Detox. The legend. Has Dre really fell off?

The Chosen One of WZ

Even TNA cant ruin ECW for me
As everyone knows Dr. Dre has been working on the follow up to his classic '2001' album with a new project 'Detox'. The project has been worked on since 2003 and everybody and their momma has been linked as a guest to the project. Including: 50 Cent, Eminem, D12, The Game, Snoop Dogg, Ice Cube, Lloyd Banks, Devin the Dude, Jay-Z, Busta Rhymes, RZA, Nas, Lil Wayne, T.I., Slim da Mobster, Kendrick Lamar, Jay Rock, Kokane J. Cole, Lady Gaga, Common, R. Kelly, Akon and La Roux among others. The album has suffered its share of leaks including a reference track; "Topless" which features Nas and Eminem or T.I. By now only two tracks have been confirmed; the two single "I Need a Doctor" and "Kush". Alex da Kid, Mr. Porter, J. R. Rotem, Scott Stortch, Nottz and DJ Khalil have been linked as guest producers. DJ Quik has said Dr. Dre recorded over 400 songs for the album. The albums release date as of now is 4/1/11 but who knows if thats going to happen.

Of the four tracks i've heard ("I need a Doctor", "Kush", "Topless" and "Under Pressure") I found Under Pressure and I Need a Doctor decent and Kush and Topless above average. Overal im looking forward to this finnally getting released. Will it be better then 2001? Probably not but it will be good enough to spend 15 bucks to cop it.

My question is what do you expect from this album? And more general discussion of this project.

Detox will never comes out and even if it did who even really cares about it? dr. dre is damn near 50 you really wanna hear a 46 year old rap?

I think it will definitely come out. Dre has been working on it for years, but not constantly. He has produced fucking loads of stuff over the last 10 years or so and he hasn't become an Axl Rose-esque perfectionist, he just has been doing other stuff with no financial concerns or arrogance making him desperate to release.

It will simply be released when Dre is ready, and he is that much of a legend we will all patiently wait until the Doc decides the time is right. I have only hard "Kush", I haven't yet got round to listening to "I Need A Doctor" so I can't comment on that one. "Kush" did disappoint me slightly. It was a decent enough tune and Dre and Snoop were good as ever but I didnt like hearing Akon on a Dre track, he just made the tune sound like every other rap song out there right now, as Akon is on fucking EVERYTHING!

Dre shouldn't need to use Akon, he needs to stick with those gangsta beats of "Still DRE" and "The Next Episode" and the fans will still buy Detox in their millions.

I am really looking forward to this album getting released finally, I hope it lives up to the hype.

I haven't heard any of the songs off it yet, But I'm fucking pumped for this album. Dr Dre might be getting on in his years but he is still way fucking better then half the people who call themselves rappers now a days. I have been waiting for this for years, The only thing I can find a problem is

Dre shouldn't need to use Akon, he needs to stick with those gangsta beats of "Still DRE" and "The Next Episode" and the fans will still buy Detox in their millions
... I can't stand akon but I understand why he is doing a song with him. Dre hasn't released an album in years, all but his die hard fans will give two shits about this album. Having people like Akon, Lady Gaga *groans* Lil Wayne ect... Is going to help him reach out to new people just like Eminem did with Rihanna.

I do understand why Dre is working with Akon, everything that guy touches turns to gold right now...he is everywhere. As you said, it will help to create a new fanbase as Em has done with his recent album and its guest stars. I just hope we still get some of the classic Dre beats, perfect for cruising with the speakers turned up and the windows down.

I would hate for Dre to totally betray his gangsta roots in this new album, but I do not think he will. I think the fans will be satisfied

Kush is one of my fave songs goin round at the moment. I was like 6 in 2001 so this will be my first Dre album while being a fan I'm sure he'll have to change a bit because rap's changed heaps since his last album. looking forward to hearing it.

I owned the original Chronic album, Chronic 2001 was one of the biggest rap albums of all time and I owned it too. I even owned his slept on album Aftermath which wasn't as bad as people made it out to be. I will admit though, there has been so much talk about this album, so much hype, and it's taken so long, I almost don't care anymore. I don't think there is any way it could live up to a decade of anticipation. It would have to be the most monumental album of all time or something at this point to be worth 10 years of waiting. I've only heard the song "Kush" and while I do like it, I am fucking tired of hearing everyone talk about "Kush Weed" ok. I don't care about it, there are tons of other types of weed that are better, what is the big fucking deal about "Kush"? I don't get it. I've smoked it, it's good but it's not the best, and it's highly overrated at this point. If this is the best track on the album than it will be an abysmal let down. I am of course going to buy it, so all that shit about not caring is kind of bullshit, but you get what I mean. I just hope this lives up to the expectations. After this much time it better be a solid 20 tracks with at least 15 of them being the shit.

I am in love with "I Need a Doctor." The song by itself is in my opinion fantastic, but when watching the music video for it the song just gets taken to a new level. It has flashbacks to the days when Dre was with NWA, and shots of him and Tupac, and Snoop. It's a very well put together video. As for the music Eminem is my favorite rapper, and I love the style of rap that this song has. Just nonstop lyrics being thrown out. I hate slow, and soft songs. The ending where Dre is at Eazy-Es grave is pretty sad when you know how close they were. I'm not a rap fan by any means, and there are very few rappers that I respect, and enjoy listening to, and Dre is one of them. I fully expect this album to exceed expectations, and blow me away.

Also has anyone seen how fucking jacked Dre is? The guy is an absolute animal now.

I'm really hoping this album will be good. I have been waiting for Detox for a long time. I can seriously remember Dre talking about this album during a song on The Game's Documentary album.

I don't pay too much attention to the hip hop world now a days(mainly because the bulk of mainstream hip hop sucks ass, and I refuse to buy into Lil Wayne as the best rapper alive) and Dre's last album is the only thing that has managed to boost my excitement level.

So far, I love the "I Need A Doctor" song. Dre's verse is alright, Eminem puts a nice touch on the song, and Skylar Grey sounds amazing on the chorus. This isn't my favorite Dre/Eminem collaboration, because "Guilty Conscience" will always be my first choice, but I still enjoy this song.

I still listen to Dre 2001 when ever I get a chance, and I've been dying to hear a new Dre album for years. My expectations are high for this album, and I really hope this one won't disappoint.

I highly doudt that this will won't be worth the wait, as Dr. Dre knows how to do 2 things outstandingly well: Make Outstanding beats and an eye for talent. But people there is some things you guys have to remember about the progression of this album:

#1: Dr.dre has spent most of the last decade promoting talent and helping Young performers get into the biz, and expanding his label's roster by signing new talent, and helping eminem produce the beats to most of his songs since Dre released the chronic 2001, as well as 50 cents stuff among others as well.

#2: Dr. Dre is under alot of pressure to make the detox as influncial/impactful and as good, if not better than as his last two solo albums. So he is probably looking for perfection in his tracks, so it takes even longer to release and estabilish which songs he will use, as well as re writing verses for those songs as well modifying the entire album as a whole.

But whatever the Detox ends up as we can be assured one thing: it'll be better than most of the main stream crap we're forced to hear, and will have some kick ass beats for you to chill to. And that whoever has the most albums purchased so far at the time can kiss that spot good bye, as I can see this album breaking records for albums sold, and is easly gonna be Platunim. Also I think we will see Dr.dre prove once and fore all why he's a legend as his rhyming has gotten better since the chronic 2001. When this album finally comes out I'll be in line to by my copy of what is sure to shake the land scape of rap/hip hop for a while.
