Kane vs Drew McIntyre

This rather unique match was made on Smackdown last night which will see The Chosen One by Vince McMahon, Drew McIntyre defend the IC Title against The Big Red Machine, Kane.

This match came as a result of a match on Smackdown which began with McIntyre saying how he didn't care who he was going to face that evening, and didn't want to know who his opponent was in advance because he felt he was "unstoppable". So ... out came Kane. And the match ended in a Double Countout, so nothing was settled. That resulted in this match being signed for Elimination Chamber.

Normally, I would try to present reasons for why either side may have a chance at winning the match, no matter how big or how small those chances are, but I actually laugh at myself in trying to come up with a reason why Kane would actually win this contest.

So yeah, this match will be used as filler to try and establish credibility for McIntyre by beating Kane, which really doesn't mean all that much these days anyway.

But obviously if you disagree, feel free. I just think based on Kane's past, he has jobbed time and time and time and time again, to the point that its ridiculous to assume he will ever receive another push again.

I definately agree with you about Kane, even when he was in the beat the clock and EC match qualifier he is just there because of his past. But to the match Mcintyre win via pinfall by the Future Shock after Kane misses his flying clothesline about 10:00 into it.
But I would like to see Kane win but it just doesnt seem possible nor probable.

I am going to have to go with Drew for this one. They are going to keep his undefeated streak running, for as long as possible.

I don't care what other people think or say. I want Kane to win. He may look crap at the moment, but if he wins, he can be pushed back up.

Plus, I want Drew to move up on the card even further, so ya know... :)

interesting... but even though it would be very far fetched imagine kane wins and after smackdown with the brothers of destruction laying the smack down in the ring after the ME how awesome would it be for Kane to get another run, even a month or so and losing it at wrestlemania it would be sweet to see the strap on Kane again...
(dont blame me if this reads bad im really hungover)

Why cant Kane win??!! To me Kane looks like a credible champion. He has a great character. Undertaker and Kane as champions together will be great for the show (assuming that undertaker retains in EC).
If its anyones problem that Kane is made to look weak its the wwe's booking!!

I am a big fan of Kane's and its really sad to see wwe not using kane to his full potential!!
But now that he has been given a chance then atleast if he doesn win, i hope he has a good feud with Drew, that may even go to WM.

I wish Kane would win as he hasn't had a decent push in years let alone a title run. The closest thing he has had to a push was a feud with Edge that had to end pre-maturely when Edge got injured so the WWE decided to give the title to Khali! (Don't get me started on that one)

McIntyre is winning this, no doubt about it, at best for Kane I could see a DQ or another double count out. They are pushing him to the main event sooner or later, so they use the "jobber to the stars" Kane to help that along. I find it funny that Kane is still scene as a dominating force when he loses to almost everyone they put in front of him.

Kane vs Drew McIntyre

But obviously if you disagree, feel free. I just think based on Kane's past, he has jobbed time and time and time and time again, to the point that its ridiculous to assume he will ever receive another push again.

There is one thing I don't agree with here. Kane hasn't jobbed time and time and time and time again, but rather TIME and TIME and TIME and TIME and TIME and TIME and TIME... again.

This is rather undeserving because Kane has bust his butt in the E for approaching 13 years now, and his reward for that is a botched one day WWE title reign, and an ECW title reign (yeah, he's been IC and Tag champ before, but so has Road Dogg, Billy Gunn, and the Godfather).

BUT I DIGRESS...

I am glad that they even considered Kane to be a contender (albeit for naught), but it would just make my day if Kane loses at EC, but demands a rematch at WM and wins! :icon_razz:

Personally this comes across as a test for Drew before they appraoch the big show, WM. If he cant pull out a decent match with a veteran like Kane, then i imagine that Drew will either drop the strap before WM, or he'll keep it, but will be included into MITB rather than defending the title. There's usually at least one mid-card title holder in each MITB match, and this year i think it'll be Drew.

I also don't see Drew getting a clean victory over Kane. I think there'll be some kind of random run-in by some obscure talent like Big Zeke, who'll cost Kane the match, or Drew will either get disqualified because the super-heavyweight is totally owning him, or he'll cheat and the ref won't notice, and he'll win that way.

Anyway, Drew won't drop the strap at EC, but depending on how well this match goes over will determine how long he remains the IC champ. The sad part is, is if Kane is the one who's letting the match down due to how slow he is now, then the blame will still go to McIntyre for being the new guy, so hopefully the match will be decent and both guys will be able to progress from there, although the likelihood is that Kane will stya where he is until they think of another reason for him to go ape shit, and Drew will continue his current push.

Drew will most likely win this exchange, he hasn't been champion but a few months, and unless they plan on having him show up and take Morrison's spot in the Elimination chamber, and for some reason winning it, then i see no reason for him to drop it to Kane YET.

However, i disagree with sidious's opinion on Kane, i feel they could easily give Kane a proper reign as champ, and the fans would probably be all for it. He is just as over as most of the main-eventers in WWE, hell, he even had the fans mimic his "raise the fire" taunt/gimmick last night, and a nice mid-card champion run will do good for Kane, and the people he puts over, give him some credibility back at least in the short run.

I say have Drew retain, albeit through dubious means, keep this fued for a bit, and have Kane go over at Wrestlemania or Backlash, give him a bone for being probably the most loyal member of the WWE roster, most people in his position would have jumped ship, but he has stayed on. I'd enjoy seeing him as champion at least on last time.

I definitely agree with this. With Morrison's "injury", someone could easily take his place in the Smackdown! EC, and why not have it be someone who lost their title earlier that night? Edge did it last year, entering 2 EC matches in one night, and it worked out.

So.... I see McIntyre getting himself DQ'ed at first, and then make Teddy Long come out and make a rematch, a No DQ match, where Kane wins after a good match. In the main event (or before the main event), the Smackdown EC will take place, and McIntyre will enter for Morrison, and can receive the title here, if he enters last, and rolls up the last person in there, when they are mistakenly convinced they won.

This match is just to build Drew up. Drew gets to successfully defend his title and gain some credibility be defeating a "monster". I will be VERY surprised if Kane wins. This is really just a filer match and they couldn't give it to John Morrison because he's injured and was in the Chamber anyway, and Dolph Ziggler's had his shots.

Drew to win handily.

I like the idea of WWE giving Kane this title shot, even though we all know he has no chance at winning. Kane's days of winning a belt are over, but he is still considered a good win for whoever he faces. McIntyre needs to keep this momentum going, and I see him beating The Big Red Machine at Elimination Chamber.

Drew McIntyre is going to win this one. I really can't see Kane walking out EC with the IC title. Don't get me wrong, I'm a big fan of Kane, but he is all about putting talent over at this point. McIntyre could use the rub. McIntyre is one of the best things going on SD and he is one of my favorite stars in the business. McIntyre hasn't lost a singles match (by pinfall) since he came back to the E and I doubt Kane will be the first guy to do so. McIntyre wins this match and then goes onto WM where he will participate in the MITB and stand a solid chance of winning the briefcase.

I voted for MCIntyre. I so badly wanted to go with Kane, but I agree with the masses. Kanes past few years have seen him become nothing more then enhancement talent. He and Drew had a fun brawl last night, and I think they could again at EC.

That being said, I see them pulling the same stuff theylve pulled every time Kanes challenged for a title over the past few years.'

1. He loses clean. 2. Belt shot to the head behind the refs back for the cheap win. 3. Kane wins the match by countout or DQ.

Being that I feel theyre going to want to continue to push McIntyre as being "undefeated" I think choice number 2 is the most likely scenario that will unfold.

I like this one. I like Drew, & I'm a big fan of Kane. I think he needs one last nice push before his time is up in WWE. But that's just me...I guess I'd say Drew wins this one, but if they put it on Kane, maybe Drew will be Mr. MITB?!

And sorry, it has nothing to do with this, but I hope now that an I.C. title is announced, I hope Miz doesn't defend against MVP at the PPV. I wouldn't mind seeing MizShow vs. Edge & Christian!!! (Which MizShow would win), but it'll give Edge something to do, unless they put against Batista. But then what'll HBK do? Lol, still say HBK shouldn't face Taker, and he should go against HHH at Mania, but hey, that's just me. Sorry for making this long and adding the other things that didn't have to do with the original topic.

I'm a huge kane fan I always root for him win he goes against people like jericho or batista. I really would like to see kane win the title but sadly I don't think that's going to happen. Even though I voted for kane for who would leave EC as champion doesn't mean I think he will win no matter how great that would be. We haven't seen kane as any type of champion since he lost the ECW championship. I really want kane to win but I just don't see it happening.

Since it would make no sense for Kane to win this match, my pick goes to McIntyre. They're doing this match to make him seem more impressive. If McIntyre beats the Big Red Jobber, he will probably have more credibility in other people's eyes. Kane doesn't need the title, and McIntyre needs to keep it so he can still be undefeated (in singles competition) and still be a champion.

It's nice to see Kane feuding for a titles again but I can't think of any reason why Kane would walk out the PPV with the championship. If WWE is serious about pushing McIntyre then having him win is the most logical result. If McIntyre loses, then his credibility may be damaged especially considering that Kane has been jobbing for a long time and his only memorable wins recently have been against Dolph Ziggler and Mike Knox.

You wouldn't believe how ecstatic I was when I found out that this match was made official at Elimination Chamber. Watching this match on Smackdown surprisingly entertained me quite a bit. However, after reading what everyone else had to say about this match, it has really made me very disappointed. I had actually believed that Kane had a chance to win the Intercontinental Championship, but now, I realize that I most likely shouldn't have.

Drew McIntyre has been getting a great and steady push from his debut to now. He's been a very good champion so far. However, Kane hasn't held a championship in over 20 months... he deserves some sort of push, or better, a championship. Despite what a lot of people may think, a clean loss to Kane, this close to Wrestlemania actually isn't a very bad idea. If he is IC Champion, it likely means that he won't win the MitB. If he's no longer champion, and he's in the match, then it gives him a better chance to become Mr. Money in the Bank.

Considering the way Todd Grisham and Matt Striker continue to put over Kane as a "monster", it would, in no way, jeopardize Drew McIntyre's push. This is all of course my opinion. I love Kane and I hate the way he's been booked in the past, I don't know... 4,5 years.

Prediction: Drew McIntyre retains the Intercontinental Championship.

I would be completely suprised if Kane walked out of EC as the new IC champ. I wouldn't completely rule out Kane winning by DQ, but there is no real point in having McIntyre drop the title at this stage. I wouldn't bet on this being a particularly long match or particularly entertaining to be honest. This is all about McIntyre's credibility being built up by, hopefully, pinning a monster and veteran like Kane. At the end of the day, that's not a bad thing and this match makes a lot of sense. This will just be filler in between the Chamber matches but it's more about the result and the advancement of McIntyre than the spectacle itself.

Well I hope this match is as obvious to the rest of you. No way is Kane winning here unless they are entering a program. But I just see this match as a way to put over Vince's chosen champion.

Kane is a jobber now and beating him still somehow gives you reputation. They just play some old Kane videos and it looks like Drew killed a monster. Look for a boring match with a dirty win by Drew near the 9 minute mark.

Drew is most likely going to come away with the win here. I don't think Kane has a chance in hell at winning this match. He's just there to make Drew look like a credible champion, and him beating Kane will help that happen. I don't even think this will turn into a feud because this match just seems too random. Although, it is nice to see Kane in a title match on ppv.

One, I disagree that this is a "filler" match. We are talking about a PPV that is built on the strength of the Elimination Chamber and with both Raw and Smackdown! being represented in an Elimination Chamber then EVERY OTHER MATCH on the card would have to be deemed "filler" because it's not the main attraction.

I won't buy into "filler" especially when it's for the Intercontinental Championship which, by the way, since coming to Smackdown! has picked up lots of credibility through very competitive feuds between Rey and Jericho, and then Rey and Ziggler, Morrison and Ziggler, and then Morrison and McIntyre.

I don't see Kane winning, but again, I think this could very well be a test run for Wrestlemania. Drew McIntyre is deemed a "future World Champion personally hand-picked and signed by Mr. McMahon." He needs a notable match at Wrestlemania and I just don't know if that notable match is mixed in with 7 other mid-carders in the Money In The Bank match.

I could see a few scenarios here.

1) McIntyre loses via DQ or he is purposely counted out. This scenario, assuming the match goes well, adds a little fuel to the fire, and this can continue and give the Intercontinental Champion a title defense against Kane at Wrestlemania. It will build up nicely considering it'll be for the title and to end his undefeated streak.

2) McIntyre wins with interference by Big Zeke, setting up Kane and Ezekiel for Wrestlemania with McIntyre moving on.

3) After a competitive match, Kane gets frustrated that he can't put Drew away, so Kane gets DQ'd just to take him out and the program continues.

Either way, Kane is still over. He gets big pops and good reactions everytime he's out there. Plus, Kane won at 4 straight PPV's last year, so the jobbing is a little blown out of proportion.

When Kane starts losing CLEANLY every week we'll talk, but he loses cleanly once in a blue moon. And he does pick up his share of wins too.

Of course Drew wins this one here, but he gets to win over Kane. Kane does lose a lot of matches these days, but he is still an impressive talent to go over. Drew McIntyre needs to be built up more and more, so a pay per view match, one of the few one on one matches on the card is a great way to do it. There are two ways he can go over, he can either go over by beating Kane cleanly, which doesn't seem that farfetched, or he can win by using other means, making him look better than Kane, and it brings out heel tactics in him.
