Heated Feuds (not so much today)

So I was thinking back on some old feuds and you know some of them got really intense, but none more than the Hogan and Slaughter match at WrestleMania VII. I've read a few places now that slaughter and his family along with members of the WWE staff had recieved death threats, and I've also read that the origanal plans was to hold WrestleMania outside but it had to be moved inside at the last minute out of fear that Slaughter would be shot. Also a few years back Mahamad Husan (sorry for the spelling) but he was really hated also and alot of that had to do with his Iraqie background. But I honestly dont believe that we will see a character that is hated or a fued that gets that much heat anymore with todays product.

So my questions to you are.
1. Can you guys remember this Hogan Slaughter feud with so much heat.
2. Do you think the WWE or TNA can make a storyline or charater with that much heat.
3. If its a current Superstar/Wrestler who do you think it will be and how will this story/character get so hated?

1) Definitely remember the feud, it was at the height of the Gulf War so that was a big reason it got so much heat from the crowds. It was playing off real world hate, and thats the best kind of heat you can get.

2) TNA can't create any story worth a shit right now so no I don't think they can pull off anything like that storyline. WWE could if they would let feuds build over months at a time instead of hot shotting ever story line. The overabundance of PPVs has a lot to do with this. Story have no time to gain legs and mature before they cut out from under them with a very anticlimatic ending that comes to fast. So yeah if WWE were to change the way they are currently booking feuds sure they have the talent and know how to pull off something of this magnitude once again.

3) This part is hard to answer because I am not sure if there is a real world angle that they could play off right now to equal the hate that Slaughter was getting at the time. Remember that was a great american hero turning his back on his country during a time of war.

I did not grow up during the time of Hogan and Slaughter's fued, but I have seen their match at Wrestlemania. Everyone hated Slaughter. Heck, any one with any respect for America should have hated Slaughter's character.

Is it possible that we could see a super heated fued like that in today's wrestling? I don't know. It is possible. I mean, if something is booked right and you have the people's attention then perhaps it is possible to have a villian that people would want to shoot. But then again, the crowd these days suck compared to the crowd that witnessed Hogan and Slaughter's match at Wrestlemania. Our fans now don't seem to get into it like they did back then. If the people's attention could be got then perhaps some kind of heated rivalry and a hated villian could be stirred up.

I cannot really think of anyone today that could be hated so much besides maybe Micheal Cole, The Miz, CM Punk, or Wade Barrett.

I was real young for the Hogan/Slaughter feud, but have watched enough DVD's, YouTube videos, and documentaries to realize it was an amazing feud. I believe Slaughter partnered with the Iron Sheik during this time.

I don't see TNA creating any type of feud or character that can have anywhere near the head Slaughter had. Vince is a genius whether people want to admit it or not. The Muhammed Hussein character was great in my opinion, but Hussein left to "act in Hollywood" I believe.

As for a current talent...I cannot think of anyone. We've seen the Hart Foundation hating Canada back in the day...so that would be old news...and I don't see Vince bringing in a Japanese wrestler and trying to stir something up with them claiming the U.S. doesn't care about Japan or something crazy...That would leave Rey Mysterio and Sin Cara possibly trying to use some kind of Mexican/American storyline...Don't see it happening.

I remember that feud vividly what Sargent Slaughter did was unheard of ''turning his back on America'' when we were at war with Iraq in real life and the stuff that came out of his mouth was unreal WWF did have to move that year's Wrestle Mania indoors I still remember after Hogan beat him for The WWF Title when Slaughter and Gen. Adnoid ( sorry for the misspelling for his name ) was in hogans dressing room and they threw that fire ball in to his face as well that was and still is the most heated feuds I can remember right down to a t.

As for the questions.

1. Yes, I remember the feud vividly. The gulf war attributed directly to Slaughter's heat. WWE played that one out perfectly.

2. No, I don't think either WWE or TNA could recreate the type of heat Slaughter got during the Gulf War. TNA can't do it, because their booking isn't up to snuff, and WWE can't do it because they rarely use "real life" heat these days. Their desire to market the product to children would stop any "dangerous" type of real life heat to a certain degree as well.

3. I simply don't know. Answering hypothetical questions of this magnitude is sort of impossible. I mean, it could be anyone. For example, Alberto Del Rio could get massive heat if the "illegal mexican immigrants" situation hit an all time high while he actively laughed in it's face on television every week. I don't see anything like that happening, though.
