That doesn't bode well for them, since they likely make extremely awful and cheap products.

Compaq, like Acer, is cheap. It will likely break a lot, which is why you get it so cheap.
All my computers and printers have been HP and they've been great. I once had a DVD drive stop working a month after buying a computer, and it was replaced quickly and free of charge. Haven't had an issue since.

And I had an HP label laptop before the Compaq and it wasn't very awesome either.
