How Consistent A Wrestling Viewer Are You?

Pre-Show Stalwart
Have most people here watched wrestling consistently throughout their lives, or do you take an occasional break from the sport? I watched wrestling religiously from '84-'91. Then I didn't watch at all for about five years and got back into it around '96 or '97. Over the last two or three years I've gone from always watching, to sometimes watching to rarely watching.

It's probably a dumb thread idea, but I was just sitting here thinking I may be on the verge of another wrestling abandonment and wonder if others have ever done the same.

I watch TNA, ROH, WWL, WWC, AAA, NXT and Lucha Underground weekly. I watch NJPW shows when they pop up online. Except days long events like G1 because they're extremely long and pointless.

I don't miss Impact (although I have a delay) and I watch at least Raw or Smackdown once a week, as well as the WWE PPV's.

Used to catch NXT, but Neville as champ made me lose some interest.

I always watch PPVs, but I wont be watching RAW much anymore as Im trying to cut expenses, so I eliminated my cable box, and put up an antenna to get the local stations.

I'm also trying to get into NJPW.

I mainly watch January - Mania time but aside from that it's very sporadic.

Not as consistent as usual. I try to watch IMPACT and RAW each week but I'll miss one or the other now and again. I always watch one show per week at least.

I'll be honest with you, I rarely watch anymore but catch Lucha Underground when I can. I'm here for conversation mostly.

I watched it pretty much every week from 2007-2011. Was on and off after that. Then I got back into it in 2012 up until early 2013 where I gave it up for good. Just doesn't entertain me anymore.

Being in Australia I watch Raw if I'm home for it. If I miss it i'll read the results so I know whats going on. I watch NXT each week and every PPV thanks to the network. I dont even know if Impact is even on Australian tv anymore and I'm trying to get into Lucha Underground but its a struggle after 3-4 episodes, as in I watched the first two and lost interest then I went back and tried to catch up but after episode 6 it just feels like a chore.

I watch the full shows of ROH, NXT, NJPW and Lucha Underground. I used to never miss a Raw but have grown tired of it, so I usually skip it and catch up if anything worth watching happens. Haven't watched Smackdown in forever. Trying to give this new Impact a chance but might just do with it what I do with Raw.

Impact has been on TV for a week, you're judging so quick.

I mainly watch Impact and RAW every so often. ROH, not really as much as I used too. Lucha Underground I watch weekly. I have times where I get burnt out and take a break then get back into.

I never miss Raw or Smackdown. Been watching them since day one in both shows' cases. NXT I have been watching since the launch of The WWE Network. I watch each PPV. That's it at the moment in WWE.

I used to watch TNA, but have taken multiple breaks from watching them and recently gave up on them for good.

Raw (yet to miss an episode since its debut)
Smackdown (every week for years, seen most of them other than when we didn't hvae the channel)
Impact (every episode for years)
NXT (every episode ever)
Lucha Underground (every episode to date)

Every NXT ever. Watch it weekly, did so long before they were easily accessable.

Same for FCW for the last 3 or so months it was around.

Took a break from everything besides NXT for about two months this year. First time since 2005 I had missed any WWE programming.

Tried TNA for a good spell in 2010. Even bought their PPVs.

Used to be a faithful SD watcher, until it became awful in the last few years. 2003 - 2011 was jammin. Sad being that it was the best wrestling show on earth for a few years here and there.

Have given ROH a few tries, but I just don't know if its style and my preferences will ever mesh.

Right now the only thing I 100% consistently watch is NXT.

Raw is on just out of habit nowadays. I've rarely watched Smackdown since the brand split ended. Used to watch WWECW pretty regularly when it was on, it was how I kinda broke into the forums by taking part in the extremely sparse LD's with Norcal.

I watch NXT and Lucha Underground every week nowadays.

As for the years, I started in 96, watched regularly until around 2001, didn't watch until about 05/06 after Eddie passed away, been watching since.

Oh and as far as total veiwership,

Started with the SNME's back in the early 90s. Weekly veiwer all the way through the new generation and the AE, into the brand split, all the way til spring of 04.

Work then took me to places were I could not see it, and my first show of re-entry was Wrestlemania 21. Had no idea Hogan would show up. Me and the boys flipped the fuck out.

After WM21 til now, the only break in habit I have made was those two months just recently.

Took a very long break from the WWE(Only "Wrestling" company I have ever followed in terms of watching) around 2006-2013, mostly because I didn't have easy access to the programming, so I gave up following altogether. Ntm, I had grown disinterested with the WWE and pursued other interests in that time.

Started back watching on the post-SummerSlam 2013 RAW and have watched RAW every week since then. I rarely watch SmackDown! at all, usually I read spoilers and then decide if it worth it.
Whilst I've heard great things about NXT and enjoyed the last Takeover, I don't have access to the Network! and can't be arsed to make time to watch it.

I also watch all the PPVs since I restarted watching and of course, I read up on the forums and dirt sheets, etc, regularly to stay up to date with what's going on...

Grew up a dedicated WWF fan, probably starting watching religiously around 91, but only what was on cable, my parents would never splurge for PPVs.

Occassionally watched WCW during the Monday Night Wars era and ECW when I could find it on TV.

Pretty much stopped wrestling entirely from about 2004-2007, got back into WWE in 2008 and have watched RAW religiously ever since.

Watched PPV live streams online until the Network came out and I signed up for that.

I'm really digging Lucha Underground and watch it every week, along with RAW, NXT and all the WWE PPVs( or whatever they're called now). Can't remember the last episode of Smackdown I watched in its entirety, though I usually read the spoilers when I think about it.

Tried getting into TNA several times in the past couple of years, just does nothing for me.

A lot of great responses and I appreciate it. My first thread turned out better than I expected. It was interesting when people added what promotions they had watched in addition to their timelines. So I'll do the same.
When I first started watching, up until the early nineties, I didn't see much WWF. I'd sometimes catch the squash matches on Saturday mornings and looked forward to the rare SNME. My main source of wrestling was NWA on WTBS; AWA on a local network and then ESPN and WCCW on ESPN. I spent summers in the Midwest and got to see plenty of CWA wrestling, both live and on television.
In the late nineties I preferred Nitro and usually watched RAW as well. I got into ECW during its later years. I haven't seen NXT or Lucha Libre yet, but may give them a shot.
Funny how the WWF was always at or near the bottom of my favorite promotions and its the only one of them still standing today.

Not nearly as much as I used to be. I may watch RAW every once in a while, never watch Smackdown. Can't remember the last time I watched iMPACT, nor do I even know what day it comes on. Same with ROH. I do watch NXT when I remember to. I'm a shamed wrestling fan because of that.

  • NXT is religious watching for me
  • I keep up with WWE results and tune in when a segment/match comes highly-recommended
  • I've fallen behind in Lucha Underground & I cannot support them from Australia, thus my lack of watching
  • NJPW is getting my attention (especially with Wrestle Kingdom 9) & figuring out if NJPW World should make my subscription list

Everything else is off my radar. I'm willing to give others a go and I've heard/seen bits and pieces from many of the other companies but TNA will never make it back on my screen. They were my number 1 show on TV until Hogan & co. came into the company. Whatever they did killed everything I loved about TNA.

If this counts, I'm involved with an e-fed so some of the time I could spend watching wrestling I spend writing fiction about wrestling.

On and off, mostly off. Don't need more than one hour a month of that shit in my life, most of that is dedicated to re-watching Shield vs Wyatt's, or Daniel Bryan.
