG marks so who cares about Mysterio. Let him hang up the boots and tell him he can take the PG garbage with him.

Rey Mysterio will always get the benefit of the doubt by me because out of all the DVD's I have Rey's Biggest Little Man DVD gave me the most bang for my buck. DVD is awesome. I agree Mysterio is not as insane as he used to be but every so often he will have a match that will simply blow you away, like his matches with Jericho in 2009 and his performance in the Elimination Chamber of that same year. He's got to stick around long enough to have one good match with Mistico.
