On last night's Raw, during the highly energetic six man tag team match, Seth Rollins surprised me by ultimately leaving Ambrose & Reigns high and dry in their match against The Wyatt Family. I liked the storytelling with Rollins ultimately getting fed up with trying to keep things cohesive amidst the childish squabbling of Ambrose & Reigns. During the match, for instance, Ambrose's temper got the best of him and he ran around to the other side of the ring, with Reigns in tow to try and keep things cool. At the same time, Rollins made it to the corner to make the tag only to find it empty. Initially, I thought they were gonna continue down the road of making it seem like that Ambrose's instability was ultimately gonna cost The Shield another victory. He "disappeared" at the Rumble, with the presumption being that Wyatt was able to lay him out backstage somewhere, and I looked for some screw up on his part to cost them. Rollins, after he jumped off the apron, told Reigns he was tired of being the glue that held everything together. He didn't go to the back, but watched with what looked, to me at least, like an torn expression of wanting to go back but also feeling that Ambrose was getting what he deserved.
Generally speaking, Rollins really has been the one in the role of peacekeeper while Reigns & Ambrose's egos have started to run wild. I thought it was a nice change, especially when you consider how strong Rollins is inside the ring. I'm thinking that last night was the start of Rollins essentially saying that he's as important to the group as Reigns & Ambrose and that he's got a lot more to contribute to the business than simply making sure Reigns & Ambrose don't kill each other. As a result, I'm thinking that WWE is going forward with a triple threat match between them at WrestleMania with the US title on the line.
