Has Cena been given an attitude adjustment? (Personality change?)

Please forgive the cheesy thread title.

Seriously, though: on this last RAW, Cena had a couple of very entertaining mic segments, something I haven't found myself able to say in the past couple of months. He's solid on the stick usually, but the stuff he's been given has been corny and same old, same old for the most part.

Last night, however, he came off as much more natural and relaxed; none of the corny poop-talk, more attitude (especially against McMahon - are they teasing/testing something here?) and even his interaction with Dule was funny (the whole "Mark Henry's gonna remove your appendix the hard way" thing had me in chuckles).

Is this a move towards something more complex, or is it just a coincidence and am I reading too much into a couple of (for once) good promos? :twak:

I can easily remember his personality during the time he was doctor of thugonamics. He was exactly a new Rock.he was funny on the mic,he was heel at first then by the force of crowd he became face.I know Cena's real life personality is closer to what it was some years ago. This change of personality is just because of Vince and the idea he has about Cena ( being kids and females' Hero) & It is the only reason you see Cena as a Superman nowadays.

I bring two exciting examples :

2004 ,In Word life DVD Cena says: I think most of people think that I spend most of my time in gym,But it's wrong because I spend most of My time with Play Station 2!

2009,2009 Slammy Awards episode of RAW , Cena says:I lost to sheamus.I promise it won't happen again.how?Maybe you think by more training in gym , but it's actually impossible because i'm in gym most of my time!

You can see the difference in his attitude, And it is all because Vince wants him to do so.

I strongly believe that Cena could become another " The Rock " if he continued his word life gimmick.

I hope so. I've been very bored with Cena on the mic recently. Before last night, the only thing I can remember being entertained with recently was when Kofi was trying to talk and Cena was getting "Cena Sucks" chants, and he leaned over and said that he just ignores them. It was genuine, and obviously not scripted. I think the big reason nobody can get over in WWE anymore besides already established guys is because nothing seems real. It's all scripted, and it shows. It's all so corny (especially from Cody Rhodes/DiBiase). The only other guy who doesn't seem to be saying anything scripted is CM Punk, and that's because he actually lives this lifestyle. Jericho's heel character was best because it was Jericho. You don't make a star by giving him words to say, the star is already there and can carry his own weight. The Miz is another example of someone who seems to be doing this on his own. And it's entertaining, because it's real.

The backstage segment with Cena and the host (I can't get his name for the life of me) was top notch enjoyment. Cena was funny and more charismatic than he's been in recent memory. WWE needs to roll the ball with guys who have this talent of improv and being a "reality" star, not try to make guys with a look seem like a good talker. I would love to see Cena move into the tweener position, and I think he can really blossom into one of the greats if given that role, like the Rock and Austin.

I've said before that I like John Cena, the guy. He seems like a genuinely cool person and he'd probably be awesome to hang out with. John Cena, the character is just so boring and annoying. I'm not sure what I'd do to change his character other than make him heel because I never really liked his old gimmick either. To me it was just a bunch of dick and gay jokes.

As I said, I'm not sure how to change him. I don't like the Warrior promos he gives(I'm surprised he hasn't said he'll cause Randy's plane to go into a tailspin yet), I don't want him laidback like he was with DX, and I never really liked his rapper phase. He needs something new, not just a rehash of what he's done.

so what if cena is having an 'attitude adjustment'?! so many are tired of him, so many are wanting to see some type of change but his promo vs. mcmahon last night seemed to have a bit more edge to it... would be so easy to change cena into a heel in two hours of Raw but someone so over with so much of the crowd could benefit from a gradual change... but of attitude here and there sticking up for himself, sticking it to the man and then coming across a face and demolishing him, maybe involving a chair, let cena get wound up tight before snapping... could work, i mean, who thought AJ would heel-it-up with flair as a manager... want to see the old old old cena, with the arrogance of the guy who came out way back when when he stepped up to angle's locker room challenge all those years ago

Have to agree fully, last night for the first time i actually found John Cena well .... entertaining. I normally have to be dragged through his corny i lost it wont happen again suck up to the crowd and promote a match promos that he always does, but last night he seemed more edgy, and even a bit more relaxed and like he was doing what he wanted to do.

If WWE keep this route that would be good, he doesn't have to go heel like EVERYONE says or even have to change that much, just stop his sucking up to the crowd and mr good to shoes promos, give him a bit more edge and attitude and he will be more likable to the internet smarks.

lets face it, hate em or love em cena is a BIG draw for WWE. be it so that his recent mic work has been stale and a lil generic, i think its great that he spoke with a lil more edge last monday. if they keep this up with cena itll give ppl a freshher look at him while keeping the kid/female fanbase and adding some male fans as well. as far as im concerned i hope cena is getting an attitude adjustment. face or heel he needs a fresh take

I know people keep saying that they see Cena as a Rock type character, but last nights I'll knock your teeth out McMahon sounded much more like Stone Cold from the Attitude era. He sounded like the guy who was just sick of his boss and the crap he gives his talent, and he threatened to do something about it, and then McMahon punished him by making him wrestle his champion. This sounds very much like what McMahon and Austin went through in the early stages. Austin was never really a true heel though, because everyone loved him. This would be a perfect shift for Cena, as long as he didn't follow too closely in the Rattlesnake's shadow... Cena could still be over with the fans, and he could have alot more edginess and attitude. The kids could still love him, but their dad's who hate their bosses and want to knock their teeth out, could appreciate him too. Plus let's face it, when Cena pulled his shirt up and the women cheered for his appendectomy scar, he's never going to lose his female fans...

I wouldn't look at it as any kind of attitude adjustment or anything, and I wouldn't necessarily compare John Cena to The Rock either. I think last night he was just a little better than usual. I can agree that his promo on McMahon in the ring was good as was his segment with the guest host, but I still don't see what indicates anything different for Cena. He's been doing basically the same thing for quite a while now. What I think would be an interesting development from that whole ordeal would be if they ended up having McMahon go after Cena like he did Shawn Michaels and put him up against all kinds of insurmountable odds.

I don't know about the rest of you, but this different Cena I find much more watchable than this previous 'Word Life' gimmick. His promo with Vince was really well done and great use of the man. John Cena seems to be having this more 'Down to Earth' personality now on and off the camera and I like that because (in my opinion), it makes him as a person more believable and genuine.

I hope we see more of this, as this has definitely been an improvement on previous weeks.

Cena was great last night; for the first time in forever I enjoyed watching and hearing his promos, and he really impressed me and kind of reminded me why he's the face of WWE. Whatever this new...flavor (if you want to call it that), is that John Cena had this week, I hope WWE sticks with it because he sounds way more natural and way more genuine than all these crappy promos he's done recently where he totally sucks up to his fans in the crowd.

I'm hoping that what we saw transpire between McMahon and Cena last night on Raw is the beginning of a much needed heel turn for Cena. I'm not saying that would be in the best interst of the WWE since the kids love him and he is so marketable as a face, but it would make him less stale and generic. I'm hoping that when Hart appears on Raw that Cena comes out and plays like hes a huge fan of Hart and then talks about how he saw him wherever and then just totally beats the crap out of him, turning him heel. This in my opinion is a very good way to turn Cena heel. The crowd response to Hart and his return has been huge and it would take something pretty drastic to turn Cena heel at this point and I feel this would be it. Plus whoever sides with McMahon usually generates some good heel heat anyway. I would say this heel turn could be a lot like the Rock's heel turn when he joined the corporation years back.

As a massive John Cena fan i've been a fan of him since his rapper gimmck and Doctor of Thuganomic character and his work during 2006 and 2007 was great, but last year in 2009 it got a little boring for me and others but he always delivers. This week's RAW though with Cena confronting Vince was entertaining and its a good way to transition him into a heel but also a gradual character change. On a note i thought we were going to see Cena give Vince the AA.

The dude is the top dog. Love it or hate it, there's shit you can do about it. I love Cena. I am.. a Cena mark. I've followed his career since day numero uno. Cena has been developing a bit of an attitude, getting a little more serious and just refining his mic skills. I doubt there's really that much too it though, I think it's just another case of looking too far into it. I do it all the time.

You're on point as well Freddy, Cena's mic skills are getting more refined, but Cena can be slowly transitioned into a heel if WWE are willing to take a risk like they did with Batista turning him into a heel again, but the risk would pay off if Cena turned heel again. Cena would still be over and see a different side to him and maybe a even bigger move set (not complaining). For me im always entertained by John Cena and look forward to his Rumble performance and beyond.

I don't think there has been a fundamental change in his character, moreso I think that they are trying to make him a more relatable. Nobody can relate to superman, but by giving him a bit of an edge through arguing with McMahon, and moreso by making him try to avenge his defeat. I think Cena is an excellent mic worker, and I think he is ever evolving so that he can do his job better. Right now, I think Cena is just trying to make his message clear to more people.

Nah, not really. It's still the same Cena because he's always had some silliness in his promos, alongside seriousness. He could be receiving a different reaction from some of you since he has been standing up to McMahon. Standing up to McMahon has often been a great way for a face to get a good reaction. I don't think it will lead to a heel turn, or even a tweener turn, because this is still the same Cena. His (kayfabe) personality has always been a mix of silly, serious, and ruthless.... so this is nothing new.
