Cyborg Tests Positive For Steroids, Banned For 1 Year

As I mentioned in the MMA GSD thread, I am not surprised that she was on steroids, but I am surprised she allowed herself to get caught. There's no way she did anything different her last fight than from all the others. I guess the testing just got better.

Anyways, when she beat Gina Carano... the main reason I was so upset about it, besides seeing my undying love lose, was that I knew Cyborg had an unfair advantage and that she got that advantage by CHEATING. And let's face facts here... it's not that Cyborg is some skilled Mixed Martial Artist; she has won every fight she has had because of her size and strength alone. That is a 100% fact.

So, yeah... she seems like a sweet woman and everything, but fuck her. I'm glad she got caught. Hopefully now she'll cut that shit out of her life and we can see her in the octagon as her natural self.

I'm 100 percent with JMT here, I've never been a fan of Cyborg simply because I knew there was something hokey going on with here, a woman does not look like that creature by working out alot. I think she's obviously an idiot for doing that period but the fact that she allowed herself to get caught especially while holding the title is just pure stupidity. She wins her fights with that unfair advantage and it's bullshit, so I am very happy this she devil got caught and shell be stripped of her title.

Complete bullshit. Cyborg is a skilled martial artist who has acquired the knowledge and talent of actually utilizing her physical shape(whether it was natural or not) and creating her martial arts arsonal which is evident from simply watching her fights. Cyborg has very solid technique in all departments, saying otherwise is ridiculous.

This is like saying Lesnar is not a skilled martial artist because he uses speed, strength and size as an advantage over his opponents when it his intelligence and skill that allows for the fullest realization of his physicality. I know you're very fond of Nick Diaz yet you cannot see his case is much the same Zyborg's, excluding the drugs.

Have you watched her fights? All she does is bull rushes in and throw bombs, and it's because of her punching power why she's able to dominate her opponents.

Watch her fight with Marloes Coenen specifically. Coenen was giving Cyborg everything she could handle on the feet, but eventually Cyborg's strength was just too much and it wore Coenen down. If you take away Cyborg's strength in that fight, she loses, bottom line.

And you cannot compare Cyborg to Brock Lesnar. One is a Heavyweight male fighter, and the other is a 145 female fighter. It's perfectly fine for someone Lesnar's size to fight in a weight class between 205-265 pounds, but 145 female fighters should not look like Cyborg. And the fact of the matter is, you take away Cyborg's muscles (which is now PROVEN she got with ILLEGAL substances), then you have a mediocre female fighter who gets her fucking ass kicked against Gina Carano and Marlos Coenen.

A skilled martial artist? I posted up a few months ago on this very female. It was a sort of the spur of the moment post. But since then I've watched her she is really quite sloppy. She has a hell of a chin, but if any woman could land the right punch she could knock her out. Why is this? Because she has a very sloppy cover when she gets tired.

People for years have been saying to test her. Fuck, it's sad that she got this far the way she was. Because if you look back at her, she hasn't got any bigger muscle wise since the end of 2008. She might of got more cut, but she's been around the same look for years.

How do you count someone who has been using steroids as a good thing, as for their shape. With her chin, and a good ground trainer she could be honestly an amazing fighter. Well fuck she was, but how does a natural 145 compare to a roid user 145? They can't, it's sad. How many of the fights that went 2 and 3 rounds could of been a different outcome if she didn't get a boost from roids?

She needs to take this year, and get off the junk. Then take what's left and keep training. She can still fight, and I would like to see her get a better game all around. But if she goes back to her old ways, then fuck it. Ban her for life, because it just takes the fun out of the sport.

Man, I like Cyborg, I honestly do, but when I saw her coming out for the Yamanaki fight I told my buddy that I wouldn't be surprised at all if she got nailed for juicing, and I was right. This effectively taints everything she has done for WMMA and should bring about big questions about her reign as champion. Not that any fights will be overturned or anything, but you have to wonder if she was on steroids for the Coenen and Carano fights. Honestly, as being a "fan" of hers once upon a time this kind of ruins her for me and I will no longer support her, or at least she has to win me over again. Hopefully in a years time she will return to the sport, steroid free, and fix her now fucked up reputation.

A day after the California State Athletic Commission announced that she failed a steroid test at her most recent fight, Cris Cyborg released a statement in which she blamed the positive test on a dietary supplement.

Cyborg said through her web site that she does not use performance-enhancing drugs and that the only thing she did wrong was fail to properly inspect the ingredients in the supplement she took, which she did not identify by name.

"While I was preparing myself for my last fight I was having a difficult time cutting weight and used a dietary supplement that I was assured was safe and not prohibited from use in sports competition," Cyborg said. "It was never my intention to obtain an unfair advantage over Hiroko, mislead StrikeForce, the Commission or my fans. I train harder than any fighter in MMA and do not need drugs to win in the cage, and I have proven this time and time again! My only mistake is not verifying the diet aid with my doctor beforehand, and understanding that it was not approved for use in the ring. Unfortunately in the end I suffer the consequences and must accept the responsibility for my actions."

Cyborg is far from the first athlete to blame a positive drug test on a supplement, and she surely won't be the last. It's probably the most common reason given for positive tests.

But the bottom line is that athletes have to know what they're taking or suffer the consequences, and Cyborg said she knows that.

"I would like to sincerely apologize to StrikeForce, the Zuffa organization, Hiroko Yamanaka and my fans for my failed drug test," she said. "I am ultimately responsible for everything I put in my body, and at the end of the day, there is no excuse for having a prohibited substance in my system."

I love it when the guilty party looks to try and avoid coming out and actually taking responsibility when they as professionals should know EXACTLY what is going into their bodies. I do not believe her, I believe the suspension and stripping of her Championship will show her the error of her ways.

It looks like no one's surprised at this. Like most of you, I'm not surprised at all. I saw her bulging during her fight with Carano. At that point in time, I came to one of two conclusions: either she's a man or the juice has made her clit bigger than most mens' junks.

No one brought this up, but I read on Sherdog the other day that the future of the 145 women's division is in question, following this incident. I know that there is a lack of good fighters to take over for the division in Cyborg's absence, but I also don't think it is right to get rid of an entire division because the champion got caught cheating. Obviously, they can't put a whole lot of focus on it, but at the same time, with females like Sarah Kaufman, Marloes Coenen, and Gina Carano still around they can make it work. Granted Carano would actually have to fight again like Strikeforce has claimed she will do and they would have to resign Coenen, but the entire division shouldn't be penalized because of one person. SF has done a good job of trying to get Women's MMA up and going.
