Seriously, this is easily one of the best Bands that I've ever heard, and their not even a real band. Dethklok stars in the very funny Adult Swim animated TV show Metalocalypse. There are 5 members in the fictional band, but yet in reality, everything is done by 2 people. Brendon Small (one of the main writers for the show, and a comedian by trade) who does all the vocals, guitar work and bass work for the songs, and Gene Hoglan (who drummed for the legendary death metal band Death on their highly influential Symbolic and Individual Thought Patterns albums) who does the drumming. The songs relesed on the bands first "offical album" were merely recreations of some of the mini songs done for the show. Given the fact that only 2 people did the work of 5 band members to create this album, these songs sound incredible.

Firstly, Ech, you are furthermore "the man" for creating this, and bringing my favorite band into the lime light. Deathklok is fuckin sick, and my absolute favorite CD to workout to.

"the lost Vikings" is an amazing song, in that it truly tells a story. I find new parts and facets to the tale everytime I listen to it. Murmadier also has awesome storytelling, sick chops, and an almost melodic hook. Face fisted has a great feel to lyrics, and is also highly intense, hard hittng music. Passion, intensity, and storytelling, along with superb chops, make Deathkolk a fuckin awesome hardcore metal band. Highly recomennded.

I'm not a fan at all. I really, really don't know why people praise this band so much. I've given The Dethalbum about 5 or 6 listens now, and with each one, I got bored just as fast as the last. Maybe because I haven't really watched much of 'Metalocalypse', I just don't 'get' this band. There's hundreds among hundreds of bands out there who play Heavy/Melodic/Death Metal out there, a hell of a lot of them blowing this band away in terms of musicianship, vocal delivery, originality, and can manage to sustain a somewhat constant flow throughout an album without sounding bland nor generic.

Gene Hoglan is one of my all time favourite drummers, but nothing at all is impressive on this album. His late 80's/early 90's work with bands like Death and Dark Angel is some of the most intense and influential playing I've ever heard.

They're mediocre at best. I''m really not a fan of the Slipknot Nu-Metal influence combined with the later Soilwork-era of boring, unoriginal melodic guitarwork. Maybe if this had a litte more variation aside from the typical chug riffs, adequate drumming, shouted verses, clean choruses followed by lame reverb delay/psuedo-solo. Repeat.

If you want an awesome Thrash band, who perfectly combine the best elements Death Metal offers, along with Marty Friedman-influenced guitar solo work, I'd recommend you check out Dispiritism by Altered Aeon.

So what? What does the genre of music have to do with it? Fact is, the music was played by two people, at different times. Why should that impress me? I could go write something similar to Dethklok's music on my own, and record it all on my own. Would people listen to my music just because I'm a one man band?

But I made this tribute for the fans that DO enjoy the music that Dethklok makes to come here and discuss the band. I don't 'hate' Dethklok at all. Not once did I say that. I stated that I'm not a fan of their music, and gave my opinions why. It's not like I came in here slating people for enjoying this band.
