So today I heard my teacher and some of my fellow classmates discussing football (soccer) with the Danish football league (SAS ligaen.. yes ligaen = the league) by a team called AGF (Århus Gymnastik Forening = Århus Gymnastic Association) they're in the button (11 out of 12 teams with 38 points, you know how it functions if you follow the soccer leagues)
Matter fact here's the table:
This team has a pretty decent fan base, pretty big you could even go as far as to say (for a danish team to say the least, considering they're not that good.. obviously) and my teacher then spewed out (what I found to be absolute nonsense) that considering they could fill a stadium with people for a low-profile match, would be enough to make up for their score and he therefore thought they should be kept in the SAS Liga (it's Denmarks best league, so they'd be moving down if they don't improve) due to their ability to draw people, and instantly I replied "Not necessarily, seeing as it's not about entertainment but about winning matches, if they can't hold up wit the rest of the teams, shouldn't they automatically be gone then?" and I went on to say "If they're real fans, they'll follow the team, not the league"
And it got me thinking, should the ability to draw an audience automatically make up for the lacking abilities to actually win the matches?
So I ask you, would you say that the ability to draw people to watch matches justifies the choice of leaving them in the bigger leagues? or should they be bumped down either way because they can't match their opponents?
