Have we seen the end of the term "midmajor" teams?

Mid Major. From what I read and understand, mid major is a term describing conferences that are outside of the big six who for the longest time only had that one automatic qualifying bid and maybe one bid depending on the outcome of their conference tournament.

So this year's NCAA tournament has shown us some crazy upsets. Northern Iowa has destroyed almost everyones brackets. 12th seeded Cornell has found itself in the Sweet 16, along with Saint Mary's, 11th seeded Washington (from the pac 10 which was thought to be extremely weak), and though they are seeded 4th, how about Baylor who is trying to overcome its troubled past and reach high in this postseason. Now most of these teams are outside of the major 6 conferences. The question though is are these teams really midmajor teams? I mean did we really see upsets in this tournament?

Now according to the seedings, yes these were very real upsets. But think about it. Teams like UNC, UConn, Kentucky, all now have one and done players. The smaller schools now have actual teams, players that stay together for more than a year. They have developed a relationship with each other and it shows. Just look at their records. Right now Butler has won 30 games, Northern Iowa 30 games, Saint Mary's 28, if you want to throw Purdue in there 29 games, Washington 26 games and Cornell 29 games. That's not a fluke. And if you were to look at there season you would see some high quality wins there.

So my question is is this the end of the term "midmajor team"? Are we going to be seeing more of these smaller schools coming up and showing they can compete with these bigger schools and actually beat them on a regular basis? Look at the swag some of the guys on these teams are showing. No longer are we seeing these power teams that have players who, although are NBA ready, staying for 3 or 4 years. These guys realize that too and have shown us that the landscape has changed.

I know I've kinda bounced around here with what I think but what do you think? Is the term now outdated? Are we seeing "midmajor" coming to an end?
