Do you believe any Conspiracy Theories?

There are some posters on here, the internet of all places, who are clearly conspiracy theorists to some extent, so I thought it would be interesting if people talked about the ones they believed in, and maybe we could get a bit of conversation going on a few of them. I'll post a few of the most common ones (which I don't necessarily buy into) to get us started, but by all means post your own and state why you believe them.

1. 9/11

Official Story: Al qaeda terrorist are instructed by Osama Bin Laden to hijack commercial planes and fly them into major US Landmarks. The passengers of one, flight United 93, seize control of the plane back and prevent it reaching its target.

Conspiracy: Oh, there's millions. The most generic ones are that it was some sort of inside job/Israel and that it wasn't all as it seems. The softest is that United 93 was shot down by US fighters to prevent catastrophe.

2. John F. Kennedy Assassination

Official Story: President John F. Kennedy is killed by Lee Harvey Oswald, who shoots from the fourth floor of the Texas Schools Book Depository.

Conspiracy: Amongst others, a second shooter stationed on the grassy knoll in front of the Presidential procession. The FBI, CIA and Lyndon B. Johnson have all, at some point, been implicated.

3. Moon Landing

Official Story: Apollo 11 landed on the Moon on 20 July 1969, with Neil Armstrong being the first man to set foot on its surface.

Conspiracy: The US never went to the moon, and the whole thing was staged in a Hollywood Studio.

4. Roswell

Official Story: An experimental weather balloon crashes in Roswell, New Mexico in 1947

Conspiracy: An alien space craft crashes in Roswell, New Mexico in 1947. Its technology is harvested and its occupants are autopsied.

Conspiracy theories are fun, I like to believe some of them that make sense, because I like researching on things to find out truths. 9-11 is a touchy one, and I'm not American so I won't go near that one.

You posted about John F. Kennedy having a theory that I could be the FBI, CIA, or Lyndon B.. I have no idea who/what Lyndon is, but I'll give you another possible theory, I had a chat with my mother the other day about this, actually. Apparently, JFK was a big associate with the mafia. There is speculation that he either owed them a lot of money, or they owed him, and didn't want to pay up. Also, they say that either JFK was funding the mafia, or vice-versa. If the mafia was funding him, maybe they got sick of it. If he was funding them, maybe they felt he wasn't giving them enough. But that's all I can say about that one, it's well before my time.

The moon landing I believe was very true. R.I.P Neil Armstrong. Nothing else on that one.

As for Roswell, I do believe it was alien technology. I strongly believe in the Area 51 hype, that relates to this, also. It's bogus to state we are the only life in the Universe, especially considering we were made from material in space, and they have since found all the needed chemicals to create life, if properly blended. So who's to say there is no aliens? If it was just a weather balloon, why hide it to this day? Why not show everyone "hey, here's the balloon, shut up now."? I personally believe that the main reasons aliens haven't fully contacted us, or landed here, is because of mass stupidity. They know damn well if they land the US will try to kill them or capture them and study them, even though they'd clearly be able to whoop our asses and blow our planet to bits. We'll have contact with aliens once Darwinism takes over, the idiotic die off, and we as a race have come to peace, stopped war, and really increased our brain capacity.

How about the FEMA box theory? That they are storing a bunch of black coffins, to eventually put all United States citizens into them & lead them into a concentration camp of sorts? There is another, quite modern, theory that can have some discussion in the thread.

The conspiracy I believe in most is that there is no gold at Ft. Knox. I believe we spent it all on wepons for foreign armies. I believe the last president to even see it was either Ford or Reagan.

I don't believe any of the 9/11 conspiracies. In fact, I have yet to hear anyone speak on such conspiracies who didn't clearly have some sort of mental disorder.

The other ones, I don't really know. Never looked into it too much, though I've always heard from an awful lot of intelligent people that the JFK assassination was bullshit. Not enough info for to me to think definitively one way or the other.

There is one conspiracy theory that I have a little bit of an understanding of which leads me to believe that what we've been told is untrue; the suicide of Kurt Cobain. Again, I'm not an idiot so I won't claim to know one way or the other. Just that a lot of the information doesn't seem to add up. Fuck it's been so long since I've looked into it, I don't even remember why I believed the naysayers in the first place.

Oh well.

Of the ones that were listed, Roswell is the one I am most apt to believe is a cover up. I am interested in UFOs and cryptids and all that fancy late night History channel stuff.

The JFK story is a popular one. Both sides have valid points and can make convincing arguments.

Nate mentioned the Cobain suicide. I was still a little kid when it happened but I vaguely remember some conspiracy theories over the years. I don't remember or know enough to comment on it though.

There is another musician, Elliott Smith, who has some conspiracy theories surrounding his death. He supposedly killed himself in '03 but a lot of the evidence didn't add up. If you have ever heard his music, it isn't a stretch to believe he was deeply depressed, but among the things that didn't add up are the suicide note, in which his name was misspelled. He apparently killed himself by a self inflicted stab wound to the chest, but the angle at which the knife went in was next to impossible to replicate as a self inflicted injury, and his then gf, who was in the apartment when he died has mixed her story up on multiple occasions.

There’s way too much evidence that proofs 9/11 to be a inside job I could write so much about that i should make my own thread discussing that. I mean the buildings crashing to the ground in such little time. There was defiantly a bunch of bombs in the World Trade Center. Look at Building 7 it wasn't even hit by a plane. How come the only time in the history of a plane crash the black boxes weren’t found but somehow we managed to find the passport that one of the hijackers was carrying on him while he drove into the plane? It's impossible for those buildings to fall the way they did

For JFK there’s also way too much evidence that proofs that Lee Harvey Oswald wasn't the only person involved in his murder. Look at the magic bullet that should be enough evidence

The JFK assassination was almost by it's definition a conspiracy, it obviously can't be put down as an accident. I've read and seen far too much to ever believe the simple story that's been told, the Zapruda video itself should confirm that there was a 2nd shooter by the way JFK reacts to being shot. Typically, bullets don't pull you backwards towards where they've been fired from :suspic:

I do like listening to conspiracy theories they're nce stories, some are more plausable than others. I don't believe the majority of them but there are some that have perked my interest.

I have thought the Kurt Cobain suicide thing was strange. Not that I believe that Courtney Love had anything to do with it. (Heck I've heard people claim Dave Grohl had something to do with it) but it does seem strange for a man to inject so much heroin he'd be dead in a while anyway to then shoot himself.

Also Richey Edwards from the Manic Street Preachers. Mainly because he disappeared and his body has never been found kind of allows an infinite amount of conspiracy theories such as he jumped from the Severn Bridge in Wales, he's alive on an island/India or wherever, he's living in a monastary and the band may actually know where he is.

I also do find the story of Bruce and Brandon Lee being cursed quite interesting seeing as they died pretty much 20 years apart and before the release of the film that would make them really famous. But that leads into supernatural stuff which is a whole different kettle of fish.

From what I've read and what my parents told me, the assassination attempt on President Ronald Reagan by John Hinckley, Jr. on March 30, 1981 might have contained a hoax, or at least an opportunistic grab at headlines.

My Dad remembered news reports early in the day saying that shots were fired at Reagan, but he was unharmed. Then, as the motorcade proceeded to the hospital to administer to Press Secretary James Brady (who was shot, along with two others), the media informed us that Reagan had been shot.....in the chest. The updated reports got more and more severe as the evening went on, until later that night when news services reported Reagan as being "close to death."

During his stay in the hospital, which included a 2-hour surgery, the doctors marveled that the 70-year-old Reagan had the physiology of a 25-year-old. He came out of the hospital two weeks later, well-rested and with his popularity polls soaring as the nation proclaimed him a hero.

My folks said that since reports early in the day stated clearly that the President was unhurt, they wondered if the whole episode was falsified to make a better media event.

At any rate, if it was a ruse, it hurt no one. Not that our government should be lying to us in any form, of course.

A few years ago, when I really began researching conspiracy theories I started stumbling on stories of the Illuminati, now I'm convinced that it is not only a real organization, but they are well on their way (scary close) to obtaining their ultimate goal which is a "one world order". And I'm not talking about Hogan, Nash and Hall

9/11 on the surface, is open and shut. But when you consider that Bush was looking for a reason to invade Iraq it really isn't.

JFK's assassination screams conspiracy. Like an above poster said, bullets don't pull, they push.

I'm going to add in the Robert Kennedy assassination. The guy who shot him used a gun that only held 8 bullets but Robert had 13 bullet wounds including one behind the ear that suggests that there was a shooter behind him plus when you factor in that there was a bullet hole in the wall BEHIND the initial shooter who was in front of RFK.

If you are looking for conspiracy theories that provide believable evidence I'd advise reading Jesse Ventura's conspiracy theory books.

I don't believe any conspiracy theories and I don't consider myself a conspiracy theorist. Why? Because conspiracy theorists are dogmatic. In the face of all evidence, in my experience, they will maintain their moronic stance.

"Oh, you believe 9/11 was an inside job? Well listen to this expert tell you why you're talking shit. Oh, you don't believe this expert? Well shit. It must be an inside job."

And that works on the vast majority of conspiracy theories. Just replace "9/11" with "moon landing" or "Obama". And "an inside job" with "faked" or "born in Kenya". In the face of all evidence, conspiracy theorists will still stick to their guns. It's the nature of the game. And that's because they're paranoid, stupid, bored, prejudiced, mentally ill or stupid. Or a combination of the six.

I'm not saying that conspiracies don't exist. There may well be some conspiracy waiting to be uncovered. I'm just saying that I have yet to see a conspiracy theory that isn't either painfully stupid (see NWO) or hasn't been debunked by smart, rational people (see JFK, moon landing, 9/11).

[As a little coda to this post, if you're interested in conspiracy theories, don't buy Jesse Ventura books. Listen to the other side. The conspiracy theories episode of Penn & Teller: Bullshit is a good place to start (interesting, funny, and they debunk the "JFK was pulled backwards" myth). And if you still feel that facts aren't for you, then you can go back to your fairytales.]

Yes I do believe in "some" Conspiracy Theories. I also will say don't take Alex Jones to the heart. Do the research yourself with the facts that are out there and you will be presently surprised. And if you think there is no New World Order.... You're fucking kidding yourself. The Bush's even said it in their speech.
