FMW is back!

Pre-Show Stalwart
For those that don't follow the Japanese wrestling scene, FMW is back!

FMW basically was Japan's version of ECW if ECW was allowed to be twice as violent. People like Terry Funk, Mick Foley, Mike Awesome, Masato Tanaka & Sabu spent time nearly killing themselves for the this promotion.

IIRC Terry Funk announced his first retirement after a match he had in FMW.

From what I understand Choden Senshi Battleranger, Hideki Takahashi & Hayabusa are doing the business side of this project with Onita's blessing.

It's good to hear Hayabusa is able to get around even though it's still easier for him to move around in a wheelchair after his spine injury.

They had 1,200 at their first show yesterday, so they've gotten a strong start.

Does FMW returning excite you at all?

No. It was a crazy promotion with a crazy wrestling style that while keeping a lot of people employed, was largely a vanity project for Onita and ruined the lives of several people involved in it.

Onita is one f***ed up individual. Some of the matches he, and the promotion, had, were ridiculous.

A Japanese ECW could work - but FMW is more like the equivalent of, and spiritual predecessor of, CZW, and I'm not really a fan of 'garbage wrestling' myself.

Still, 1200 is a healthy crowd, and shows there's still life in wrestling yet!

Man, I loved watching FMW back in the day, I got so much joy from watching Hayabusa, Terry Funk, Mick Foley, Mike Awesome, Masato Tanaka, Sabu, Jinsei Shizaki, Megumi Kudo and others in this company. I loved the crossovers they did with ECW. But I can't say I'm excited for it's return or that I'm gonna watch, it just won't feel like the same company for me in 2015.

I think there is probably still a niche for this ultra-violent style of wrestling in Japan- CZW remaining active in the US shows that there are fans out there, so I'm interested to see how FMW does in its return.

The original promotion went way too far though, I'm surprised that some of those matches were allowed to be legally done, the wrestlers were mutilating themselves alot of the time, it was ridiculous. Exploding rings? Fucking Hell, why?

I've seen a few FMW matches out of morbid curiously as I do enjoy the more violent WWE and ECW matches, but FMW isn't something I could watch a lot of, it's too far.

I don't mind hardcore wrestling but FMW and W*ing just became garbage wrestling. Like CZW, the gore became a little too much. I would think FMW paid pretty decent but I can't see why the CZW guys mutilated themselves for probably shit money.

You mean to tell me that the debt to the Yakuza Shoichi Arai amassed in trying to keep FMW alive has finally been paid off? The life insurance policy was never enough to pay off the debts, so I am a bit surprised that they let FMW back up. That said, 1200 is a pretty good crowd for extreme wrestling.
