Has WWE run out of "shocking" moments?

JBM

Occasional Pre-Show
With the PG era firmly established and it looking like they aren't going to change that stance, I think WWE has backed themselves into a corner that they can't get out of, at least not anytime soon.

We've seen shocking returns from The Rock, Mick Foley, SCSA. We've had the Hulkster, Shawn Michaels, Bret Heart, Brock Lesnar, and Jake the Snake Roberts. Just about all the wrestlers from yesteryear that we once enjoyed in the golden era, the attitude era, or any other era you can come with...they've all gotten to surprise us one way or another.

Sting was possibly the last great shocker, even though we all knew it would happen one way or another. Who else is there that's going to make you say.."OMG, he/she's back"? Or "What H-E-double hockey sticks?" Maybe there's a few out there that some people really want to see, but there isn't a major superstar out there that will make a crowd blow up.

Combine that with the creative roadblocks brought on PG television, and all you're left with is the potential for shocking wrestling moments. Key word...wrestling. NXT Takeover has shown that those moments are still possible when creative allows for great stories to be told in the ring, but WWE has proven time and time again that they don't want that on the big shows. They like their cookie cutter matches that do nothing for most fans. They are stuck pleasing the likes of Mattel and Scooby Doo.

What do you think....is there still that "shocking moment" that can happen say in the next 5-10 years? I know some people will say "CM Punk"...it's only mandatory. But it ain't happenin I don't think.

Obviously, CM Punk is the main shocking moment that we can end up seeing that will shock us. Sometimes though it's the little moments. For example, that year Dolph Ziggler cashed in the MITB brief case. Amazing, shocking moment. When Paige came and defeated AJ Lee for the Divas championship. Also, very shocking.

Then sometimes it's big moments that were predictable but still do something unexpected. Undertaker returning, but with a new theme song? Wowness, on top of Triple H returning the same night, and to top it all off, he's going to face him at Wrestlemania? That was holy shit material.

We all knew Stone Cold and Hulk Hogan were going to be at Wrestlemania. Still, Austin coming to the ring was shocking because we thought he'd have a smaller subtle role. Then, The Rock's music hit. The three biggest stars, ever, all in the same ring together. Amazing.

Seth Rollins turning on the Shield, was another big moment, and Cena being eliminated in the Survivor Series match so quickly, by Big Show, with Ziggler winning help from Sting, was something that was just straight out unpredictable, except for the Sting part which I believe no one really did believe.

Now, big moments that CAN happen in the future? Shit, imagine if Stone Cold Steve Austin came back. Imagine the day that Rusev loses his streak, or if not, imagine if he never does lose it and wins a world championship? What if Goldberg comes back, or if Lesnar and Batista have a spontaneous stare down, leading up to a match at Wrestlemania? Imagine a babyface NXT superstar interfering randomly in a main event caliber match to turn heel and look strong? Imagine a Wyatt face turn against the authority.

There's so much that can be done. Especially since TNA isn't doing so well, and may be letting a lot of guys go this year. Imagine a Somoa Joe, or Kurt Angle, or Bully Ray, or Robert Roode coming into the WWE? That will be a huge deal for any of them. Hell, imagine if Abyss came to WWE? An Abyss vs. Kane feud would definitely give Kane a well deserved Wrestlemania moment, as well as an amazing way to send him off and give Abyss the ultimate rub.

Keep positive. WWE ain't done yet. Not by a long shot.

- Kurt Angle coming back and Angle Slam Rusev
- Samoa Joe appearing in NXT and giving Kevin Owens Muscle Buster
- Stone Cold returning for 1 more match
- Sting facing Undertaker at WM
- Vince retiring
- Cena's heel turn
- Ambrose hitting his finisher on Reigns in the final second of Roman vs Cena match and Rollins cashing in right after

There are some of them i come up with in just couple of seconds...WWE can (and should) still shock us if they want to.

I didn't even think about all the things that can be done by Reigns, Ambrose, and Rollins. Not to mention the stuff that can happen with Kevin Owens.

Honestly, the last REALLY shocking return that I can see is Goldberg. The dude is definitely still a big enough star (think Lesnar without the UFC career) and is probably one of those "mystery" guys that the young crowd would love to see, even without really understanding why he's so big in the wrestling industry.

Stone Cold is also up there, but he would have to return to participate in a match for it to be a truly shocking moment.

My respectful and personal opinion is that nobody on the TNA roster will be headed to WWE. Kurt Angle appears to be finishing up his career in TNA based on reports I've read on WZ. Samoa Joe wouldn't have that jaw dropping shock factor in WWE. Roode, Abyss...they would be great talents and work some awesome programs...but I don't see that "Holy Shit" moment with their debut's. Bully Ray would be great, but I believe he also re-up'd with TNA also...could be wrong, not sure. Regardless, as far as TNA talent WWE isn't bringing them in. They have their own pipeline to bring up fresh, new talent.

SCSA has made it perfectly clear that he's not coming back unless everything is perfect. Money, program, timing, training, etc..etc.. Though the possibility still exists, I haven't gotten the sense that it's gonna happen. If he did...then yes,...huge shock factor if done right. (Though knowing WWE, they'd probably announce it via satellite during a house show in Fairbanks, Alaska)

There are still plenty of shocking moments that can happen in wrestling. The most shocking thing that the WWE could do is have Brock Lesnar lose the title at WrestleMania to Dazvid Arquette...obviously

Jeff Jarrett returning to WWE. Sure, none of the kids would care at all, but for us it would be like....oh snap. What's he gonna do?

The potential storylines are too good. Jeff Jarrett vs HHH at WrestleMania. The two biggest Ego's collide. I remember back in 2002-2004. HHH used his Ego to dominate RAW while JJ copied him and dominated TNA at the same time with the whole "King of the mountain" stuff.

Kurt Angle's return would be amazing but again, only older fans know who he is. He would need to return at Royal Rumble, Pittsburgh or another hot city.

CM Punk's eventual return will be epic. Even if it is just the HoF, his speech would be filled with sick burns.

Vince McMahon dying.

WWE being sold to someone else.

Jeff Hardy & Tommy Dreamer...
They're no.. Rocks or Hogans

Imagine... if for example Wyatt vs Ambrose have a great WM match but their feud needs to end. So at the WM Revenge tour, Tommy comes and attacks Dean Ambrose to come heel and they have a great match at Extreme Rules! Just imagine Dean Ambrose .vs. Tommy Dreamer in Xtreme Rules...

Brock vs Cena at the Rumble is their last match so what if Triple H costs Cena the match and it's Triple H .vs. Cena.... if Triple H wins then Authority is back. So triple h wins and afterwards Jeff returns and challenges him at Extreme Rules if he wins they aren't can't return under any stipulation. If Triple H wins Jeff will be forced to leave.

Of course the chances of that are just as high as winning the lottery but anyway there are still loads of possiblitys of returns...
