At least it's different. It's a match to look forward to. Even thought Jay Lethal is still doing that gimmick a year on. It's not like he's even like The Hurrican. Lethal is in TNA'S top 10. He's one of the companys biggest stars. Yet he's still doing that fucking gimmick. It was worthy at first. But now it needs to end. I'm sure Lethal has gained a bit of personality from the gimmick, and I hope he can use it without it.
I think more of what you have to look at, is sometimes once a person takes on a gimmick, its actually the gimmick that takes on them. I think a prime example of this, would be Dustin Rhodes. I swear, the guy had enough talent as himself to be marketed.. they just never tried hard enough. So Goldust was born, and bam.. the gimmick took him over. Now, he'll never ever be capable of leaving it.
Jay Lethal before the Savage gimmick was more or less a jobber, not really doing anything, barely even jobbing. Now, he's a Champion, and a top talent even. I agree with you that I think he's had the gimmick long enough that people will (hopefully) realize hes the one with the actual talent carrying the gimmick, not the other way around.
However, unfortunately, we'll only tell upon him dropping the gimmick. And I ask you this. If he drops it, then the fans start to no longer care, does he dare go back to it? The gimmick itself is running its course, since hes getting his "Elizabeth" so its only a matter of time before she either starts coming with him to ringside, or she gets involved in an injury angle that turns Lethal more "lethal."
