Daylight Savings Time

We all know about it, some are annoyed about it, the time change has come once again. Daylight Saving Time ends for 2014 in the US as of November 2nd. Don't forget to change your clocks. :banghead: I personally am part of the group that is annoyed by it and find it to be completely pointless. Why do we even need Daylight Saving Time? Why go through all the trouble of changing clocks twice a year when it can just be done away with? We just end up changing them back again in the spring, further adding to the redundancy behind the whole process.

This is a map of the world. The regions in blue use Daylight Saving Time. The orange regions no longer use it, and the red regions never did. It would be one thing if the entire world practiced the use of Daylight Saving Time, but the truth is that the majority of the world does not participate in it. Even in the regions of the world that do participate, it is a smaller portion of the population who actually can make an argument for "needing" it. I have been told in the past that it is for the sake of the farmers. Ok, great. Not all of us are farmers though. Why can't they just wake up earlier/later (depending on time of year) like the farmers in countries/states who do not participate do? I think it should be done away with worldwide.

Then you have the confusion that it brings when a business in a region that does participate (such as Fort Worth, Texas) is doing business with another located in a region that does not (such as Phoenix, Arizona). Texas is in Central Time all year long. Phoenix, due to Daylight Savings Time, spends half the year in Mountain Time (1 hour behind Central Time) and the other half of the year in Pacific Time (2 hours behind Central Time). Either everyone should use it, or no one should. It would be easiest if the rest of the regions still using Daylight Savings Time stopped doing so and saving us the frustration it brings twice a year. On a positive note, technology has been evolving a lot in recent years and many of us now have clocks/computers/phones that will update daylight savings time settings on their own.... Growing up I loathed the biannual time changing and I still believe it should be done away with for good.

How do you feel about Daylight Saving Time? Do you like it, dislike it, or are you neutral? Why?

Should it be removed completely or should more countries/states participate? Why or why not?

Any thoughts on Daylight Savings Time within our forum rules are welcome.

Discuss! :)

Oh how i wished we had day light savings here in Queensland Australia. There are two reasons why I believe the entire country at least should have them. First off, due to two states and a territory not having them we end up with five time zones for half a year. It really does not make sense.

Why I feel we need day light savings on a personal level though is quite simple. The sun first rise at like 4am during spring/summer. If my state for example had daylight savings like NSW/Victoria instead the sun would be rising at 5am and would be setting past 8pm. We would get more out of the sunlight.

I have yet to hear a reasonable argument as to why my stupid state shouldn't have dls. In the old days they complained about curtains fading and farm schedules being messed up. People cannot understand the concept of starting your day an hour earlier so you get an hour extra of sunlight at the end of the day.

People bloody complain about the sunlight at 4am waking them up and wasting time in the morning yet refuse to acknowledge DLS when it will solves their bloody issues. Well that's my two cents of someone who hates 4am sun rises, sure in DLS nothing would change except my day would get started an hour earlier.

It's a minor inconvenience for the first day or two, but after a week or so, it's not a big problem for me. Changing the clocks to go forward one hour annoys me a little bit, because I loose that one hour of sleep. On the flip side of that, moving the clocks back one hour helps with the extra hour of sleep. All in all, it takes some time to adjust to the changes, but after a while, everything falls into place with the normal routine, and I barely notice the changes.
