IGN just recently posted THIS STORY, and I found it to be insanely intriguing.

My original thought was Harry Potter, because I love the series. How's that for objectivity? But then I realized, Harry Potter is a terrible wizard... Do you know who was a good wizard? Voldemort. Harry would have been dead in Sorcerer's Stone if he weren't a SPOILER ALERT: horcrux. So no, he doesn't win as England's greatest hero, because although he was vital to saving the world from all manor of evil, he was also a whiny bitch for 90% of his tenure as a hero.

And as much as I love Sherlock Holmes, I'm just not sure he should be in the running. He's saved the queen, saved Great Britain, solved hundreds of cases... He's awesome, but he is on the same scale?

So for me it comes down to James Bond, or the Doctor. How many times has Bond saved not just his country, but the world? How many bad guys and terrorists has he put away? Then again, the Doctor has probably saved the universe more times than Bond can count... Then again, again, he causes 90% of the problems he eventually has to solve.

I don't know, what do you guys think?

I don't think Harry was very whiny at all, certainly not more than any other teenage boy - I'd argue he was considerably less so, especially considering that his parents were killed, he was raised under conditions bordering on child abuse, he was almost killed countless times at school, he was an outsider from the start of Hogwarts, and his 2 father figures in Sirius and Dumbledore were both killed months from each other, and much, much more. Potter FTW.

If you're disqualifying Holmes based on the level that he plays at, The Doctor trounces Bond every time. Come on, man. Consistency.

So it's either Quatermaine or King Arthur.

The Doctor's not British.

The Doctor is an alien. My pick (out of the options presented) is Holmes. With Bond a close second. Harry Potter is miles away from the both of them, Ron was where it was at in the Harry Potter series.

Sherlock all the way. The Doctor is an alien, Potter is almost a non-character, Bond was (until recently) a dick. I'd take Peter Pan over the other 3.

There can be only one choice

Juan Sanchez Villalobos Ramirez? He is Egyptian...:p

I vote for the the Doctor. While technically he is an alien, he spends more time galavanting around the UK than the queen does...and amazingly, despite being Gallifreyan by birth, he has saved the crown more times than anyone, ever. Further, it seems like 99% of all companions he chooses to travel with are British. If he isn't a Brit by blood, he'd certainly be a Brit by association. He has certainly adopted Britain as his home away from the Tardis. And he is much better than Bond. When Bond has to change actors, they simply hope you ignore it. When the Doctor switches actors, they write it in to the storyline because they were smart enough to give themselves a loophole.

If we're doing Bond vs Holmes it has to be Benedict Cumberbatch vs Sean Connery

On that basis he should be shot, twice, once during regeneration obviously.

Answer to thread question;

Oliver Cromwell

Betsy Braddock is one of Marvel's criminally underappreciated characters... Jessica Drew runs a close second but doesn't really rock the Britishness like Psylocke (I find Cpt. Britain and Union Jack pretty dull).

I assume some people probably think, "Oh, he's trying to be funny," for those who are unaware to the powers of one Jeremiah Kyle, allow me to showcase this man's exceptional analysis skills despite the fact he doesn't even have a qualification to hand out such advice as, "You should of put something on the end of it!"
