GOP Governor On Forced Ultrasound: "Just Close Your Eyes"

So there's another law on the table for women that want to have abortions, proposed by Governor Tom Corbett of Pennsylvania. Now the doctor would be required by the state to put the image of the ultrasound in the woman's face, make her listen to the heartbeat, have it described to her, get a picture of the fetus, wait 24 hours, and then be told by another doctor (at the mandate of the state) how old the baby is. There's no evidence that I can find that says this is good for their health or that it's needed at all.

Corbett's response (paraphrased, it's in full in the article): "You can't make them watch. They can just close their eyes."

So we have something related to pregnancy and possibly something being put inside a woman's vagina (it might not be, that hasn't been announced yet) and while the woman may have no interest or desire for it, she can just close her eyes and it'll be all over.

I'll let that one sink in for a minute.

I cannot believe that in 2012, attitudes toward women like this are considered acceptable.

That is fucking deplorable.

For once I'm glad that British politics is bland, we have three parties but on things like this they are all pretty much smack bang in the middle of the road. America seems to truly be a theocracy sometimes.

Same here...and economics/taxation, foreign policy, morality...ahh hell, shoot all Republican politicians.
I am more a moderate when it comes to morality, not really leaning toward either side but tend to lean left in everything you mentioned. I do however lean to the right on immigration and making english the official language....The second one may not be right wing at all because some liberals support that. If I was anything maybe a blue dog democrat? Even though I maybe too left wing for them.

:wtf:

Sorry Sly, for once I do not follow you.
If we're going to have an "official" language, then it needs to be titled the American language, not the English language.

Of course, I'm not advocating an official language, but if we're going to have one, let's make it our own, at least in name if nothing else, not a bastardized version of the official language of the country whose people we killed 200 years ago.

Well, it is called American English. Something that came up out of influence of countless other languages. We are even developing something called American Spanish as it's kinda different from Latin American Spanish and Castillian...Or maybe thats Spanglish. But if we have any language as official the one spoken by 95% of the country to some degree for me makes the most sense. And it's the most common international language as well.

It would be North American Spanish. Keep in mind that that kooky speck o' land below you lot is America too. Silly Northern Americans!

But yeah, Sly has a point. At least in name, it would make sense.

Fun fact, because Perry refused (passed a law to exclude them) to give Medicaid funding to Planned Parenthood, Perry just lost Medicaids whole family planning funding for the state.

Just another reason to avoid Texas.

The way stupidity is rising in this country, I'm pretty sure we're gonna segregation & witch hunts make a comeback.

Also, Brawndo has what plants crave.

That's how we roll in the Keystone state. Our Republicans are still stuck in 1850 and our Democrats spend money like they're printing it in the basement. A third party? Nevah heard of it.
