Great match openers for PPV's

Pre-Show Stalwart
I recently did a thread asking the worse main events in WWE/F PPV history so heres another good thread asking what are some of the best matches that a PPV has opened with heres my top 5 :

5. Kurt Angle vs Rey Mysterio-Summerslam 2002:
I was really surprised that after debuting Rey Mysterio had already had a match with a main eventer on the 2nd biggest ppv of the year. I was more surprised that this was the first match on the card though Just a great match with 2 men that have 2 completly different styles. The ending saw Kurt making Rey Rey tap via Angle lock

4. Kurt Angle vs Chris Jericho-No Way Out 2000
Awesome match by 2 future world champs over the IC and Europeon straps. The IC belt was in the ring, the referee was checking on Chyna, and when Jericho went for the Lionsault, Angle lifted the belt and Y2J got it right in the face. And got the pin for the victory

3.Jeff Hardy vs Chris Jericho-No Way Out 2003
Y2J defeated Jeff Hardy in a rather good match. The crowd was behind Jericho the whole way. Y2J had Bischoff ban Shawn Michaels from ringside, but after Chris won via the Walls of Jericho, Michaels came out and attacked him.

2. Edge vs Shawn Micheals-Royal Rumble 2005
I really never thought Edge would be past the mid cards but this match completly changed my mind. Great back and forth action. These 2 just click together very well. The ending saw Edge with the unexpected win.

1. Rey Mysterio vs Eddie Guerrero-Wrestlemania 2005
The best Mania opener theres been imo. Eddie and Rey just went out there and gave an excellent match. This was the match i enjoyed the 2nd most on the card(Angle and Shawn was first of course). Eddie delievered one of the most devasting tilt a whirl back breakers i've ever seen. Plus this match setup their great last feud over the summer.

So there are my top 5 best ppv match openers please let me know your opinion on your favorite match openers

Not sure the date.....but Royal Rumble when Taz came in vs Angle was a good match and the place was going nutz

awesome list I enjoyed Rey vs. Eddie as well :)
for me the best opener was Christian vs. Jack Swagger for the ECW title at Backlash '09, it was a great match many say the show stealer! The match had a great ending and made both Christian and Swagger look good! Through out most of it I was like "Oh my gosh, Christian Cage is getting demolished!" But than I remembered its scripted Lol. It made Cage look good 'coz it showed how resilient and smart he really is, especially the ending! It was also Christian's 1st world title win in the WWE thats the main reason for me! :)

Bret Hart vs Owen Hart-Wrestlemania X. Great match, two excellent technicians. Great storyline, great chemistry between the two. Many cool moves, high spots, and comebacks.

I'm surprised that neither person with pictures of Harts in their comments mentioned Bret vs. Owen from WrestleMania X. This was one of the greatest matches of all time regardless of it's spot on the card.

Another great Hart opener was the Hart Foundation vs. the Brain Busters from SummerSlam 89.

And another good Hart opener Bret Hart vs. Hakushi from the 1st In Your House in May 1995.

The Rockers vs. The Orient Express from Royal Rumble 91.

Mankind vs. Triple H from SummerSlam 97.

Chris Jericho vs. Shelton Benjamin from Backlash 05.

I'm sure there are more worth mentioning, but these are some that come to mind off the top of my head.

I've got two to choose from, all though I agree most of the one peole have mentioned are good!

Angle/Rey, summerslam, if i remember this was Rey's ppv debut or at least major ppv debut with the company and this stands out for me bc I was never a big wcw guy so I wasnt overly familar with rey and was just so incredibly impressed with the match these 2 put on (not to mention during this time period Kurt would have been able to have a good match with a broomstick, he was that good)

owen/bret, WM 10, the day owen became a serious top guy, just a great match that couldnt have been any better (except for maybe his saliva lol)
