I found this on the boxing forum i frequent, it tells the story of crack addicts in Lowell, Massachusets. This is a no holds barred documentary that features none other than Dick Eklund, the brother and trainer of Micky Ward as portrayed by Christian Bale in The Fighter.

I find it amazing that a man who trained such an exciting fighter was frequenting crack dens whilst training him, if you have a spare hour to throw away then i urge you to watch this, it is a fascinating insight into a world that most of us will never know.(hopefully)

I used to live about 15 minutes away from Lowell and it is one of the worst cities in the state, violence and drug wise. Most of it is a shit hole but with every city it has its good parts. It has a long history of hard workers being fucked, it was a big factory and mill city in the late 1800's all the way until recently. The people are generally nice, hard working, blue collar types but when you get fucked for so long from every direction it takes its toll on the city and its citizens. The gangs and drugs come from the closing of many factories, of which is the only good job someone could have there. The city I live in now has a similar history but is starting to rebuild itself after years of hardship.

I was shown the documentary in middle school in a health class. And watching it again it has the same effect on me as it did back then. Knowing people from the city and living so close to it, it is sad to see. Great documentary that shows some of the worst parts of life.
