Forum Files #16: The Next Big NXT Call Up

Welcome to My (And Not Sly's) House
Post in here until Monday January 29 for a chance to make the main page.

Today's topic: Who will be the next big NXT call up?

This weekend is a big time for WWE as they’re airing a string of shows from Philadelphia. One of these shows will be NXT Takeover: Philadelphia, featuring NXT’s top talent performing in the latest of their very well received shows. However, as entertaining as NXT can be, it’s still the official minor league for WWE, meaning some of these people will be coming up to the main roster.

So who is next? Who will be the next big name call up to the main roster? With the Royal Rumble this Sunday, there’s a chance that we might see some of them make the move in the very near future. Last year, Samoa Joe made his main roster debut the night after the 2017 Royal Rumble while Tye Dillinger made his debut in the Rumble itself. Let us know who you think will be next and see if your answer is good enough to get the call up to the main page.

I think the Authors of Pain will make their debut at the Royal Rumble or on either the post Rumble Raw or SmackDown. They're challenging for the NXT Tag Team Championship and if they don't regain the titles, which I think is all but guaranteed not to happen, then there's no reason for them to remain in NXT. If they are main roster bound, they should bring Paul Ellering with them as Akam and Rezar are a couple of guys who shouldn't talk very much. For one thing, the few times they do speak it's basically the old "scream as loud as you can" bit where they try to sound intense but not speaking often also lends them a mystique and they're also just a couple of bruisers who don't need to speak often. When delivering a verbal message is required, just have Paul do his thing with the gloom and doom the AOP bring and things'll be fine.

While I know this is a long shot, I wouldn't be surprised to see Lars Sullivan hit the main roster this weekend. Sullivan is doing quite well in NXT right now and I wouldn't be at all surprised if Vince just wants him called up. I don't think he's ready but he's far more ready than Braun Strowman was and SmackDown is in need of a monster heel. I don't think he'll be moving up anytime soon, but I think there's a slight chance of it and, as I said, it wouldn't be at all surprising as Vince has a love of any and all things alpha male and Sullivan's dominance as a monster heel fits in with that.

I agree with AOP being called up. They just lost again and they've already held the NXT tag titles. It's Undisputed Era's time so there isn't much for them to do. Now it's just a matter of where they go. Raw or SD? I'm gonna say probably Raw since they're trying to build Bludgeon Bros as dominant on SD. Couldn't really do that and have AOP there. Plus they need tag teams bad on Raw since it's always Rollins/Jordan vs The Bar.

I also think Bille Kay and Peyton Royce get called up too. With all of the new women coming out of Mae Young classic and Bazler and Sane's pushes, kinda hard for Royce and Kay to receive a title push.

I don’t see how it could be anyone other than the Iconic Duo. They’re over, their act is polished, they can do the same thing on either the main roster or in NXT, and their in-ring work is getting better and better every week. There’s even an open spot on the Raw roster after Paige went out due with her injury so putting the two of them on there doesn’t overload the roster all that much. Since it’s clear that they’re not going to win the Women’s Title in NXT, move them up and let them be something on the main roster instead.
